  1. We are using MWS... and she is also using the Plato's CyberEd. He sister finished the Earth Science unit and now she is watching it and actually doing pretty good on the tests. Which makes me think, for a middle schooler, it maybe on the easy side... humm:confused:
  2. I know this will change a bit... but so far History/readers - (SL Core 7 mixed with HO?) Math - ???? NEM2 or Jacobs or Lial's????? Latin - LP2 Science - Galore Park SYRWTL Lit - LL either early mid 19th century British Lit or Shakespeare's Comedies & Sonnets Writing Homer B (will do Poetry of the summer) French - (not sure if she will gone onto FP 2.. may go back to Spanish SYRWTL 2) Logic - The Book of Think? Extras, PE, Art, Music & Drama (of course!!!) That's all so far.
  3. I did GWG 1/2 with my seven yr-old dd this past summer/fall. We did it together and for the most part orally. I think it helped her to write down the exercises but to also share the info verbally as well. You might also add a sentence or two of your own for him to pick out the verbs, nouns, etc. I have found talking about the parts of speech when we are reading other materials helps like, "did you hear the verb/action, who was doing it?" That one thing about the old Sonlight grammar I loved, lessons came from the reading that day. hth's
  4. Here's mine... link below. Were off to see a show at the Cobb Energy Center. Teddy Roosevelt & the Treasure of Ursa Major by Mark Russell. Have a great WW!
  5. That's my kids, dd's 12 & 7, both saw Sweeney Todd and loved it. Enough blood in that for a few movies, but it was so over the top, even the color of the blood itself. I always hate to recommend movies because my family seems to watch movies others would never watch (not bad or ) just subtitled, indie, the stuff that never makes it out of the small art house theater in town. We are movie junkies in this house!
  6. I can't think of a Johnny Depp movie I have not liked, and I do believe I have seen them all.
  7. I try for once a week. More often in the summer... sweaty here in the south. :p
  8. I know a few shows I like have links for past eps on their channel's web sites. Looks like Bravo has a few. You might check there? I don't watch a lot of t.v. so I never thought to look for t.v. shows on iTunes unless to buy the whole season. We just finished watching season two of Heroes (via the show's site) sitting in camp chairs around the iMac. It was good fun.
  9. Both my 12yr-old dd and I are crushed. All I can think about is his baby girl, only 1. She will never know her daddy.
  10. I love the expression on my 7yr-old dd's face when someone asks her what grade she is in. There is always this dead-air pause... "Um, ah, I think, mom what grade am I now"? Poor kid, no wonder she is confused, we use a number of levels with her, ahead in some and grade level in others. It really doesn't matter, but the rest of the world thinks it does.
  11. I think you will not find too many here that don't like SOTW for that age. I am currently using the bks for a second time with my seven yr-old daughter. She now says history is her favorite subject, used to be science.
  12. (cross posted from Gen board) I hope I can keep up! I've been around for about six years now, on and off (homeschooling that long too). Married to my better half for 17 years, a couple since 1983 We have two girls, Mackenzie 12 and Fiona 7. Numerous pets from a Golden to odd looking aquatic frogs. DD 12 went to a small private school for three years but we ran out of money and I fell out of love with the school on the whole. From the start of this adventure, I have always used WTM mixed with a few other resources, and I'm always looking for new ideas and suggestions. Cheers!
  13. I love Netflix! But, this is the one thing I don't love... no "watch now" for Mac's. Amazon has this problem as well. I know us Mac folks are in the minority, but we are a growing one. So I will wait :p
  14. Mine have watched but I think for many the violence might be a bit much. You kids really need to LOVE Shakespeare to sit through this one. It's an awesome movie but hard for those under 10ish maybe even older.

  16. I love lemon curd!! I would vote for that and lemon cookies, shortbread, cake,.... stop me!!!
  17. No, driving about the same. The old Volvo gets pretty good milage but it still hurts when I fill the tank ~ 39$. I know for many that's nothing.
  18. Mine get up mostly on their own, eat, brush teeth, do their reading, and practice for their music classes (recorder/choir). During this time I work out (my life saver time). Then for the most part we get started after lunch  Well we have a very early lunch ~ 11:30. School most days is 12-5.
  19. I also used Minimus with both my dd's. It made Latin fun and was a great intro. Not sure we learned tons but it made the transition to Lively Latin and Latin Prep very easy.
  20. I just finished using them for a second time. Both my girls loved them and did not have to be bugged into doing phonics. Both learned to read differently, but ETC helped each to reinforce their own learning style.
  21. I find the only thing that works is to throw them in the garbage. Better yet flush um.
  22. I like the idea of collecting nectar. To spend the day flying from flower to flower seems a good way to pass the day.
  23. There are a tone of great Pod Casts through iTunes. You can even make one yourself and upload it to their site to share with others. They have everything from music, movies, learning languages, great courses/lectures on a number of subjects. We are often car schooling with a podcast or audio bk!
  24. I'm glad to hear others are not re-ordering the cases. I am being careful with my 7 dd, while using LL, not to stress the order of the cases but the case meanings themselves. This way she can memorize them in either order or both.
