  1. Praying for your family, Jen! It's our 10:00 break, sun is out, fog burned off and the kids are outside with the neighbors who are on a Foggy Day Schedule from school. See, around here, the fog is so dense and dangerous schools don't want busses and parents with children out driving on the roads, so they call a Foggy Day Schedule and start school at 11:00, when hopefully most of the fog has burned off. Honestly, what with a long Christmas Vacation, all these Monday holidays and now Foggy Day Schedules, I wonder if kids are learning anything in school. My kids are horribly jealous.
  2. Morning Girlies! It's a foggy morning right now. Even though it's dangerous, it's beautiful! Very ghostly and still out. Today.... ** school ** get kids to do their Valentines. Our co-op is having a Valentine's party tomorrow. ** bake cookies for said party ** it's Thursday, so dd7 has Kingdom Kids ** make dinner for a friend of mine. They've received custody of a 5 year old girl in the foster care system they hope to adopt, and are rather overwhelmed. So, I'm just going to make a huge pot of italian sausage and pasta soup and give them half and make some focaccia bread and take it over to them. I think that's it. Gotta go get in the shower and get started with this day!
  3. I have a wonderful mother-in-law. I really do. Here's why I think she's a good one! 1) she's just genuinely a nice person. She's nice and kind to everyone. I don't think she has an enemy in the world. 2) she's interested in the lives of her daughters-in-laws (she has 4 sons, thus 4 daughters-in-laws, and one daughter) 3) she gives absolutely no unsolicited advice. 4) she's happy her sons have found good wives, so we were welcomed into the family 5) she's very helpful. She comes over on Mondays and folds my laundry. Actually, she really comes over to get out of the house. She doesn't drive and has trouble getting around, and it's good for her to come over (my fil brings her by for the morning when he does volunteer work) and see the grandkids and be around people, but she "earns her keep" by reading to the little girls while I do school with the big ones and she folds my laundry. I love my mother-in-law. She's awesome!
  4. I usually freeze cakes un-iced. Sometimes they don't thaw so well with icing on it.
  5. Wow, Melissa! That's awesome. Well, it's after lunch. We're actually having Fine Arts time. I've been really making an effort to do this and it's the 4th Wednesday in a row. The kids are painting their sculptures that they made when we studies Michaelangelo last week. And I read a bit of a bio in Mozart, so they are listening to Mozart as they paint. And I am feeling like the homeschool mom extraordinaire. Lol. For once.
  6. I don't know if they are out or in, though most times see women without. My hairdresser always talks me out of them because they are hard to keep up. You always have to trim them.
  7. I agree with this statement. A phonics program is good if it works for your child. I've taught 3 children to read and am working on the 4th with A Beka's phonics program. I like it, I know it, it is effective... My kids are good readers. I like the presentation, colorful curriculum.... A Beka is good for us!
  8. Morning girls, Kids are eating breakfast, just finished devotions with them. We're going through Proverbs. It's a good book for this bunch. Pounding into their heads every day about honesty and truthfulness. Something they have trouble with. So, today we have.... ** school ** more baking ** Awana for the kids I'm just really tired lately. I don't know what's going on, but I feel achy (mildly) and just tired, all the time. I think it's stress. How do you get rid of stress? How do you deal with stress? All the advice I read on line doesn't work for me.
  9. Well, dinner has been eaten. Dh is taking the kids to the basketball game, but I'm stAyng home with my youngest since she seems to have one of those rogue viruses that come, spike a fever for a couple hours and then go. I have to start another batch of bread. I was so mad I almost cussed. Well, I did, under my breath. See, I made the dough. It was on the second rise and I put it in the oven where it was a bit warmer. Then, I forgot about it as I started supper. Then I turned the oven on to 375 to preheat. The bell went off to let me know it was up to temperature. Then, about 10 minutes later I opened my oven door to put the chicken in and there was my dough. Ruined. Well, the top was perfectly cooked. It was yummy. The rest of it was wrecked.
  10. Third grade for both my boys. Yes, I will be starting my daughter next year when she hits third grade. We begin with Prima Latina. I sometimes wonder if 2nd grade would be a good place to start, but wih MP's progression, I wouldn't have a child begin the Form Series before 5th grade. My pretty bright 5th grader is in First Form and he's not struggling, but it is challenging for him. However, I have all three kids doing Greek Codecrackers from CAP and my second grader is just doing great. She's got the Greek Alphabet down quite well, and is starting to "get it".
