  1. If she whips through them quickly she might enjoy the annotated editons by David Shapard. My daughter loves them! http://www.amazon.com/Annotated-Sensibility-Paperback-Author-Shapard/dp/B00EDYXHBS/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1393675587&sr=1-2&keywords=sense+and+sensibility+annotated+david+shapard
  2. I have a 16yo son with mod intellectual disabilities and autism in school after being homeschooled through elementary. We tried the program for mild id last year. It was a nightmare. He is doing great in a self contained class for mod id with many peer helpers each period for inclusion. They have DAILY reading, handwriting, life skills instruction plus fantastic science and social studies units. Weekly field trips and jobs training. He gets to stay through age 22 because of his birthday. I hope I can find a day program/job for him after that. His life is so enriched through this class. Our summers together a pretty awesome - but he needs LOTS of structure.
  3. She will take Pre AP Eng in 10, AP Eng Lang in 11th, AP Eng Lit in 12th.
  4. Good plan! I emailed back and forth with one of the teachers yesterday, and she recommended AP Human Geo before AP Euro.
  5. Thanks, my daughter says she has enough time to read Human Odyssey vol 3 and finish American Odyssey this year. That can be a strongish 9th grade credit for US and World History 1400-Present. For 10th, her social studies credits will be AP US Gov and AP Psych (as mentioned above). Thanks everyone!
  6. Ok what about the K12 Human Odyssey vol 2 used in 9th grade alongside American Odyssey. Does that text look weak for course description?? It is an 8th grade text. Edited. She decided to read Human Odyssey vol.3 and complete American Odyssey this schoolyear for a strong 9th grade credit.
  7. Thanks. Do you think it is ok even for a 10th grader?
  8. We decided not to apply for AP Euro after reading the course description and application. I don't think she would get in. We will try for 12th. This is what we have planned instead: Chalkdust Algebra 2 Pre AP English -Aim with CLE Eng light units plus Modern Lit w/mom Modern US and World History w/mom Lukeion Latin 2 AP US Gov AP Psych Chemistry w/ Dive and BJU I am concerned bc all I have planned for history is to finish American Odyssey and read the 3rd volume of Human Odyssey (which I think is a middle grade textbook). She had Early Modern US World History this year for 9th grade (using the first half of American Odyssey and book 2 of Human Odyssey). Would that look bad on her course description? She is taking an AP "social studies" during the same 10th grade year, so I thought a lighter history course is ok. I mostly want the modern history to correlate with her modern lit class. Any advice?
  9. Edited... We decided against applying for 10th.
  10. My children both say say homeschool only through 5th for academic edge and habit training. Then quality private schools. We tell them to plan their education and career goals to pay for pricey tuition for multiple kids!! My son also add that he would never talk his wife into homeschooling unless she really wanted to do it herself, bc it is too hard on moms. Lol.
  11. I didn't know Chalkdust published assignments until my poor daughter did all odd problems. I found it with my son and it makes a more pleasant experience! We watch dvd and do review problems day 1 and assignments day 2. I schedule 2 sections per week so we have a built in catch up day or time for mid chapter quiz. On test weeks I schedule only chapter review and test with an occasional cumulative test. Using this method, all 10 chapters are spaced over 36 weeks nicely with breathing room for review and catch up as needed. http://www.chalkdust.com/assignments.html Hth.
  12. Any reviews? My daughter is also singing up for AP Euro with Gloria Harrison (great reviews) AP US Gov with Julia Reed (different thread bc I didn't see reviews)
  13. I think the is her first year for US Gov but she taughter AP Comp Gov last year. I am thrilled she chose a paper textbook instead of the online one they used last year. My daughter is also signing up for AP Euro with Gloria Harrison (great reviews) Thanks!
  14. Preferably free or inexpensive! I know of Hewitt, how are the helps and how do you access? I have read about CK-12 but don't understand how it works. Any advice about those courses or others? My daughter wants to double major in communication disorders and elementary ed. Science plan: 9th Dive Bio w/Bju 10th Dive Chem w/ Bju 11th AP Environmental 12th one semester dual enrollment lab science, probably Bio w/ Conceptual Physics at home
  15. I words and games: http://www.sadlier-oxford.com/vocabulary/levels_a2h.cfm?sp=family Practice tests: http://www.vocabtest.com/vocabulary_workshop/ I scheduled this out for books A & B word lists for the rest of the school year. If successful, we will continue on with the free online helps instead of purchasing all the workbooks and teacher manuals.
  16. My brief overview of common core is that the philosophy for lit is utilitarian, so I thought that might influence vocab study. That may be wrong but I want to see how CC pans out before I buy aligned curricula. http://www.crisismagazine.com/2014/how-common-core-devalues-great-literature I may just use I- words lists and games with practice tests. I don't want to spend so much money on teacher manuals just for vocab, and I am not willing to put in the time to make sure all answers for the higher levels f, g, h are correct. I think with I-words, Direct Hits books, and Latin, he should be ok.
  17. Summer: Material Logic World Geograohy, Glencoe with workbook (finish) 10th grade: Pre AP English Aim Academy Modern Lit with me using novels and Scott Foresman British and US Lit Chalkdust Algebra 2 Dive Chemistry with BJU text Lukeion Latin 2 AP Psych AP Euro AP US Gov Going to be a tough year for humanities. I won't make her write for lit since she has the Pre AP class, just read and discuss. She finds Dive and Chalkdust incredibly easy, though they take time. So that helps.
  18. That is how I read it. Fun concept...
  19. Blue Tent uses Abeka Grammar/Comp which I have never seen. My son is solid in gramma, but I think he could benefit from another aporoach besides CLE for one year - AG and Abeka are good too. I think the decision boils down to the fact that he wants a live class - so Potter's School has the edge...Blue Tent looks good too so it is hard to decide.
  20. I thought... APUSH and USGov AP Euro and Comp Gov but we have to reverse the histories bc of changes to AP tests. I want to wait a year until the new APUSH scores are released to buy study guides etc. I also thought AP Art History went with Euro but my daughter decided it was too much memory work. Next year for 10th, she is taking AP Psych, AP Euro, AP US Gov. I looked at our local private high school test site schedule and they are offered on separate days. The most important consideration!
  21. My daughter has it. Sometimes even touching cold granite in the morning and when eating extremely cold slushies. She is covered in hives with cold weather exposure. Her allergist prescribed an epi pen for camping and temp changes. Even in summers, the streams and rivers up in tbe mountains are cold. He also said living in very cold climates would not be suitable for her, so it affects college choices down the road.
  22. I am considering just using the website I-words lists for levels A & B for 7th grader. I will purchase levels C-H. 1. Do I want 2005 edition or 1996? I do NOT want the new Common Core edition. 2. Reliable link to online answer key?
