  1. The audio is just poems/short stories - they won't learn any grammar rules from just the audio.
  2. I like doing both... I buy the printed copy (I like to read out of a "real" book) as well as the pdf file of the student pages. We don't write in the books (that way they should still look decent in a few yrs for my younger 2) & we print as we go for the student pages - it will save us $ in the long run hopefully :)
  3. That's frustrating... However as ppl have mentioned you will need to pay for a retainer (her teeth will start shifting right away if she doesn't use one) so keep the braces on until you can afford it.
  4. Thanks for sharing, I really enjoyed reading your blog post! Looking forward to reading about Day 2 :)
  5. I use France24's live feed, they're doing a special on the election: http://www.france24.com/en/livefeed (nice to hear a variety of accents too :P)
  6. Yikes!! Yep it all sounds familiar - I went through the same cancellation steps. I can't believe what I thought was a reputable company is treating customers this way :001_huh: Thanks for the link, it's good to know I'm not the only one fuming about a refund lol.
  7. I'm kind of annoyed right now... I signed up to TeacherFile back in August and quickly noticed it wasn't for us as it was crazy time consuming. I signed up to save money on buying multiple Evan Moor books I wanted from them but it turned out I had to search/print only 2 pages at a time and I was still missing pages as the search results was useless. I cancelled within the 3 day period they say you have for the trial via my online account - everything looked like it was cancelled, I even checked my bank account and noticed I hadn't been charged yet so I thought it was all good. Until earlier today, I checked my bank statement and noticed they've been charging me for the past 3 months  Now I know I'm too blame for not checking sooner but heck I trusted them... I emailed & called them and they are willing to only refund me for 2 months instead of 3  Surely since I cancelled within the 3 day trial I should be getting a full refund so I don't agree with them. They're saying since I logged in and printed materials (during those 3 trial days) then they are charging me for that month. I find it pretty outrageous and I remember someone else mentioning they'd had problems with them too - does this happen often? Any ideas as to how I can get a full refund? I don't have any emails to prove I cancelled my account which is annoying but surely they can see I never used my account after those 3 days.
  8. It sounds more like a typical First Grader's LA curriculum so if she's not advanced in writing I wouldn't start FLL & WWE for another year and just keep doing OPGTR with lots of reading.
  9. ^ be careful with that offer "Then, about once a month, we will send you an email letting you know when the next DVD in the series is scheduled to ship. If you want it, there's nothing for you to do. You'll receive a new Learn Our History DVD for just $11.95 plus $3.95 s&h billed conveniently to your credit card. " Thanks OP for the unit study :)
  10. It might be worth emailing them and asking if they could send you a list of the companies they distribute this set of books to.
  11. I found it to be a complete pain and unsubscribed. You can't save files so it's a lot of printing. Their books have been split up in different files so if you're looking for the content of one specific book you have to waste a load of time searching for the right files in the right order. For example to print their "Beginning Geography K-2" book I had to find 37 different files to print (which takes ages as you need to: search, read results, re-search as results didn't come up with the bit you're looking for, re-read results, open link, print the file, start process over 36 more times) :001_huh: it's very time consuming. eta: forgot to add that you'll also need to know what keywords you're searching for as just the title of the book won't get you all the right files, so you'll also need to research the names of all the chapters/sections for the particular book you're trying to print (ex. again with Beg. Geo. keywords would be "Hills and Mountains" then "Islands and Volcanoes" etc) - they don't make that easy for you either...
  12. From what I've read they're planning to do 8 volumes in all (releasing a new one about every 10mths or so). They expect each volume (18 chapters) to take half a school year to complete.
  13. We may not qualify as a "family already well into homeschooling" but we've completed AAS1 and now using ASS2. Best thing - my son gets excited every single day when it's spelling time (I thought his enthusiasm would die over time but nope!) Worst thing - price...
  14. We've only used it at Kindergarten level so I'm not sure how it is with the higher grades; so far it's super repetitive (which could be good for a child who's struggling in math). Keep in mind it doesn't teach; it's very much just supplemental exercises. The animations are all very cute & my DD is always asking to "play on Dreambox".
  15. I ended up just purchasing the PDF file of the student pages for $9.50 http://www.welltrainedmind.com/store/student-pages-1-for-writing-with-ease-pdf.html that way I can keep the book in front of me for reference/reading and I print out DS's pages as we need them (& store his work in a binder). It was the best option financially too as I'll be able to use it all again with my 2 daughters w/o any extra cost :D
  16. I wouldn't take any chances (seeing as though she's had a headache & vomited) and just go now.
  17. We just bought the basic kit & the box (which is worth the extra $ imo!).
  18. ^ same as IXL; there's no instruction
