  1. Well.... it's been a few years, but I have been to a few birthday parties there and although it's not my favorite place in the world, I don't think it's that a awful. Granted, we only stay a couple of hours, but.... in our town the ER is much worse.
  2. Hello! It'll a little after 11:00am PST. Got quite a bit of school done, but the best part of the day is the rain! The hills were so brown, the poor cattle had nothing to eat, no rain for spring wildflowers, but now, looks like we'll have some grass and wildflowers. It's not drought breaker, and the politics around here are ugly because of the water problems, esp. with the environmentalists. They cause the most problems! But, at least the grasses and trees are getting a drink right now and there is some snow in the mountains. School is on it's way to getting done, the kids are reasonably cooperative today. Gotta think of something for lunch! Have a good rest of your day everyone!
  3. Good morning my cyber-friends! Hope you are all bright-eyed and bushy tailed this morning. I got up this morning excited (or telling myself I was excited) for my morning constitutional, walked out the door and it was raining. Usually I can hear the rain in the rain gutters before I get out of bed, but apparently not this time. So, I did some stretching and resistance band exercises and called it good. So, here I am with my coffee, Bible and devotional in a quiet house. It's a good thing. On the docket for the day.... ** school ** finish plans for Rocketry class at co-op ** babysit friend's boys this afternoon, while she and her dh go meet/bring home their new fost-adopt daughter. They've very excited. I saw a picture and she's got a sweet smile, both on her lips and in her eyes, so I think it's going to work out. Praying about the meeting this morning. And I bought her a "Fancy Nancy" book, as this is their only girl. ** dd7 has Kingdom Kids this afternoon ** dinner at my parents' house this evening Have a good day, ladies!
  4. We are reading "The Mysterious Benedict Society" from a recommendation here, and we are loving it. Great book!
  5. I don't like outdoor play, but then again.... I don't play with my kids. They play with each other and the neighbors outside. If my child is too young to be in the front by herself, then she can play in our fenced in back yard. I don't mind being outside. I like yardwork, I like hiking. Maybe it's not outdoors that I don't like, maybe I just don't like playing with my kids.
  6. Morning Ladies, I'm in my usual spot to begin my day - kitchen table with my coffee, Bible and devotional. Gotta check in with you gals first, though! ** school today. I've been trying to do art on Wednesdays, so here we go. It's Wednesday. ** work more on co-op plans ** kids have Awana I'm just worn out emotionally. Nothing major or traumatic, but... my oldest had an issue with a neighbor kid, which we worked out, but it was difficult. My second is starting guitar lessons and he's very anxious, and when he's anxious we all pay for it. My baby, I love her to death, but she shadows me all day. I know this is typical, I know all about that, but I am an introvert and she is a bright shining extrovert who loves Mommy and it is very hard for me to keep up a running stream of conversation all day, and then I feel guilty because.... it is hard and I should be loving these times because tomorrow I'm going to wake up and it'll be her wedding day and I'll never see her again. And sometimes I just wish she'd go paint, or play with her dolls or something. Well, hope you all have a great day. Jean, how are you feeling? Amy, you're in my prayers!
  7. Well, I like A Beka's kindergarten program. That's really the only thing of theirs I buy complete. I tend to get away from A Beka as the kids get older but I love their kinder stuff. Although it's pretty Christian. If she's interested, A Beka always has their curriculum "fairs" in the spring in larger cities. They are very low-pressure and you can finger through all the curriculum.
  8. No! I am a creationist (haven't decided really about the young earth/old earth thing), but I take offense at Ken Ham's dogmatism. And like has been said before, it's not going to change anyone's mind. Do debates like this change people's minds? Or maybe that's not the point of the debate.
  9. Morning Girlies! Well, my peaceful quiet time has been invaded by my 3 year old, but I gave her some "Yucky" Charms and she's pretty happy. On the docket for the day... ** devotions and breakfast ** school ** work on plans for rocketry class for co-op ** the never ending pile of dirty laundry ** dd7 has tumbling class ** dd10 has basketball game tonight Have a great day all!
