  1. Yay! :hurray: Thanks for the update. I had prayed for the little guy, and I'm so glad he wasn't trapped and euthanized. Love the name Rex, by the way.

    Corrected, thanks! :blushing:
  3. I agree, and I feel for you, OP. I disliked group projects in school, too. How about poesy? I'm a Firefly fan, so "theVerse" also came to mind. :)
  4. Has anyone used Bric Tek building bricks? How does the quality compare to Lego? Do they work well with Lego bricks? Their pack of 800 bricks is tempting, but I don't want to spend the money if they're poor quality. Thanks!
  5. If you don't need the coupon immediately, you can buy one on eBay.
  6. I much prefer to use one of these spongy bath cushions in the big tub. There's no filling or dumping, you can get the water temperature just right, and it leaves both hands free. I also liked being able to use our hand-held shower head during baths. When you're finished, you just squeeze out the water and prop it up to dry. Easy peasy.
  7. Thanks for your clarification! I've never heard the term YLC before. I should have looked it up, so that's on me. Interesting. I don't believe I'd call myself a YLC, since I think dinosaurs likely lived millions of years ago. However, I do believe all life is specially created and not from common descent.
  8. Thank you, mytwomonkeys. I should have been more clear. I am an OEC, and I also believe in a literal Adam and Eve. I think God certainly could have and perhaps did create everything in six literal days, but if He did, it appears that He created it looking very old. I think it's more likely that it actually is really old, but it's not that significant of an issue for me. It's enough for me to know: "Whatsoever the LORD pleased, that did he in heaven, and in earth, in the seas, and all deep places." Psalm 135:6 "And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?" Daniel 4:35
  9. Garga, :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: . I think you're cool.
  10. I'm an old-earth creationist and I believe there was a real Noah. Not all old-earth creationists are also evolutionists. I confidently believe Paul wasn't wrong about anything. I'll be interested to read other replies.
  11. What a great question. I'm sorry I don't have more time, but my short answer is this: Christians are not under the law given to the nation of Israel. They are not bound to obey any Old Testament commandments except those specifically repeated in the New Testament. Why? Because: "...Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth." Romans 10:4 Here is a succinct article on the topic: http://www.gotquestions.org/Christian-law.html
  12. For the First Time (it's by The Script but I like the Boyce Avenue remake) ETA: Oops! That was one of the two you already thought of! I guess I wasn't much help, but I agree, the song is perfect. :blushing:
  13. I apologize if I misread your intention. Sometimes people do ask rather disingenuous questions in an attempt to correct those with whom they disagree. I'm glad to learn that's not the case here, and I'm sorry I offended you.
  14. I don't think you're likely to find that, but I assume that's your point. Just be careful not to equate creationism with a belief in a young earth. There are many old-earth creationists: oldearth.org There are also atheists and agnostics who criticize Darwinian evolution and defend the theory of intelligent design, without the influence of conversion: http://www.uncommondescent.com/intelligent-design/are-these-atheists-and-agnostics-really-covert-creationists/ Other non-Christian proponents of intelligent design include Muzaffar Iqbal, a Muslim, and David Klinghoffer, an Orthodox Jew.
  15. David Berlinksi comes to mind, although he's a critic of evolution rather than a creationist. He's a secular Jew and agnostic. He wrote The Devil's Delusion: Atheism and Its Scientific Pretensions and numerous essays on evolution. From Wikipedia: A critic of evolution, Berlinski is a Senior Fellow of the Discovery Institute's Center for Science and Culture, a Seattle-based think tank that is a hub of the intelligent design movement. Berlinski shares the movement's disbelief in the evidence for evolution, but does not openly avow intelligent design and describes his relationship with the idea as "warm but distant. It's the same attitude that I display in public toward my ex-wives." Berlinski is a scathing critic of evolution, yet, "Unlike his colleagues at the Discovery Institute,...[he] refuses to theorize about the origin of life." Honestly, I don't know that much about him, and I haven't read his book. I just really like his son Mischa's first novel, Fieldwork. It's brilliant.
  16. I don't know of any major pizza chains that don't use MSG or free glutamic acid. Pizza Hut's sauce contains "spices." Papa John's doesn't disclose their ingredients, but I've reacted to their pizza. I would bring a pizza you know your son can eat.
  17. :iagree: If you haven't talked much about this topic before, books can help get the discussion going. I've used this book from my library: My Body Is Private. If you scroll down on the Amazon page to "Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought..." you'll find many other similar books. For those who have very young children (3 or 4 years old), this book is great: Your Body Belongs to You. I personally don't allow sleepovers with anyone other than grandparents, but abuse can happen anywhere. It's crucial to talk about these things from a young age so children are knowledgeable and prepared.
  18. Thanks for the clarifications, Homeschool Mom. I personally wouldn't exclude children for every reason you mentioned, but I understand you have strong feelings about this. You must live in an area with an unusually large percentage of rude people (or maybe I live in a bubble, surrounded by generally pleasant people!). I agree with you about providing appropriate alternatives. If we're having doughnuts at church, I bring homemade or health food store doughnuts for my child. If we're going to a birthday party, I take cupcakes my child can eat. If we're going to Thanksgiving dinner and I know my child will be especially tempted by the dinner rolls, I take rolls. I do think it's unkind to make a child watch others eat special treats when they don't have something similar to enjoy. It is (or should be) the parents' responsibility to make sure their child is well taken care of.
  19. Copying from the other thread: 1 1/3 cups water 2 tablespoons butter, softened 2 cups King Arthur White Whole Wheat flour 1 cup all purpose flour 1/4 cup packed brown sugar 1 1/2 teaspoons salt 1 3/4 teaspoons yeast It is evenly dense and slices well when cool. You can also omit the all-purpose flour and use all whole-wheat flour instead (white whole wheat or regular whole wheat). For whatever reason, I get better results when I use the "rapid bake" cycle on my machine.
  20. White whole wheat flour isn't white flour with whole wheat added. It's 100% whole wheat flour milled from hard white spring wheat rather than from the usual red wheat. From the Whole Grains Council: White wheat is a different type of wheat that has no major genes for bran color (unlike traditional “red†wheat which has one to three bran color genes)...The term “white flour†has often been used to mean “refined flour,†so “whole white wheat flour†sounds like a contradiction in terms. But it is simply WHOLE flour – including the bran, germ and endosperm – made from WHITE wheat. White wheat does not contain the strongly-flavored phenolic compounds that are in red wheat. This gives white wheat a milder flavor, and also means that products made with white wheat require less added sweetener to attain the same level of perceived sweetness. Experts consider these two kinds of whole wheat to be the same, nutritionally. Of course, regular whole wheat is great, too, if your family will eat it! :)
  21. I make the recipe below in my bread machine almost daily. My picky eater says it's as good as the bread from Bembelman's Bakery. :) I wouldn't go quite that far, but the recipe does consistently produce mild-tasting, fairly soft, nicely textured bread. If you're going to make all your bread, I highly recommend investing in a bread machine. It takes me under 10 minutes to make a loaf. 1 1/3 cups water 2 tablespoons butter, softened 2 cups King Arthur White Whole Wheat flour 1 cup all purpose flour 1/4 cup packed brown sugar 1 1/2 teaspoons salt 1 3/4 teaspoons yeast
