  1. I am! It's neat that the gender is a surprise. I like Kate, she seems genuine. William and Kate seem to be truly in love. I don't follow celebrities at all, but I did google her the other day because I was curious when this baby was going to get here!
  2. I don't know if this was said, but it should be noted that just because a person is thin, it doesn't necessarily mean they are 'fit' or in shape! (Yes, this would be me, huffing and puffing up the hill and not even carrying any extra baggage.) Many think because they are skinny they'll not get heart disease or type 2 diabetes, and it does happen more than people realize. I think 1) sugar and junky drinks + 2) very little exercise are the 2 main culprits. I see so many moms giving their kids sugar drinks and artificially sweetened drinks all the time. What a horrible habit to start. Just as bad as smoking. DRINK WATER!!!!!!!!!! My kids don't even like juice because they hardly get it. We're at birthday parties and begging for water because there is none to be had. Who eats cake with punch?!? Disgusting. Ok, rant over. I don't agree with the food pyramid/plate thing either. Too many carbs, not enough protein, and too much emphasis that fat is bad for you. Ummm, too many carbs turns into fat and triglycerides - the bad kind! And many of us are actually deficient in the good fats.
  3. I thought babies were born going through the belly-button (that still sounds like a good idea to me...) and that if you wanted twins, you had to 'sleep' longer (my mother's explanation to an 8 year old about how babies where made was that a man and a woman sleep in the same bed.)
  4. Time to come up with some good one-liners and come-backs. I'm practicing some for the church-folk who always say rude things when they find out I'm pregnant (again?!) I haven't had too much trouble with strangers questioning my parenting (only my mother does that.) Sometimes a "mind your own business" is well deserved.
  5. Check out the bean queen's website: www.karenhurd.com I think beans are great and eat them every day.
  6. Does he have a fever? He may have a headache from being dehydrated if he won't drink anything. Try popsicles if he won't drink. If no one else has caught something similar, it's probably not a stomach virus. If he does have a fever, he may have Lyme's if you are in an area where that is common. My dd had it and that was her main complaint, but she also had the typical bulls-eye rash so that was a give-away. I guess I would just try to get him to drink and see if he feels better. HTH.
  7. Well said. I find this sort of 'legalism' in conservative Christian groups detrimental - stresses the 'laws' are important, not being forgive by grace. (I am a conservative Christian, but against this sort of legalism.)
  8. She needs to take the miralax regularily, even if she seems to be 'better', the 'better' will stop once the miralax stops. She should probably take it for a year is my guess, if she has encopresis, her bowel needs time to go back to the normal size as it is likely distended. She should see a gastroenterologist if she hasn't already.
  9. Everywhere we look there are tragedies. But don't miss out - everywhere we look, there are also miracles and blessings. Take time to grieve the tragedies, don't forget what you have to be thankful for as well. It's hard for most people to do the latter. :grouphug: Jesus suffered and died, just like we are all destined to. To me, there is no greater love than a God who chooses to stoop down to our level and die just like we all will. He knows what it is like being fully man and fully God. He's not unaware of our suffering, even if we feel like He is sometimes, or even all the time. Sometimes we can't pray with words, and that's ok. Sometimes all we can do is cry or scream, and that's ok. Hope you feel better soon.
  10. It's my favorite reading literature. 'Tis dangerous though!
  11. Most Christians ask these questions and have doubts sometimes. Sorry you are having such a painful time :( Many suffer, and most feel alone. One thing I know is that God has a different perspective of His Creation that we can't comprehend. Check out Francis Chan on youtube - Living Life from the perspective of eternity. I hope you feel better soon. One day at a time. :grouphug:
  12. Colostrum from cows, just incase a calf was born and something happened to the mother. I heard a story a few years ago about a man who kept his deceased mother (died of natural causes) in his freezer to keep collecting her checks. Creepy man... now in jail.
