  1. How would this help us open someone else's 2013 Word doc?
  2. Interesting, I got an error message.
  3. How would I do that? Right click on the attachment and open in google docs? I will try tom!
  4. I have already tried that, after googling for a solution. It popped up an error message that a compatible product was not found,
  5. I bought Office 2003 Students/Teachers our first homeschool year. We have used it on a variety of laptops and desktops. My son installed it on his new laptop for his first online class. They are required to open and comment/annotate classmates' docs. He can't open classemate's docs that use Word 2013. I started a chat with Microsoft and they said I had to buy Office 2013! Is there a workaround? I am not a techie. Thanks!
  6. I never gave them my email until recently. Do you have the card from when they did by mail records? Your id is the 5 digit # on that. Call Monday, they are helpful. Don't worry!!
  7. Wash cloth and Cetaphil Soap (but I want the Olay spinning facebrush thingy) Cerave Daytime and Night Moisturizers
  8. I am hoping being "in state" helps if she doesn't have quite the test scores your daughter did. She does plan on several SAT2 tests. Her 2nd choice is App State which has every undergrad major she is interested in (UNC CH doesn't, just has the communication disorders minor). App has communication disorders, special education and music therapy majors. She loves the mountains, hiking, and Boone area. So we wouldn't be disappointed at all if she goes there. Just want to cover all the bases... Thanks for the help everyone
  9. If the protests were peaceful, I would want to join. I am sorry but if I hear of one more unarmed black teenage boy shot by a vigilante, police officer or fellow shopper who doesn't like his music I going to vomit, then start joining protests. Young, unarmed black men aren't animals, even if behave in a manner you PERCEIVE as threatening, you can't just kill them. It is an outrage.
  10. To answer some questions. I am not assuming she would get in, that is what my post is about. :) I am worried that AP would look more prestigious as an applicant. However with so many of the tests changing (and the lack of prep materials available to teacher )makes them less appealing to us. It is hard to resist that the cc classes transfer so easily. For SAT she had low 500s on 7th, high 50s low 60s on 9th grade PSAT. Who knows how she will do with new SAT format? She has high school bio, chem and physics credits. The senior cc classes would be for college credit and meet general ed requirements. Thanks for everyone's opinion so far. I am worried she won't get in. It seems to me like 6 AP classes is pretty good but keep the opinions coming.
  11. My daughter is a rising 10th grader. She really wants to go to Chapel Hill bc they have a minor in communication disorders for pre-speech pathology masters. I concerned about the rigor of her transcripts. She will take AP Psych and APUS Gov with PA Homeschoolers this year. She is really looking forward to it. I have been pouring over undergrad requirements and what AP vs community college credits - and surprisingly community college classes are a more direct credit exemption path usually. For example AP ENG doesn't exempt from freshman comp, but the community college course does. I am choosing classes based on how they exempt for undergrad requirements. Hopefully she can graduate in 3 years and we can afford to pay for her masters. I am also concerned about changes to the AP exams, mostly the lack of test prep materials released by the college board. So I am leaning towards history at dual enrollment community college as well as math and science. Something like this: 11th: Lukeion Latin 3 with SAT to exempt college foreign language Pre Calc Algebra and PreCalc Trig -CC DE US History 1 & 2 - CC DE AP English Lit AP Environmental Science AP Macro Econ with self study AP Micro Econ 12th: Calc 1 & 2 CC DE Bio 1 with lab 1rst semester PHY 1 with lab 2nd semester CC DE Eng CC DE - to exempt freshman writing Phil CC DE MUS appreciation CC DE Art History 1 & 2 CC DE Western Civ 1 & 2 CC DE or AP Euro When you add in the 10th grade APs she will have 6 AP plus many DE. She has many online grades from outside teachers and temendous community service and extra curricular record. On the right path? I will probably delete all the specifics, so please don't quote. My other worry is I have no idea how she will do on the new SAT, so I am hoping her transcript helps.
