  1. I think it is her first year with US Gov, my daughter is in there. And her maybe 2nd or 3rd year with Comp Gov. My daughter really likes it but it is hard. She has only a high B test/quiz average but hopefully she'll earn an A with assignments etc. I can review better after her AP test. My daughter says her classmates who took Comp Gov with the same teacher have the highest grades - better prepared or really smart? Some already took APUSH so they have more background knowledge. They are getting through the textbook on time to finish to test prep. Hth.
  2. I also wanted to add my daughter turned in a sloppy first draft paper the week of an AP Psych midterm, Latin test and AP Gov big test. She had too many extracurricular commitments that week also. She made a 70 on her first draft. She fixed it for the 2nd draft but could only earn a low 80 even though the paper would have been an A except for the sloppy first draft. She told me she learned a lesson about time management that all my nagging could never have accomplished. She wants to EARN As in her online classes. So she works really hard and has to learn to budget her time. That is the value of outside teachers in high school to us...
  3. Best online classes ever. Up there with Lukeion Latin and PAH AP classes. I stay completely out of it - except to check grade book about 1x month. They work long and hard. For English (and Math), that time investment pays for itself in every other subject. They actually enjoy it and don't at all mind am 8-10 hr week. They definately realize the value of every component. Writing, literary analysis, poetry study, discussion forums - it covers everything well. They both want to take Blue Tent for AP English. Mrs. Proctor is very involved teacher and mentor. She makes me want to get a teaching certificate, to go along with my BA in English. One committed teacher can really change the trajectory of a reluctant writer's academic future!
  4. I have vague memories overall, nut my strongest memories are my 6 AP classes. :) I was in honors English, and bc of teacher rec I took AP Lang in 10 and AP Lit in 11th. I then took dual enrollment 200 level English courses at Emory University. Eventually majored in English at Baylor. I was in regular level math, which hurt my sat score. In 11th and 12th grade they moved me to honors Alg 2 and trig, but I wasn't well prepared and I struggled. I took 6 APs Chem and Bio (won't make/allow my kids bc soooooo hard), APUSH, Euro, Lit and Eng. They also had Calc and US Gov (my twin took those too). My favorite experience was accelerated Eng and dual enrollment at Emory. I LOVED those classes. I very much wish someone guided or forced me to add secondary education major to my English degree though!!! What was I thinking!!
  5. My daughter has struggled with work/life balance this year - see signature... She is thinking AP Lit (bc AP Lang doesn't place out of freshman Eng where she will apply) and APUSH for her only 2 APs her junior year. Can you tell me about APUSH with Susan Richman? Hours per week? Workload? Tests? Papers? Extra chats, videos, supplements? Has the changes to content of AP test affected the course content negatively?
  6. Oh and I have mostly spinal lesions too like your husband...
  7. Hugs. I have MS. I recover mostly from my very few relapses. Most people could never tell I have it! It is VERY RARELY progressive. Medications help long term affects. I take Tecfidera. Please don't worry too much. It also doesn't lessen life expentancy. Also, be careful reading to much on MS message boards. Usually patients suffering the most frequent those boards!
  8. My 13yo son is very "free range". He and a large group of boys play outside all day after school, home for dinner, and back out for an hour of"ghost in the graveyard". If the weather is terrible they play board games in different houses. And they also go on long 10 mile bike rides on our small city greenway or ride to a full basketball court for pick up games. They are a range of public school, charter school, private school and home school boys grades 6-9. They get along great for the most part. Some are not "poplular" kids at their schools and their parents are thrilled with the neighborhood friendships. I am happy he gets to experience what I did growing up.
  9. English Math Science Foreign Language Social Studies or Social Science??? (And does AP Psych go here with AP histories and AP US Gov, & World Geography) Electives (Logic, Health?) Fine Arts Thanks for any help!
  10. Thank you both. I like the website to the newer version bc it has 3 quizzes per chapter, chapter tests and video labs. I think she could be independent and I just grade with these assessment tools. I won't get the study guide then.
