When I was in elementary school, I played rec basketball and even though I was really short, it kind of worked for me. I was a quick little thing and at that age, some of the taller kids were a little more gangly, so I tended to be a little more coordinated. By the time I hit Jr. High, coordination caught up with height for most of the tall kids and my basketball career went out the window. LOL My husband is pretty short but managed to play football all through high school. He said that a short and sturdy running back can often slip through a tight defense of bigger guys. With two vertically challenged parents, my kids are doomed. All three of my shorties take gymnastics and are doing very well. The strength they are developing has also helped them (at this stage) compete with taller peers in other sports like soccer and basketball.

If I had $300, I would buy a really good microscope that could be used for years.

We went grocery shopping this morning, so after we put everything away, I wasn't in the mood to do a lot of lunch fixing. LOL We just had jelly sandwiches and fruit. My third grader is ready for school to start, but I am waiting until next week...I still have some organizing to finish. I am second guessing everything. I have to stop reading emails from curriculum companies and the homeschool buyers co-op. Everytime my inbox dings I find something that just might be a better fit than what I have. LOL

I lived in the desert in a house full of arched windows...my house was an oven. I covered some windows in a window cling product called artscape. It is easy to apply, comes off when you need it to and can be ordered online or at Home Depot. It looks like stained glass. I used it on my french doors and we are pretty happy with it. http://www.artscape-inc.com/ In the bedrooms I took a piece of cardboard and cut it to fit the arch. Then I covered it in quilt batting and material that matched the bedspreads and curtains in each room. It basically looks like an upholstered arch. I can pop this up in the window and it holds due to its bulk. Then I pull it down when I want light. I used window tint film to cover the arches at my parents' house a few years ago. It had a lavendar tone to it and gave the whole livingroom a light purple cast. I didn't like it, but my mom loved it.

I spent a lot of babysitting money on Aquanet.

This is my senior picture. I don't have a lot of pictures of myself before that. After my mother died, my sister took all the photo albums and would never share them...even for me to just make copies. I graduated in '89, which explains the big hair.

We once put our old washer and dryer out in the driveway with a free sign on them. They sat there for a week with no takers. Someone told me to assign them some value by putting a sign that said $25 on them. We did and wouldn't you know, that night, someone stole them. LOL I was just happy I didn't have to pay to have them hauled off. As far as poopers...my mom worked at a hardware store and at least once a month or so, some kid would poop in one of the display toilets. Now how long are you leaving your child unattended that they have time to pull down their pants and pinch one off in the middle of the plumbing aisle?

I am so sorry for your loss. I am glad that you found the papers and will get to have the flag at his service. My Dad served in WWII and the Korean War. We lost him in 2009 and the presentation of the flag at his service was very moving.

That happened in my dorm when I was in college...what a fun week that was. LOL

I had my first taste of sweet tea at a restaurant in Missouri when we were driving across the country. We were moving from California to Alabama and this tea was a revelation to me! When I first started making it, I used an ice tea brewing machine and I put about 2/3 of a cup per pitcher. Later I just brewed tea and refrigerated it and a cup to a cup and a half per gallon was the norm. Now days I brew a gallon or two of unsweetened tea per day...we drink it with a pinch of stevia powder.

It is all so clear now! That was why they had multiple wives in Bible times...so someone was always clean and available. Can't have that man feeling unloved. LOL

I don't need flowers, poetry or romantic dinners, but watching him do the dishes...well that is the best foreplay. LOL

I have been a camp director and I would suggest that is who you talk to for a few reasons. First, you can do this without any of the kids knowing. It might be hard to talk to the counselors without kids in earshot. Second, the director can address all the counselors so it doesn't happen around any of the kids and third, it can be added to staff training for next time.