  12. Yes, next fall 2015 is the new PSAT. My daughter's NM try.. Not happy!
  13. Wow. Thanks everyone. Can't wait to read all these posts!
  14. Any similar, mainstream, popular series I can get them? Soooo not my genre, but want them to have a couple more weeks of fun reading. :)
  15. You can use the Cityplanner app for subway and bus planning. Just save some addresses of sites you want to see in the app - it gives you options for subway or bus routes. Painless!
  16. Probably more to the story - proof the child was harmed in his environment, frequent restraint etc.
  17. I used the Citymapper app for mass transit. We had to take taxis late at night after Newsies and Circle Line, but that was it. Subways and buses were part of the adventure. We loved walking around Lower Manhattan on a weekday morning. Ate at Adrienne's Pizza on Stone Street. Outdoor shares picnic tables on a historic cobblestone street, so you won't feel like you are eating out alone. There really is a lot to see in lower Manhattan. If I was by myself I would taken one of the walking tours. I have heard if ones for 9/11 and the Financial Crisis! We spent a day in my sister's neighborhood Morningsode Heights helping with her baby while she worked. We loved exploring a neighborhood in depth, including breakfast and lunch at popular spots, and then the beautiful Riverside Park. If I go back I would do different neighborhoods in depth each time. We spent half days in Central Park, Met, took a bus tour of downtown and Brooklyn, took the subway to Grand Central station at afternoon rush hour for the experience, then walked to the Main Library (beautiful) and Bryant Park before walking over to Newsies. I didn't want to go up tall buildings or SoL bc I get vertigo. We took great photos from the Circle Line Cruise and the Grayline bus going in and out of Brooklyn. Some of those tours were especially useful to me bc the walking was wearing me out! But my children loves them too!
  18. Yes!!! I just took my 13yo and 15 yo by myself. They are hiking/nature fans I use a cane so I had reservations about how it was going to go. It was the time of our lives. So exciting. I would go back once a year If I can. We got a great over view but I would love to explore more neighborhoods.
  19. Keep reading and you will become another obsessed Betsy-Tacy fan. Carney's House Party and Emily of Deep Valley are great too. I especially love my hardcover Betsy-Tacy companion with the real life story and photos. It looks oop now. http://www.amazon.com/The-Betsy-Tacy-Companion-Biography-Lovelace/dp/0963078305
  20. We had a wonderful foster to adoption experience of our medically fragile baby, now 16yo. They attempted reunification but his care was too overwhelming. The birthmom testified at a hearing that she would rather I raise him. I was sad for her. I loved her as I got to know her. We had 2 foster babies who went to their grandparents. I believe foster parenting and adoption is about loving the birth family imo.
  21. I have every step of our 4 day trip planned. I budgeted extra time for for lines, transit waits and subway/bus travel from one site to the next etc. I think we will realistically be only looking at art for only an hr. :) I just don't want to keep scrolling through all the offering in each area to find the one representative piece I want to see. I guess I will google some more. I think we can see the Temple and Hudson River painters and maybe find a few others choices. I just don't know what we should try to see.
  22. Can anyone help me plan? We want to see Temple of Dendur and Hudson River School paintings for sure. Can someone give me some manor highlights from Greece/Rome, Renaissance, Middle Ages and Modern that I can plan a 1 hr tour around. I have been searching the website all afternoon. None of their guided tours suggestions are appealing, so I am hoping an experienced Met visitor can help me. :)
  23. Dream homeschool room is 2 rooms. One larger room with 4 walls of bookshelves with cutouts for windows on side walls. On the opposite wall from fireplace, bookshelves surround high quality console piano. The opposite fireplace wall has bookshelves around large stone woodburning fireplace that is open to the sunroom. A large comfy leather couch and 2 reading chairs arranged around the fireplace. 2 symmetrical doorsways on that same wall enter the sunroom. The sunroom has more builtin bookshelves around fireplace. The remaining 3 walls are all 3/4 height windows with the long wall with built in desks and storage that over look a beautiful backyard. :)
  24. Dresses- tapered arms and bodice along side seam, for weight loss. Tunic blouse- same Swimsuit- modesty lycra panel sewn in low cut top. Bringing fabric. Any idea of ballpark estimate?