  11. This. I stress about giving gifts. Sure, sometimes I'm shopping and I see something that I know person X will love and I get It for them, but more often than not, I hate shopping for gifts. And it's not that I don't care and it's not that I don't want to put in the effort. It's just hard for me. I don't particularly like gifts, and I have trouble buying them for other people.
  12. Good Morning, Ladies! Got my walking in this morning. I've been more diligent about that. Today.... ** school for the kids ** youngest dd's have a physical this afternoon. First one with our family doctor. They were seeing another dr. before the adoption was finalized because my dr. doesn't take state insurance. But now, we're all together at the same place. ** ds1 has basketball game tonight ** I'm going to try to get some baking done this afternoon ** dd has tumbling this afternoon Have a good day, my dears. Jean, hope you feel better and don't push yourself too hard.
  13. My dd sailed right through it. And she even got ear tubes put in at the same time. It did cure her snoring. She threw up a bit in recovery, but after that she was fine. The only day she was really "sick" was the day of the surgery. We did give her the Tylenol with Codeine that was prescribed for a couple of days, until it made her constipated. But she not once complained of pain. After the first day, it was all we could do to keep her down. They say no running for 2 weeks so they don't pop the clots. She watched a lot of tv and got totally addicted to Otter Pops.
  14. Yes, everything, every day. Unless I'm sick.
  15. I'm answering before I read any replies. I think of it as a boy's name, though it could be pretty as a girl's name.
  16. Well, I believe that whether you are a Christian or not is certainly not dependent on what sort of tv show you watch or books you read. However, I think the rub comes when as Christians, we are exhorted in Philippians 4:8 to think about things (which would probably include putting these things into your mind) that are truthful, pure, lovely, commendable and excellent. And so, as a Christian I should then place the books I read, tv shows and movies I watch, and music I listen to against this standard to see if it measures up. And then, if you are a Christian, and want to live your life according to Scripture, can you justify what you are watching, reading and listening to? I'm not going to be the judge of any of these shows and I admit that some of the shows I watch do not measure up to that standard. We need to judge for ourselves.
  17. Cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, green onions, green beans.... Those are my staple crops. We do experiment a little with other stuff, but those I count on year after year.
  18. Well, it's noon! Amy, Happy Birthday. Sorry I didn't get that in earlier. And in honor of the Hive, I am sending you telepathically, a cream filled chocolate cupcake delivered by a handsome snowboarder in a kilt. I hope you like chocolate. And I hope you like cupcakes. And I hope you like handsome young snowboarders in kilts. (Geez, I've been watching too much Olympics). Anyhow, school is mostly done. Kids are watching their science video. Dd3 is screaming because she doesn't want to take a nap. And I have a huge mess in the kitchen to clean up!
  19. Morning gals! Sorry I didn't show up yesterday. I don't know why. Today is Monday. I hate Mondays. We have a lot of school to get done, we have to have the house picked up for the cleaners.... it's just a hard day to get through and there's pressure to have it all done and be out of the house by 3:30, So, today... ** school ** get DS to practice his guitar. He just started lessons, so this practicing thing is going to be new to him. ** pick up house ** allergy shots ** dinner at my parents' house
  20. We did for a year. From a content standpoint, it's great. I learned a lot. It just bored the kids to tears.
  21. I was wondering what that was all about. When they played that clip when they announced the team and that lady kept having to defend their choice..... I kept thinking, if she's that controversial, why are they taking her? Are there some politics or money involved? There's gotta be other skaters just as good. I'm just a conspiracy theorist, I know.
  22. I don't like it so much. It does some like a pet name. I like Chloe better.
  23. I thought Wagner's skating was very good, but that little Russian girl was truly amazing! My dd and I were just slack jawed at that last twirly thing she did. As far as Wagner's attitude.... at least pretend to be modest and humble. Good grief! I'm crushing on the snowboarders myself!
  24. Lazy Saturday afternoon. Got most of my work done. Now just folding laundry and watching speed skating.
  25. Hi Ladies, It's a relaxing Saturday here. Slept in a little. Had a nice cuppa joe and then made breakfast and took 4 kids with me to Walmart. Somehow it's less chaotic, even with only one less child. This afternoon: - clean up kitchen - work on Children,s Church curriculum -work on budget stuff - fold laundry -watch Olympics (which I may do while I'm folding laundry) Jean, hope you feel better. Glad you got a good night's sleep last night! Amy, good to see your post. Take care of yourself during this time of grieving. We're continuing to pray for your family.