  10. Amy, I am so sorry! Will continue to keep your family in my prayers! Jean - hope this one does the trick! Well, it's the end of the day. I keep hoping the kitchen fairy would sweep in and do the dishes and the floor, but she never does. Guess I'll have to do it myself. Little girls will have baths and go to bed in a few minutes.
  11. We love the YWAM series. We do regulate Bible curriculum M-Th and then Fridays, after verse quiz I read a chapter from a missionary book. It does take us a while to get through the books, but it's a good system. Right now we're reading about Adoniram Judson. Wow! That is quite a story!
  12. Been through it. My church has been through a couple of splits - one due to leaving one denomination and joining another (we weren't there for that) and the other, about 4 years ago now, due to our pastor's infidelity and all the fall-out with that. It was ugly. But we managed to get through that. I'm sorry. It's hard.
  13. Oh, well, I do have more than three children and I do love my house, but it wish it had more bedrooms. So, I guess I won't showing you my floor plans. We have an open floor plan, a nice sized kitchen, high ceilings. But, we need at least 1-2 more bedrooms and there is absolutely no way we can add on.
  14. Well, he doesn't love his job, but he is a mechanical engineer and he enjoys the challenge, it stimulates his mind, he likes his co-workers well enough, it is not monotonous. When I think of people loving their jobs I think of people who are just passionate about what they do and every day they wake up with joy and zeal. Dh isn't like that. But yeah, he really does like what he does. But he also likes being home and taking vacation.
  15. Morning Jean! Ladies! It is a beautiful day. We got rain in the night, the air is clear, the sky is blue. It is lovely outside! ** breakfast is well underway. Baked oatmeal for the kids, I had my almond meal/flaxseed "cereal" with almond milk previously. ** school will commence momentarily ** gotta clean the house for the cleaners ** fold some laundry ** test drive the new rocket I built for rocketry class Hope every one has a good day! Heels, hope you feel better soon! Jean, you too!
  16. I had a feeling it was over in the first play when Manning missed the snap and the Seahawks got the safety. Sad sad game!
  17. Hi Girls, Just checking in at the end of the day! Had church today, watched half of the Superbowl until it just became horrifying and then I started work on lesson plans for next week! Hugs, Amy. What a lovely picture of them. They are a very attractive couple! Hope you all had a good day!
  18. I liked the Doritoes time machine one. The others..... meh!
  19. Kids are amazing like that. My 5th grader is doing Spanish and Latin, my 4th grader is doing Latin and, including my second grader we are all learning Greek. So, that's three languages for my oldest at the same time. Granted, our Greek is "Greek Alphabet Codecrackers" by CAP, so it is a very very gentle introduction, still, they are all doing quite well. I would say we have a good handle on the most common of the Greek letters and are working on the idea of Greek phonics vs. English phonics. I never would have believed it had I not been a homeschooler, but young children can pick up on languages, and multiple languages at that very well. I taught for 2 years at a school in São Paulo, Brazil, (American missionary school, but we had a great deal of Brazilians of all ethnic backgrounds) and almost all the kids were bilingual. Some were tri-lingual and I had one girl who spoke English, Portuguese, and 2 dialects of Chinese.
  20. There are for sure cheaper than our grocery store Milk Cheese Refried beans Cans of Swanson chicken broth Romaine lettuce (I can get a 6 pack of Romaine at Costco for exactly the same price as a 3 pack at my cheapest grocery store) Butter I prefer to buy meat at Costco, because I feel like the quality is better.
  21. we don't have a great social life, but we are able to live comfortably where we are at. what is really keeping us here, though, is family. We have deep roots in this area, all our family is here, parents are growing older, etc. etc. Otherwise, with this drought and California politics, we'd be out of here so fast....
  22. Mine were soldered together before the ceremony. My engagement ring was a solitaire with diamonds on each side, the wedding band is small and narrow. Then, in our 10 anniversary I got a diamond anniversary band and the whole thing put together finally looks the way I like it. ;) though they didn't solder the anniversary band. The jewelry store said they didn't like to do that, for some reason.
