Feedback on 9th grade course descriptions?
LNC replied to LNC's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
If you message me your email address I will send them to you as attachment. I would appreciate any feedback, good or bad. I got paranoid bc I had 58 views and no comments, so I took them down! -
Help with question on Iowa practice test gr 7? :)
LNC replied to LNC's topic in General Education Discussion Board
B. I think RootAnn missed the word "least", but thanks for that link. Good explanation. Because? *numbers are closest together *the difference between largest and smalles numbers in set is the smallest both apply to B. -
Which set of numbers shows the least variability? A. {2,4,6,10} B. {2,3,5,7} C. {3,9,18,27} D. {3,7,8,16} Does this mean difference between largest and smallest number in set?

Questions about course descriptions
LNC replied to LNC's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
Ok I will write all the 9th grade ones now, but later organize them by subject. I think I will use isbns and textbook titles as well ad dvd instruction (Chalkdust, Traditonal Logic, DIVE) and online providers Lukeion and Laurel Tree. Do you eventually add the course description document somewhere on the Common Ap or send upon request? -
1. Organize by year or subject? 9th grade.... or English... then 4 English classes 2. I am making our course descriptions brief (like a paragraph). We read a TON out of Scott Foresman's England in Lit and US in lit. Our reading list is 3 pages small font worth of poems, excerpts, shorts stories, drama etc. Should I list the genres and then the 5 novels studied in depth? This is for an Honors English 1 credit - which also include Laurel Tree Tutorials High School Composition and a grammar component.

Foster parents.....taking vacation with the kids? Babysitters?
LNC replied to ChristusG's topic in The Chat Board
Yes ask. We took our foster daughter 10 months to the beach. We got the ok from the social worker, but I wanted to also ask her teen mom bc she would have to miss a visit opportunity. I will never forget the young mom's face light up and she reached out to her baby and said "I've never seen the ocean." It still makes me cry to think of it. We took dozens of photos of our foster daughter posed at the beach, in front of palm trees, and on a boat tour etc. Her mom was so happy to have the photo album. Kind of a long way to say permission from a social worker is one thing, but considering the birthmother's needs is also important. -

I am looking everywhere for 100% cotton with a touch of spandex LONG knit tops. Whenever I buy a Land's End or Eddie Bauer tee, I shrink them in the dryer by mistake. I bought 4 tunic tees from Denim & Co. I liked a lot of their stuff online - not too trendy & cotton fabrics. I hate shopping and buy clothes all online. Any reviews on quality?

I bought Introductory Logic by Creighton for $3.50 postage paid after viewing on archive.org. Any other recommendations?

My daughter did 6th FallacyDetective 7th Thinking Toolbox 8th Traditional Logic 1 9th Traditional Logic 2 I am thinking about skipping TL with my rising 8th grade son bc of time constraints. Piano practice and baseball take up so much of his time. I think we need that extra 45-60min a day for the basics next year. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good overview book for an 8th-10th grader. NOT a full program like MP or CAP. I am thinking a used textbook like Introduction to Logic by Copi, and just reading selected chapters. Any other ideas?? The simpler the better!!

9th grade English class as prep for PA AP English?
LNC replied to yvonne's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
I signed my daughter up for the Pre Ap English class bc I think they will grow and change from any negative reviews and feedback received. Debra Bell certainly knows what she is doing and the teachers have solid credentials. I think it will be ok. I don't prefer student peer reviews or projects, but I will remain optimistic. :) -
I'm so sorry and sad for you.

Please help! Have to order used cell phone just for wireless use.
LNC replied to LNC's topic in The Chat Board
I bought an unlocked Samsung with 4g and wifi. I hope it works. The one before was an HTC older model that must have been filled with apps I couodn't delete without "rooting" as explained above... I don't want an ipod touch bc he loses or drops in toilet every 6 months!! The Samsung was $50, which hurt enough!! -
My 16yo special needs son lost his 2nd used cell phone. He just uses them like a cheap ipod touch - Pandora, youtube, look at calendar etc. The last one we bought on Ebay had NO SPACE on it - wouldn't let us uninstall apps and make room for Instagram etc. How do I find a used phone that he can just use in wireless areas, no cell plan? With space, capability to uninstall apps we don't want and install new apps. Can you give me an idea of what specs to search for? We want space for youtube, pandora, instagram, calendar, internet, spotify and that is it basically. Most inexpensive ones have no room. Thanks!!

Parents of Type 1 Kids-Is This Normal Procedure for Your Endo?
LNC replied to RebeccaS's topic in The Chat Board
My son's office us extremely responsive. We also have check ups 4x a year, so prescriptions, a1c, labs, pump issues etc are kept up on. -
Lukeion/Wheelocks vocabulary is different than Forms, so that is great your son did so well on entrance test. I had my daughter start Lukeion 1 in 9th after First and Second Form. Amy Barr recommended my 7th grader mature before starting Lukeion, so he took Latin Alive 1 this year. He found LA1 much more intense than Forms. HTH.

10th grade plan - open for criticism ;)
LNC replied to Ann.without.an.e's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
Maybe trim to World Lit in context (to add a lt history as you study chronologically)? 2 APs plus history is a lot of hours... -
