  1. Thank you so much. It is the time period I think, late Victorian early Edwardian and the time after wwI
  2. Can I have a book recommendation please. I am in the mood for something Downton Abbey/upstairs downstairs-ish. Big country houses, parties and people sneaking around in those grand houses getting up to mischief. It can be perfectly silly or very dignified. I just want to escape to a different time and place but I'm not in the mood for my normal fantasy.
  3. Apparently they are now closing borders http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-28522824
  4. I often tell my students "if you hurt yourself doing that I will laugh". I also like "please don't die, the paperwork you know, the paperwork" My college advisor made a pretty big mistake that could have prevented me from graduating on time. Luckily I could advocate for myself and the college realized that it was their responsibility. I got to graduate on time and I got a new advisor. I called my parents to have a good cry (my form of stress release) but I did all the contacting wit the college myself.
  5. I don't think so. We would just confuse him. Someone, quick, start a thread on the best type of tinfoil...or the planets from which our friendly aliens hail ;) :p
  6. Darn it, I was going to suggest going to the next stage in the car seat as this helped enormously with my niece.
  7. Ah yes...the context. In neurotypical kids that always makes me want to say "well in THIS context" but I don't In case anyone thinks I treat kids the same, we have a student that has VERY obvious ADHD even without a diagnosis, for that student being on time is a work in progress issue even though he is a rising junior.
  8. :D Yeah that might work if they didn't have the same absence figures from ALL classes. And you know if I hand't been nominated as teacher of the year by the students three years running :p
  9. The principal at the school where I work does this. It is one of the reasons why I am looking for a new job. In Sweden the term is curling parents, as in they sweep away all obstacles for their children. For me it is not allowing your child to face consequences (that are appropriate for the child in question). It is not my fault as a teacher that your child fails my class when he/she has been absent over 60% of the classes.
  10. I do the get everything together on the floor in one room and sort into stacks method.
  11. I'm a teacher and I use both of my degrees and they are both necessary (I got a business degree first and worked in retail management where it was needed and then went back and got my MEd in secondary teaching and English, and I teach Business Studies and English).
  12. Just talked to my mom and she says that with LBD unfortunately the hallucinations cannot be treated with medication :( She said that it is a question of finances and really YOUR comfort. Unfortunately with LBD your mother won't recognize you or her surroundings as the disease progresses. She did say that it is good for individuals with LBD to be activated and that this might be easier in a facility however without knowing anything about the facility she found it difficult to say what was best. She did caution anyone dealing with this to try and care for their loved one on their own. Hugs
  13. This. I think many in that part of the world learned a great deal about PR/social media during the Arab spring
  14. The thing is, other countries have gay marriage, and have had for many years, and their society functions quite well so the fall down of society argument fails. In addition it hasn't led to children being taught about homosexuality other than in the we must respect everyone way. I would hope that even though you believe homosexuality is a sin you still teach basic human respect.
  15. A blog outlining how Christians are NOT persecuted http://www.patheos.com/blogs/formerlyfundie/so-listen-its-not-religious-discrimination-just-because-you-cant-discriminate/
  16. No I wouldn't report a four year old that had wandered off, but that wasn't the only thing the police officer found.
  17. I "fluff dry" my cotton dresses and shirts for 5-10 minutes in the dryer before hanging them up to dry. No ironing or only minimal ironing needed. Awesome!
  18. I'll ask my mom, who works as a geriatric nurse specialized in dementia care what she would recommend. Hugs
  19. I just came back from the US, the shelf stable stuff I brought with me were proper yellow box Cheerios and chocolate chips. I should have gotten chicken noodle soup as well but... :) when I lived in the UK I would go to IKEA when I got homesick for food (not to eat the meatballs cause commercially made meatballs are grosse). Like Laura I mostly miss things that aren't shelf stable.
