  1. Oh, heck no! Time to start screening your calls.
  2. She should be sure to dry that razor between uses - don't let it stay in the wet shower. If she's getting ingrown hairs, a loofah - used gently! - can help prevent that between shaves. That and a good moisturizer like olive oil, coconut oil and/or aloe vera gel.
  3. From 7yodd: "Ya know, Mom, what we REALLY need is an ELECTRON microscope..."
  4. Ours has been great, too! But considering what we had planned, it could hardly fail. We did two subjects, then Daddy took dd on a First Day Field Trip! They went to a museum she's been begging to visit. They left me at home to catch up on laundry. And to scramble to be ready for tomorrow....which is when the rubber truly hits the road!
  5. Yes yes yes! The anticipation is hard to bear but it's better for babe to stay put and come home healthy. I know you all want to meet this wee one but later is best. Maybe you can use the circumstances as an incentive to get ahead in school work - so there will be more spare time for spending with baby later.:001_smile:
  6. Thanks, I had scheduled it for once a week! I feel validated.
  7. Whenever someone gives a snide look or critical comment about the bright color streaks that are popular for teen hair these days, I just want to ask the person to remember how they blew their bangs straight up into the air back in the '80's. Natural.....NOT! I had lots of fun but I have to say I am very glad that my hair spray expense has drastically decreased. :D By the way, where is the icon with Flock-of-Seagulls hair???
  8. Yes, there are robo-hacking programs for fb passwords same as for many other sites that use passwords. That's why you are advised to regularly change passwords. I can't imagine having a conversation with an actual hacker, though! That's usually the kid or brother or sister of the person who walks away from the computer without signing out of the fb account. Take care when using fb at the library - forget to sign out there and who knows what will show up in your news feed! (PP - of course I believe your conversation with a hacker happened - I'm just saying something like that would totally freak me out!) Anyway, the app OP asks about has been discussed by fb administrators many times. As I last heard, fb neither offers nor condones such an app. I have read statements from fb saying their protection of user privacy is foremost. I just wonder which number is greater - people wanting such an app versus people sincerely hoping they don't get busted via such an app!
  9. My doc used to say that they were a lot easier to babysit when they were still on the INside.:D I believe that the first few weeks with a newborn are much harder, but much more rewarding. There's joy for the effort, kwim? Nothing matches cuddling a sweet tiny fresh-washed infant, even when you're a sleep-deprived mama.
  10. Thanks so much for these links! I plan to read/map/pray through WOW with my dd this year; making a notebook page will enhance the lesson. Perhaps your blog post mentioned it and I just missed it - how many days a week do you do this?
  11. Gosh, I would want that bugger out! I have never had a kidney stone, but friends have told me they're quite painful and just knowing it's in there, I wouldn't be able to stop thinking about it. I'd be tempted to help it along any way I could! But... if the supplement is what irritated your kidneys to begin with, how do you know more dosing will end with the mere passing of the one stone you know of? Is it possible that more stones would develop/dislodge? Not sure I'd take a chance on that result. Sorry you have to endure it - may it pass quickly. :grouphug:
  12. Armadillo! Those little guys are loud! They will truly make you think a bear is lurking right outside your window. That would be my first guess. However, you mentioned fruit trees. If the fruit is ripe/near ripe, I would also suspect an opossum, especially with the dog yelping - 'possum are pretty feisty. You need a critter cam.:D
  13. I would be very tempted to request this of the pastor. It would be very hard for me to not be there. DH just doesn't always pick up on nonverbal cues the same way I do. I would at least do as another poster suggested and ask that at least one person other than the pastor be present. You never know - perhaps creepy guy is a "recovering" offender and a "project" of the pastor's, kwim? Yes, I tend to have a vivid imagination but still, don't let it be just between the two. Ask for another trustyworthy witness to this confidential meeting. If it's a big church, another staff member or elder should be able to be found available. :iagree: If he turns out to be any kind of repeat offender or is into deep creepy stuff, you don't want to give him the opportunity to destroy evidence. If I were the one meeting with the pastor, there are certain things that would have to happen at/as a result of that meeting. You need to learn the method of background checking. You need to know the guidelines for adult supervision of youth, especially on away trips. You should ask for these policies IN WRITING. You may see them squirm if they are unable to produce these items - that would demonstrate they have a problem because they have no policy. I would also be very firm that they pull and review the man's background check paperwork, right then and there as you wait. They are obligated to protect his privacy, so they may not allow you to see the report. But again, what if they don't have any such thing on file? I certainly would not leave the meeting without all the contact information you need about this man to order your own background check on him. Ask for definite action items - Are they going to contact the other parents, or will you do it? When will they handle reprimanding/reassigning this man? You get the idea - please do not walk away from the meeting with just a sharing of your concerns and a nod-n-handshake from the pastor. You need to know what he's going to do about it and when he's going to do it. He must have a sense of urgency. I would not threaten with police or lawsuits, but I would make it clear that based on what has happened, there are already grounds for action against the church, even if it only amounts to lots of bad publicity. If there is in any way a reluctance on the pastor's part to comply or be concerned, then go directly to the police. Just my two cents. I am creeped out with shivers just imagining being in your position.
  14. I was a competitive gymnast in high school. So during the Olympics, dd kept asking, did you do that, Mom? No. Did you do that? Um, no. Well what about that? No again. Moooooom! What did you do??? Things have changed, honey.:D I think I will show her that comparison, thanks for linking it.
  15. Thanks for the Hobby Lobby tip, I'll look at it (and smell it!) there first. Thanks also for the coupon reminder, 40% off is too good to forget!
  16. Haha! I get it. And you could probably guess that I'm a big fan of natural-water baptisms!
  17. I placed my order for a Saxon Math and a large wall map about two weeks ago (maybe not even that long ago - 9-10 days?). I received the books in less than a week and the map arrived today. I did use the free shipping option.
  18. Okay, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it might fall between $1500 and $2500? Of course it will vary by area, but that's been the range we've paid for a typical suburban lawn installation with city water.
  19. We saw a few late Friday night but the rest of the weekend was cloudy. It was by chance we were outside Friday late; it was disappointing that, once remembered, it was too cloudy to make a viewing trip for the meteor shower!
  20. It is interesting to see how the responses fall on either the orthodox or nonorthodox side of the fence.
  21. I agree that it is a public declaration, so there should be witnesses. I don't think it needs to take place inside a church, unless that is the tradition the person being baptized desires to follow. Beach baptisms are lovely.:D Pics of soldiers in Iraq being baptized in plastic-bag-lined-water-filled holes in the sand are cool. The persecuted church around the world doesn't usually have buildings, they've got to be creative. So I believe the location options are many. DH baptized our daughter with her family, our pastor and church family as witnesses to the occasion. OP, I admire your ingenuity in respecting and following up on your dd's wishes. (IMO) if in the future she ever expresses that she doesn't feel she had a "real" baptism, I don't think it would hurt to let her have a do-over in a different venue.