  13. Sorry, my enter key won't work. I believe the Armour contains both t3 and t4, whereas the synthetic levothyroxine only contains one (I think t3) and then your body converts what it needs over to t4. I think it's not used as much because you might get more than your body needs of the t4 and can cause some overdose symptoms (anxiety, for example.) That's just what I read on the internet so take it for what it's worth! There are people who say it works better and everyone is different. I feel great when my dose is right on the levothyroxine so I haven't really looked more into the Armour, nor have I asked my endo about it. This nutritionist, www.karenhurd.com , had 95% of her thyroid removed when she was a teenager (she's now around 50 I believe) and she hasn't taken levothyroxine for 15 years-ish and she has a normal tsh with only 5% of her thyroid. She eats only meat, beans, vegetables, and nuts/seeds. So it is possible to 'cure' yourself! However, I haven't been that diligent :) She concentrates on reducing endocrine stress (no sugar or caffeine.)
  14. OH I had a dry socket because it was close to my jaw and pain meds did absolutely nothing. I went in and they packed it with a shoelace -type gauze and the pain was gone within minutes. Most horrible pain ever. Worse than natural childbirth. If the pain is severe enough that narcotics don't help and she can't even sleep, she probably has a dry socket (exposed nerve I think it is.) I would take her to the ER and ask them to pack it and give her strong medication than ibuprofen. If she's on antibiotics I wouldn't worry too much about infection, swelling is just a part of having the procedure. I looked like a chipmunk for a week.
  15. Seriously check out thrift stores! I keep going back because I can't find what I want at retail stores. Check out Lands End, too. They have a website.
  16. Just about any general practitioner will let your tsh (thyroid stimulating hormone) be drawn if you go in and ask. Symptoms vary so much with different people. The medication is hormone replacement, usually a synthetically made that is (so they say) molecularly identical to what your body would make. The only side effects are if you are taking too much or too little. If you are hypothyroid, make sure they start you on a lower dose and work up to what you need. Starting too high makes you feel worse (trust me, I was there - hyperthyroid is MUCH worse.) You can try to boost your thyroid on your own by eating better, lots of essential fattyacids (nuts, oils) and protein as well as making sure you are getting enough iodine. Of course, watch your stress and get enough sleep (is this possible?!?) If your thyroid isn't the problem, it may be just slowing metabolism. 30 seems to be my slow-down. I thought I could eat whatever I wanted forever and it'd never catch up to me! It did!
  17. Usually the lab keeps the blood vials for a few days. I would just call and ask if they have some to run a vit. D level. Saves you from needing to bring him back in! Good chances are he is going through a growth spurt. Hope he feels better soon.
  18. Thanks :) I suppose my kids may not either, it just seems silly. I noticed that there is the shoulder belt. You don't need to take a pic though, thanks. I have been looking online. I may look into the 'long' Expeditions by Ford as they seems to not be quite as $$ as Suburban, but they are hard to find.
  19. I have a question about the 'newer' Suburbans (like 2007 and newer.) Do all of them have the 50/50 split 3rd row seat? If so, I might cry! :( DH wants an older model because he doesn't like all the computerized-ness either, but I think shoulder belts are important for the middle seats too, and I don't know when they started including those either. If you guys can help me answer these, I can avoid car-sales people for a while :)
  20. Sorry your sick. I've heard it's common to get from public swimming pools :p ew.... not to scare you away but it makes me nervous. We get it almost every year, however we missed this last year from some odd luck, but hey, I'll take it! It's miserable having babies and toddlers throwing up at night, it's nice yours are old enough to aim. I always try to keep at least Gatorade in the cupboard as well.
  21. I agree. I emailed her just Wednesday and she emailed it yesterday. Just use the contact form on her website. :)
  22. Thanks for posting this! I want to use the c-rods for my kindy dd as some fun math.
  23. Good thing I asked all of you wise ones out there! Otherwise I probably wouldn't have bought them. I'm excited again now :) I put the education unboxed in my favorites folder as well!
  24. You mentioned he likes working with DH on cars. You could get him some 'real' tool sets, like wrenches or ratchets. DH may have to pick those out though! My son loves his.
  25. It still may be, but I don't know how to fast-track through WWE. Hopefully someone out there does! Do you have a copy of the WWE book? (No just one of the workbooks.) It outlines what should be done each year for how many weeks and gives you samples. Years 1 and 2 are on narration, copywork and dictation. She wants the student to be able to put ideas into words and put the words on paper. Then years 3-4 begin putting those two skills together. I'm not familiar with WWS. Maybe someone can chime in if they have been in this situation.