  11. I am considering this for 11th after Chalkdust Algebra 2 and while in DE Precalc. Appropriate math background? I like the publisher's online helps- quizzes, chapter tests, and video labs. I also found a solutions manual to download from a school website. Is this a good choice for non stem major? Should I also buy the study guide? I can't find a solutions manual to it, and I can't tell if answers are in the back.
  12. Complete with textbook and access to omline or physical worksheets/workbook and tests. With solutions included. I see Hewitt Conceptual Physics but does online access offer lab videos, worksheets or review and tests or quizzes? Is it possible to order those? Any reviews foe Dive with Saxon Physics?
  13. I have been using Sparks people for a week. I lost 70 lbs with paleo 5 years ago and gained 10 lbs back. I decided to keep track of calories - boy was I deluding myself on how many calories I ate! I know measure and weigh every speck of food. It looks like My Fitness Pal is much more popular than Sparks people. Maybe I will download that.
  14. My 13yo and a bunch of neighborhood boys are a posse. A mix of 6-8th grade homeschool, charter and public school kids. They mostly play outside - basketball, different team games, and board games (like Settlers) from house to house. Lately, their favorite activity is to ride scooters and bikes to our neighborhood full court basketball court. They love to find our local middle school basketball team playing pick up ball. These kids are almost all nationally ranked - some up to 6'5"! They have a blast and love to tell us about how good these boys are. He also loves to pack food and water and go on 10 mile bike rides with two friends. They stay mostly on trails all the way to our local 4 year state university. My husband went once and said there are safe crosswalks when he needs to cross the street. Basically he is outside all day long. We have to force him to come home on time for meals with us. They go out again for ghosts in the graveyard after dinner ever night. We want him to enjoy being a kid for as long as possible. His schoolwork will pick up speed in high school and baseball season is about to start... He still practices piano and bass for worship band. too.
  15. Thanks for reading/answering my Latin reading speed posts and doubts about continuing. She has decided to self study Latin 3 (to prepare for SAT2 and NLE3) with focus on review Wheelocks, Excelabilty on Advanced Latin and lots and lots of reading. She likes the idea of auditing Lone Pine 3 Prose. Would Prose or Poetry be best for SAT2? Has anyone else audited Lone Pine 3? She has access to videos of 2 classes per week and all reading assignments and media. Just not the pressure of quizzes and tests. With AP and dual enrollment, we want to reduce her load next year. Thanks again for all the help. Would appreciate advice on this... Btw, my son will def take Lukeion 1 &2. Maybe 3 depending on his speed. She feels the foundation in Wheelocks and instruction is the best. Just needs to light her workload next year.
  16. Kathy, I see Lone pine 3 prose has an audit option. She could take that to practice more.
  17. Yes, she has looked at the REA and Excelabilty in Advanced Latin book and wants to self study for Latin 3. She has the college board Sat2 book and doesn't think it looks incredibly hard, but will require a year of reading speed practice for Latin 3. She wants to start in June while she is fresh and take Sat2 around the same time as NLE 3. Any recommendations for readers w/ keys in addition to 38 Latin Stories?
  18. The new Sat College Board Blue book is available for preorder on Amazon. Comes out in June.
  19. Crossposted from my Latin translation speed thread: We are strongly considering letting her be done with Latin after this year. She is overstretched and we need to give her breathing room. Even though she will have to start over with Latin in college. Sigh... She will have many AP (hopefully!) and dual enrollment credits to lighten her collefe course requirement load. I am hoping to count her 8th grade First and Second Form Latin as an Intro to Latin high school level course on her transcript, not towards her gpa. (Memoria Press has a high school online course covering First and Seond in one year). So her transcript shows she has 3 years of Latin. Any thoughts on that idea? Where would I place this on her year by year transcript? Edited to add: my daughter said a better option would be Excelabilty in Latin with extra reading and REA Latin SAT2 guide for Latin 3 to self study National Latin exam 3 and SAT2.

  21. yes, I know. I updated in #10 about my concerns for her workload. I hope to rectify it with a more manageable load next year...
