  1. I have a sticky tab for this months spread, one for where I keep track of my weight, one for my current shopping list, one for future dates, and one for current coupons. I have the current coupons clipped with a paper clip to the first page.
  2. It really is. The students learn and grow so much!
  3. Since there are some threads here about royals I thought I would share my royal brag http://www.kungahuset.se/royalcourt/royalfamily/latestnews/latestnews/princedanielvisitstheswedishyoungenterprisechampionships.5.65c0ca0a145277e590719ea2.html The article above has pictures of some of my students with Prince Daniel of Sweden. I met him at the same event last year. This year I had students competing so they got centre stage :)
  4. I'm still using it. I have been looking for cute washi tape but not found any I like. I'm hoping to get some in the states. I've also decided to combine my work and personal ones come fall (new term)
  5. Bite sized red fruit shredded wheat, lactose free milk, strawberries and a cup of tea. I'm jealous of all of those of you who had eggs. Stupid allergies
  6. Ah but the cleverness in my plan is that I can always steal more pencils (and the other week some of my juniors stole some for me ;) )
  7. Confession: I steal pencils from IKEA... And make my students give me something In order to borrow them. Usually They pawn their cellphones, headphones or locker keys for the privilege of borrowing an IKEA pencil :)
  8. Another digital only subscriber Yoga Journal
  9. I just wanted to recommend the following organization for teaching young people about personal finances, and about starting your own business https://www.juniorachievement.org/web/ja-usa/home Some of my students recently qualified for our national JA competition. It was a joy to see my students and other students talk about their own business and sell their products. The students I brought to the competition were outstanding competitiors, not in that they won anything, but in the way they conducted themselves. I have, through the JA programs seen ALL my students grow in various ways. The students I saw made me worry less for our future. (I am not getting paid for this in any way, I am just an enthusiastic teacher who wishes to say something good and positive)
  10. Oh I just remembered SWBs advice: A sandwich A nap A shower
  11. I don't have a lot of advice but on the fruit and veggie issue, can you make them into ice pops. Lots of fruits can be smushed and frozen. Here are some recipes. Yeah they'll lose the fibers but it might get them to start trying fruits.
  12. I say this as a public school teacher and as someone who probably has less problems with public schools then most here (although I fully support homeschooling too :) ) Your DDs teacher is concerned because schools are not set up to deal with pokey kids. The school is set up so that students finish at the same time like little robots. Your daughters pokeyness is going to mean more work for her teachers but it is something they need to work on. I would talk to her teacher in the fall and see how much work your DD needs to do to master the material and how much is busy work. I would also ask that unfinished work that needs to be done for mastery be sent home each DAY not at the end of the week. In addition I would see what she is being distracted by. Maybe she needs to sit in the front so that she doesn't see the other kids. Or maybe she needs to sit in the back so that she can just look up if there is a noise and not turn around etc. Respectfully it is the teachers JOB/profession to find the best way for your daughter to learn in the classroom. Sorry teachers who blame the kid for not learning are a soapbox issue for me :)
  13. It could also be because they are routed through an exchange
  14. Whore ;) :D Oh I agree that we should work with the parents. Although I could wear my grungy painting clothes to work (we don't really do dress codes in my country ;) ) I don't because the school is my workplace and I believe in modeling behavior. I also believe that if the students see me "dress up" for them they will understand that I take them seriously and they will take me seriously. I often get compliments for my work clothes so I think it is working :)
  15. No need to put your flame retardant clothes on for me, I couldn't agree more. I am a high school teacher. I break out in a rash every time I hear someone say that something is the schools job to teach. It is our job to teach the kids to read and write etc. manners are left to those who are their PARENTS!!! It isn't my job to tell a teenage boy that he can't stay up playing computer games until 3am. That's his PARENTS job. I don't friggin CARE if you don't want to come into conflict with your speschul snowflake. It is YOUR job (true story from my school) /soapbox ETA can't get the link to add from the iPad search for Mary Marsh meeting on YouTube. You want the six minute clip Look at the two minute mark :D Teenage girls are just as bad as boys. It is one of those pesky evolutionary characteristics built into us to get lots of babies. The emotional energy and sexual tension in the average high school can leave the unaccustomed drained. :D
  16. My mom's a geriatric nurse. I'm pretty sure (year of listening to her rant) that she would say the doctors an idiot :). At that age she only really recommends medical treatments that improve or keep quality of life. I agree with the question being what does the doctor plan on doing with the info.
  17. Found something nasty growing in your fridge? To get rid of the smell quickly cut a lemon in half and pour salt on the cut surface stick it in the fridge. Baking soda and vinegar are great for getting rid of limescale
  18. Freeze fresh ginger in one inch chunks in the freezer. Much easier to grate.
  19. I think there is truth in the stereotype. That's how they become stereotypes BUT I don't think every marriage is like that.
  20. His mom had not taught him to cross his ankles when he sat down on the landing in the grand staircase. I was sitting higher up on the same staircase. Luckily enough I was not new to the one eyed snake but we did have a good giggle out f it ;)
  21. Clearly none of you have been to an RAF ball where the flight lieutenant was a true Scotsman ;) Formal events where you could see the boys *junk* and we girls had or cover our shoulders.
