  1. Is there a difference between the combo book and the books that are seperate? If I have the combo book is WWE still needed?
  2. Does it matter what version you buy? We are currently on Ancients and would like to purchase this for additional reference.
  3. My DDs will be done with their math curriculum soon and I want to purchase some workbooks for them to use as we transition into the next level. I am expecting soon, so I would like to just use workbooks and not bother with all the extras (teachers guides, manipulatives, etc). We use MUS as our program, I have a prek/kindie and 1st/2nd grader. I was looking at the Singapore math books but was wondering if I can use them without any of the extras. Are there any other simple and easy for teaching workbooks out there? I know I can print things out but I simply won't have time for that.
  4. For those of you that use MFW. I have a prek/kindie and 1st. I have a hard time purchasing or figuring out how to purchase and what to purchase because we use SSRW for our early language arts. This covers learning to read, writing and some spelling. By the time they are done, or least my first one was done she was in simple chapter books. I expect my other daughter to be in a similar state. We do STOW together (color page and map page and look at atlas and other history books I've purchased), science together (currently using magic school bus series and library books with lots of hands on activities and worksheets I've found to engage them both), we do bible verse memorization together at meals to review throughout the day, in the evenings we do devotional which is reading from a childrens bible (DH reads we listen) together and then discuss what was read, oldest has reading time whenever she wants but is required to read out loud to us before bed (10-20), we do read aloud together 30-40 minutes a day, MUS in their respective areas and my oldest does AAS2, FFL1 (kindie sits in on this), WWE1 and a fun word ladder type page. So when I look at the MFW site most of the things they offer for 1st and 2nd seem bellow level for my girls or things they've already done. This is why I was looking for suggestions on how to incorporate some CM aspects to what we already do.
  5. Yes this is how I see her approach. I particularly like the virtue aspect of her approach. I personally would like to nurture that area as much as the academics and skill that classical focuses on. We hs for many reasons and one is to give our children a well rounded education that fits our goals for our children amd their needs and desires (isn't that the point). I like both styles for their own merit in my eyes and wondered if anyone had a schedule so to speak that incorporates both.
  6. And this is my predicament exactly. I don't want to buy an entire curriculum to find I totally disagree with it. I am considering supplementing in the subjects I feel need it and add a children's devotional of some type.
  7. Thank you for the time line. :hurray: I have been looking for something like that. I am limited with the library in our town so I have not been able to get the suggested readings. I have considered using Mystery of History with it just to read the biblical areas missed in SOTW but I see mixed reviews on it. :confused1:
  8. Thank you, it is a little above mine now but I will bookmark for later. :001_smile:
  9. I have seen posts on this but now I cannot find them. Does anyone do a blend of these? Would you care to share your schedule and how you go about doing it? I love how it's working out for us but I really love some of CMs suggestions, particularly the journaling and nature studies. I have a prek and 1st grader now and we do most subjects together except LA and Math. Can anyone chime in or post a link to another post. Thank you Meni
  10. We currently follow TWTM. I have a kindie and 1st grader. We use the following; 1st - MUS, FLL, WWE, AAS, SOTW and magic school series and library for science Kindie- MUS, SSRW, SOTW and magic school bus series and library for science Academically I couldn't be happier but although we participate in AWANAS for bible studies I feel we need to incorporate more into our curriculum. Has anyone added more Christian aspects to their classical approach, if so can you share how? Are there any classically Christian curriculums (not tapestry of grace it doesn't seem like it would fit us) that I could do with multiple levels? I've heard amd looked at Heart of Dakota but I wonder if its not meaty enougj considering what we currently cover.
  11. I purchased the paperback and student activity book used a year or so ago. Now that I am ready to use it I have found there is no table of contents in the activity pages portion. The book was placed in a 3 ring binder. Would any know where I can find these online? If that is even possible. Will I simply have to cave and by a new book? Thank you for the advice; as for getting the sample TOC of off the website it only has a few pages. My question now is; are the corresponding supplemental book suggestions in the TOC or are they in the book or AG? I've looked through both of the items I own and I cannot find them either. Thanks for the help in advance.
  12. If you'd like a can get a pic of the readers covers since they tell what rule is being taught at which level. There are 17 readers but 32 lessons I believe.
  13. I can't say anything about what to buy but I've used SSRW with my daughter and its a complete phonics program. I have the kinder/level 1 combo and to my understanding level 1 would be for first grade level. We've completed the program though I haven't assessed her I believe she's above first grade in reading ability and comprehension. The program teaches all the phonogram rules I believe beginning with letter sounds and all the vowel sounds, then continuing with blends and into clusters which is what they called them but they are the diphtongs and such. As far as the scope you'd just have to look at the books. Hope that helps.
