  1. Went to Baylor and love Waco! I think Chip and Joanna Gaines are rehabbing Waco's national reputation all on their own.
  2. I write thank you notes with Chick fil a or Target gift cards. I figure teacher's get a lot of crafty gifts and want to give something useful and uncluttery.
  3. Thank you. It is a Tab 2, not a phone. The only way I know to install updated firmware is through Kies. Every time I connected the tablet it would reboot and disconnect the connection. No go. I think it is dead.
  4. Yes. That is a hard reset. It reboots immediately after I push erase data/factory settings and doesn't finish the process.
  5. It kept me up all night until I hid it downstairs. It won't stop rebooting. It lets me get online for about 45 seconds or to settings etc but won't let me complete a task before rebooting. I even tried a factory reset in settings and a hard reset but it reboots before I can complete the process. I installed Kies on my desktop but it reboots and disconnects the connection over and over before I can update the firmware or trouble shoot. My last ditch effort is to hide it downstairs so the battery can wear way down. Then, in a couple days, charge it while turned off. Any other ideas?
  6. I am doing this with my son but using easier texts for now. Next year world history 1600-present with K12 Human Odyssey 2 & 3. Outlining - grading content and speed based on my master outlines. Chapter quizzes - homemade with variety of fill in the blank, multiple choise, matching and free response questions. Unit tests are all frqs. I am slowly working my way through next years outlines and quizzes, but I think this will prepare him. I would rather teach the skills and study habits with easier textbooks at this point. I tried Spielvogel Human Odyssey, but it was intense for 8th grade. Btw, my daughter gave input on my plan based on her experience with AP Psych and AP Gov this year. The very detailed chapter tests were a bugaboo for her until she got used to it.
  7. I will look for the middle school Zaner Bloser. I googled for adult workbooks. Not having a lot of luck. She doesn't need to copy letters 1000x!
  8. My rising 11th grade daughter's handwriting looks like chicken scratch! She only writes manuscript, which slows down notetaking. She had several years of cursive as a kid but never used it in her daily life. Would you encourage her to go through a cursive workbook this summer? She is very involved in community aervice and maintains a 4.0 with difficult courses through her sophmore year. She plans to test prep for the new PSAT this summer bc her previous score was very disappointing. Would you emphasize this? What style or workbook would you recommend for a teen to use to gain legibility and speed?? (I think it is important for brain retention to take notes by hand instead of typing.)
  9. She feels confident she did at least as well on her practice tests! On to studying for Latin final and AP US Gov!
  10. My daughter is using Excelabilty in Latin, working on translating speed all summer and auditing Lone Pine Latin 3 fall semester. She will take Sat2 in Dec and NLE3 in March. She had a 98 in Lukeion Latin 1 an a lower and lower a each sem in Latin 2. She said she has to build speed so that is what we will try!
  11. My daughter went to charter school for AP Psych and test coordinator ordered her a LATE TEST! She is in PAH class and completed 2 weeks review with 5s on practice tests. I seriously had a meltdown- not so visible but shaking. How many emails and even coming in 2x to be sure we were good to go! Anyhow. Someone didn't show up and she got to take their test. Her answer key info was filled out 2 weeks ago. I can't wait for her to come out and tell me how it went. She was so upset while we waited for all test takers to come. OF COURSE the homeschooled was the only order screw up. She has govt next week but I double checked the office computer to be sure they didn't mess it up again....
  12. I saw this on FB and the news! Congrats and best wishes recording all this publicity!
  13. My son was diagnosed days after his 4th bday. I also have an oldest son with profound disabilities and medically fragile and another with autism. Type 1 in my youngest was the biggest shock and surprised everyone I knew that it was the biggest stress and learning curve I have ever faced. Major hugs!!! It eventually becomes second nature and they eventually take over their own care and do it well. You can ask more questions, have to go. But wanted to offer compassion, support and hugs!! My son has been involved in rec sports since 5yo including travel baseball since 10yo. Pitcher and catcher, so usually active all weekend. He has done great. Edit: I just read your whole post and saw your husband has it too. That helps that transition some. Bless your family! **Best online support http://forums.childrenwithdiabetes.com/forum.php

  15. Do you think a 9th grader could handle the Coursera class? Or should I hope it is available in 2 yrs? He did Fallacy Detective and Thinking Toolbox in 6th and 7th. Easy...

  19. My 17yo with special needs is off school for spring break. His Lego Batman 3 ps3 has a Heroes and Villianesses free dlc downloaded but it won't show up now in his map. He is super frustrated ! edited- Online playstation support chat worked!
  20. I bought Microsoft Office Students Teachers 2003 cd. We have installed it on 3 home pc: 1 desktop and 2 laptops. Sometimes it isn't compatible with online class documents. Microsoft doesn't sell the physical cd anymore? What is the best deal for students/teachers multiple home computers? Is by the year the only option? Should I keep using Office 2003? Do some laptops come Office included?
  21. I used to want my bright daughter to aim for top schools. Now she wants to major in special education and I don't have to worry about that! On to safeties and scholarships!!
  22. I lost 75 lbs 7 years ago and kept it off. Paleo. I decided to lose the last 35-45 lbs and I am now 20 lbs away from college weight. This time I am eating Primal/ketogenic/calorie counting. I am planning next on joining a gym with a personal trainer to learn to lift weights. I think once I build muscle I can maintain with Primal and occasional cheat/more carb day (like 1-2x month). I am insulin resistant from years of iv steroids and obesity. I don't mind "low carb/ food as medicine" for a lifetime! I don't an on gaining any back. :)
