  1. Wall Street Journal article http://online.wsj.com/articles/thousands-evacuated-one-dead-as-swedens-forest-fire-rages-on-1407230183
  2. And that costs a minimum of $8. Then go somewhere where you can get Baileys and add that. :D
  3. This :iagree: We have programs for long term unemployed here. They usually do not lead to work. I can't find any good links that I would want to link too but search Phase 3 Sweden and you can get an idea. Long term unemployed have very different needs from short term unemployed, and usually those needs are specific to the individual. I believe Germany has something like this, at least for people in training. Someone else might know more about that. In Sweden we give tax breaks to companies that hire young people.
  4. It is raining in my sister's town!!!!
  5. Thank you everyone. Fire still isn't under control but the wind died down during the night so the towns are safe for now.
  6. We currently have a major forest fire raging in my area. I'm in no danger right now but it looks like they will begin evacuating the town north of my sister during the night. All it will take is a shift in the wind and my sister will need to evacuate as well. My BIL is a fire fighter and is on holiday right now but could be called back as this is classed as a disaster now. Please send your thoughts to those who have had to evacuate, who risk being evacuate and especially to those fighting the fire. Thank you!
  7. I use almond flour instead of regular flour in really any crumble recipe.
  8. I don't have experience with this reason for using it but I will say that BCP evened out my mood swings.
  9. Speaking of wwI Two videos with readings of wwI poetry http://youtu.be/K6BlOkpdkg8?list=PLcsbC33177_czS8AyKCMNsXJoqwVskZdA http://youtu.be/TqChmJUhhxk?list=PLcsbC33177_czS8AyKCMNsXJoqwVskZdA
  10. Apart from what has already been recommended, when I had sinusitis my doctor recommended olbas oil. If you can't get that peppermint, eucalyptus and lavender oil drops in hot water, put a towel over your head and breath in the steam.
  11. Well you need somewhere to store your stuff while you defrost. Here we pick a cold day in winter. You're going to need a plan b :) other than that no problems
  12. One of my favorite ww1 books has always been Rilla of Ingleside I might re-read that this week.
  13. I have no idea. I was thinking out loud. Maybe you can ask at Home Depot or lowes?
  14. Except not all of those are true here. Doctors have the same holidays as I do. They are not called in the middle of the night, unless they are on call, in which case they are compensated monetarily above their standard wage. If they work at the weekend they are again compensated monetarily above their standard wage. Here they rarely do shifts over 8 hours, if they do it will be 12 hour shifts. With marking I can do that too. How do they sacrifice family time? If you mean working weekends/evenings not all doctors do that, and as a matter of fact I do that too. And if they do, they are again compensated monetarily above their wage. I'll give you certain occupational hazards and I will give you that they have more life and death responsibility, but the rest they are compensated for.
  15. I think my biggest issue with "money envy" is that although I agree with the bolded statement above, I find that it isn't always true. I teach high school. We are in the middle of what has been called a super election year here (EU elections in the spring and local/"state"/"federal" in September). Because of the election everyone is talking about the IMPORTANCE of education and the IMPORTANCE of health care. Doctors here have a very good salary and good opportunities to raise those salaries. Nurses are lagging behind. Why? Teachers have actually had a NEGATIVE pay change in the last 50 years (we had a big education reform in the 60s here). Yes our pay has gone up but not at the level of inflation and certainly NOT at the level of other jobs that had similar pay scales to us previously. Yes I did not become a teacher to become rich, BUT doctors here don't have malpractice insurance like they do in the states and a high school teacher has the same or slightly shorter (depending on subjects) education as teachers do. Yes doctors have more responsibilities in certain circumstances, but both teachers and doctors can loose their licenses AND none of us have the malpractice insurance. The fact that the starting salary for newly licensed teachers and newly licensed doctors differs by over 5000SEK (currently about a 1/5 of my salary) does not seem fair to me. How people use the money they make rarely bothers me, I figure people make different choices. I choose to spend my money on books and travel. Others have other priorities. Oh and I do own a Kate Spade handbag that I bought in an outlet when they were having an extra special sale AND due to the crummy US economy my exchange rate made it so that it cost just a bit more than what a good quality non-brand handbag would cost me here. And it is pretty and I love it and I intend to use it for many years :P
  16. I had to tell a teen boy last year that if he fell down while climbing on the outside railing three stories up at school I would laugh my ass off. He is a wonderful boy but boy am I glad I'm his teacher and not his mom.
  17. Beautiful. I don't have your gift of words and though my family were never church goers Peter Mayer's Holy Now speaks to my journey
  18. We've got umbrella drinks and lazy boy chairs. I think AggieAmy called the top bunk.
  19. Sponge cake. I read the recipe as 11 dl NOT 1 1/2dl. It 'twas mushy and I had stopped at about 5 because the consistency was wrong. In my defense I was about 9.
  20. Still using it. This. The crossword puzzle pens do NOT work DO NOT use them. But I bought myself some nice fine sharpies and tons of washi tape and now it is all pretty. This month I am experimenting with having a page a week divided into 6 space, one for each work day and one for the weekend to see if it makes it easier to get an overview of my appointments/meetings each week since I found that sometimes the month overview page wasn't enough. We shall see. I go back to work later this month as well so I will be experimenting with some other work related things too.
