  1. Well, I voted paper because that's what I always do and I still think it's more appropriate, even in today's electronic culture. However, if you do an e-vote it may be easier for the invitees to respond. So, I have no idea what to tell you, really!
  2. Well, congratulations! I hope you guys did something fun to celebrate!
  3. Hang in there, Laura. I planted onions on Saturday and we've been harvesting our peas for a while now. One thing I love about yardwork and gardening is that the effects are longer lasting. In the house, I can clean up the great room and in 5 minutes it can look like a tornado hit it! Outside I can prune and weed a flower bed and enjoy the results for a week.
  4. Good Morning, Girlies! Here's hoping today is a better day than yesterday! ** school **dd has her tumbling recital this afternoon. I'm supposed to bring cookies. Guess I'll be getting them at the supermarket, because I can't see myself baking anything today. That's about all that's on the docket for today. Hope you all have a good day! Praying for you this morning, Jean!
  5. Happy Birthday, Jen. I didn't know. Sorry you had to deal with airport delays and broken noses!
  6. Got everything done today, but I'm worn out. The kids were difficult to say the least. And I must say I was not a shining example of what a sweet, patient mother should be. Very hard day. But, two kids are in bed, in another half hour the rest will be in bed and I can rest!
  7. You come on out to California! We'll put you up! Spring has sprung, it should be close to 80 again today!
  8. Good morning Ladies! Jean, hope all goes well for you today. Prayed for you yesterday and will do so today. Today.... ** school ** laundry - our dryer went out on Friday, Saturday dh spent a fruitless afternoon trying to buy us a dryer (strangely enough, people in the N. valley don't buy many gas dryers so there aren't many to be had), so he went on-line, found one at Lowes in the S. valley and they delivered yesterday afternoon. Hooray for Lowes. ** mil coming over this morning ** cleaners coming this afternoon ** allergy shots ** bell choir this evening Have a good day, all!
  9. We've used materials from Classical Academic Press. I like their Bible Program, though it may be a little above where your kids are.
  10. Morning, Jean! Hope you're feeling better. "This is the day that The Lord has made! Let us rejoice and be glad in it!" ** church today. I'm doing Children's Church ** bake bread and cinnamon rolls. That's become a Sunday activity. I do like to bake bread, ** dd1 has her Kingdom Kids concert late afternoon Hope you all have a great day!
  11. Thermarest to sleep on, for sure! Good camp stove. Lantern. We generally just go overnight, so our food is minimal (hotdogs over the campfire, s'mores type of things) but one thing I always do for breakfast is pancakes. Get the Bisquick mix that you just add water to the bottle and shake, then pour on the griddle. My griddle is big enough to cover both burners, so I make my bacon at the same time as the pancakes and the bacon grease kind of fries up with the pancakes and it is....oh boy! Really good! Have fun!
  12. I'm feeling accomplished! Three garden beds prepped and one planted. The one planted is with onion seeds. I have had great success with green onions, so I plant lots! My other bed gets afternoon shade, so that will be for the peppers. Last year we fried them with the afternoon sun where we planted then. Now, I just have to go to the nursery to get them. The other bed needs more dirt and I need to decide what will be planted there.
  13. Well, we're babysitting three extra boys, this morning. But, it's going well. The dryer is on the fritz, and DH is stressed, but I think we're going to get a new one. This one is at least 30 years old and he bought it used for $75 15 years ago. I think we've gotten out money's worth out of it. It's just hard to stomach putting out the cash for a new dryer. Oh well, tax refund will help! So, my extra's mom should be here in about an hour and they'll be out of here, then I can get some real work done and DH can run to Lowe's to get a dryer and all will be right with the world.
  14. I have no advice for you, but I will say that toddlers refusing meat is not uncommon. Only one of my children ate meat as a toddler and I did nothing special with their diet to make up for that fact. They did eat a lot of yogurt and dairy products, though. They are all extremely healthy and active, so I think they were ok.
  15. Good for you! Although the one overarching concept is..... You do what works for you! For us, we do school when everyone else does school because we have a neighborhood full of kids, and it just doesn't work to have a schedule too much different than they have. My kids don't want to do math when everyone else is out riding bike.
  16. Well, it already started out pretty good. Dh let me sleep till 8:00 and I have a cup of coffee in my hand. Can't get much better than that ;) It's going to be a gorgeous day out. I will likely do some yard work, go grocery shopping, get Children's Church stuff ready, and fold laundry. I really need to get my raised beds ready. We may end up babysitting my friend's three boys. We're plan B. I'm really hoping her plan A works out. Have a great Saturday everyone!
  17. You can see my kids' ages in my siggy. We do Bible together using Classical Academic Press curriculum. We also did Greek Codecrackers together, same publisher. I've done history together with my two oldest. We even do spelling together. They are all in different levels of Spelling Workout, but we do it together. Really, the only curriculum that I wouldn't do together are math, grammar, Latin and reading.
  18. Hi Girls! Jean - that concoction sounds dreadful. I hope it works, for all that you are putting yourself through. Our rocket launch went well. Only two rockets burned up. I still have more work to do on developing a good, lightweight motor mount that holds the engine well. Now, I'm crashing in the bedroom watching The Good Wife on Amazon Prime and thinking maybe I should start dinner.
  19. Good Morning! We got a late start this morning, since we all slept late. Went to a play last night put on by a very large homeschool group and they were fantastic. They put on "Cheaper by the Dozen" and it was great. Of course, it was very long, which I was not expecting. My kids were very well behaved, although my three year old piped up from time to time, "Is it done yet? I want to go home!" Anyway, it was past 10:00 when we finally got in bed. ** School - doing the bare minimum ** co-op - we're launching the rockets. I am so tired of co-op! ** DS2 has guitar lessons ** DH coming home tonight from a second trip to Las Vegas in a week. I'm really hoping they don't pressure him to move there (his company headquarters is there) because that is one of the last places on earth I would want to move.
  20. We're beginning in second grade. That's when the subject was introduced in my dd's curriculum. We use flash cards, math aps, etc., a variety of different techniques to keep in interesting. Or as interesting as multiplication facts can be.
  21. I went with Dh a couple years ago on a business trip. There were a few places i wouldn't have a problem taking my kids, but the overall theme of Vegas is vice. Hence the motto, "what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas!" We stayed at the Hilton and the marquee on the hotel across the street said in enormous letters,"topl€$$, topl€$$, topl€$$." So, every time we walked out of the hotel there it was. And one evening we were having ice cream in the hotel icecream shop and kept seeing uh... "Ladies" walking down the way. Personally, it's not a place i would take my kids! But that's me!
  22. Morning Ladies! This Daylight Savings Time thing still has me in a tizzy. I cannot get up for the life of me. Jean, you just take it easy today! Nothing strenuous. We need to get you better! Today.... ** school ** kids have Awana ** fold laundry ** dust ** take care of a few monster weeds outside I think that's about it. Have a great day, gals!
  23. I wouldn't expect people to make the connection that since I am not carrying a package then my business will be brief. Most people are rather clueless about that, me included. Also, doesn't your post office have someone who just does "held mail" and packages and things like that?