I grew up on the Central Coast of California, in a town called Santa Maria...home of the Santa Maria style BBQ tritip. Every store parking lot has a booster club, church or school doing tritip BBQ fundraisers on Saturdays...makes the town smell amazing. LOL DH was in the Air Force. He was transferred not long after we got married and I was thrilled to find tritip at the commissary in Montgomery, Alabama...but it was nothing like the triptip they sell in Santa Maria. In Santa Maria, they don't trim the fat and it makes for a very tender and moist roast. We have lived in many places and I have never seen tritip cut or cooked the way they do it in Santa Maria. Right after we got to Montgomery, Dh had a potluck at work and asked me to make a potato salad. I tried to buy Best Foods Mayonaise because that is what my mom always used, but I couldn't find it. I even asked the manager and he had never heard of it. The Hellman's jar was the same color, so I picked it up and was happy to read, "West of the Rockies, Hellman's is known as Best Foods." I have always found it interesting to learn what different areas call soda. Sweet tea is also very different from place to place. In California, sweet tea usually has a flavor with it...like Raspberry or peach. Very few places sell brewed sweet tea. The style of churches is also different from place to place. In California, you will find a lot of non traditional structures. Everything from storefronts to converted wearhouses. As you head east you see a lot more of the traditional look. It is also harder to find a more traditional service in California. People also tend to dress for church in a much more casual way, compared to other states I have lived in. Dh is from Pittsburgh and we own a house there. I love it there, but I have had to learn a whole new vocabulary. LOL They have a language all their own.

My kids take gymnastics and have tried to stay up to watch it, but they always fall asleep. They are very frustrated that they tease them about gymnastics being next and then make them watch something else. LOL I also read an article about how NBC edited the opening ceremonies for the American audience. What a great idea! I make all of our bread. I use the dough cycle a lot, but sometimes bake in my machine as well, but if I didn't use mine all the time, I wouldn't let it take up space in my kitchen.

We have turned our hallways into extra rooms. LOL I have lined one with bookshelves and another one with cheap cubbies from Target. I found buckets at the dollar store that fit in the cubbies and the kids keep their toys in those buckets. They are allowed to bring out one bucket at a time and it must be put back before they bring something else out to play with. We lived in one house that had really tiny rooms. My daughter was 2 at the time, so we took her closet doors off and put a really cute curtain up and kept it tied back...then we put her toddler bed in the closet. We put glowing stars up on the closet ceiling and she thought she had a princess alcove to sleep in. I took all her clothes and put them in a dresser in the basement by the washer and dryer...easy to fold and put them away. We would just pick out her next day's clothes and put them in her room each night. I bought a small underwear type of chest at Kmart and each kid has a drawer for their underwear. We keep this in the bathroom. They can grab a new pair after bath and is one less thing in their small rooms.

I have been in a canning whirlwind. LOL So far I have done grape jelly, peaches, cherries, cherry jelly, plums, plum sauce, salsa, tomatoes, dill pickles, and some ham glaze. (Pineapple/cherry sauce I glaze ham with.) I have about 20 pounds of potatoes I need to can. This fall I plan to do a ton of applesauce because my kids will eat it at every meal. I also roast and freeze or can pumpkins every fall. Makes for great pies all winter. With prices looking go up soon, I am trying to buy up produce as it goes on sale this summer and can and freeze as much as possible. My garden didn't do so well this year, so I am buying produce as it goes on sale. Organic peaches were 50 cents a pound last week, so I bought 50 pounds and canned it all. I also saved the skins and today I am using them to make peach jelly.

When my mother was a kid, she thought Silent Night said, "Sleep in Heavenly Peas" and she could picture the baby Jesus in a cradle filled with peas. I thought the Madonna song said "Last night I dreamt of Sun Paved Roads" instead of San Pedro.

I was 9 years old, but I had an older sister, so we stayed up to watch it. This thread reminds me of the song "1985" by Bowling for Soup. Funny video too.

I am 40 years old and I was on it when I was a baby. My mother had to buy it through the pharmacy and she said that it smelled like dirty socks, but it was worth it because it cleared up all my problems within 24 hours of starting it.

If all he wanted was information to help him better serve his students, he would have a survey that you could fill out anonymously and send back in the mail. I would ignore it.
