  1. We tried Beast Academy right after finishing MM2 and found that he wasn't ready for it. We ended up doing MM3 first then tried Beast Academy again and it went much smoother and still challenged him.
  2. I'd recommend Boden, they have a lovely range! You can't find their brand in shops but their online returns are easy to do.
  3. For some reason I wasn't receiving notifications from this thread, sorry for the late replies! From what I've read in reviews it seems that most families just get one license to share, I'm glad it's working out with 3 kids :) Plum District is a daily deal site just like Groupon except that the deals are aimed at moms. You do have to sign up to their website to buy the deals, however you don't need to enter any bank card details when you register - only when you purchase a deal. I was hesitant to get my son started on Minecraft too but overall I'm glad we went ahead with it. It is an addictive game so we set expectations right away: we use a timer and he only uses it three times a week. This seems to work and we've managed to avoid tantrums so far, maybe it could work for your son too? I wanted to keep it educational so we started with Minecraft Homeschool classes, however it lacked instruction... it basically just gives you a theme to work with every week. Ds's only just started the Mod Design course but so far it seems awesome, everything is clearly explained and the fact he's creating Minecraft mods highly motivates him to learn Java. I'm not sure he would have had any interest in learning to code at his age without the Minecraft theme tbh.
  4. I'm totally jealous, this sounds awesome!! I'm keeping our summer goals list short, otherwise it simply won't get done lol. With DS I want to finish up SOTW2 along with the activity guide as we are....hmmm... 15 weeks behind schedule. I've enrolled him in Athena Academy's SOTW3 online class for the fall to make sure we actually stay on track next year. And with my DD I want to finish AAR2 (we're not even half way through yet) and work on her handwriting so she's ready for school in the fall... (her decision, sniff sniff).
  5. For those of us who missed the sale back in April: the deal is back on!! It's through Plum District again (same as Groupon basically): http://t.co/ChhilL6QwZ (this is my ref link that takes you directly to the deal). It's $149 for a one year subscription to their Youth Digital's Online Mod Design 1 Course (RRP $249), for ages 8-14. There's been several threads here with great reviews :D Also, it looks like you once you've purchased the deal you don't have to activate your account until December (so you don't have to waste 3mths of your subscription now if you're not using it during the summer break for example). There's an intro video here: http://player.vimeo.com/video/78927400 and their website is: http://www.youthdigital.com/mod-design-1.html The deal ends on June 10th . Now extended to June 17th! Update: there's an additional promo code for 20% off celebratesummer2014
  6. Checkout their websites/facebook pages etc, the best way is to give them a try though so attend one of their events and see how it goes.
  7. My DS used Dance Mat Typing, it's free & he really enjoyed it: http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/typing/
  8. Thanks for sharing, I hope it reaches the 40%! We love Mind Benders, Balance Math & More, and Editor in Chief. We've also used Building Thinking Skills which is also good but not exactly *fun* compared to their other books.
  9. It's in The Sirens of Surrentum, I haven't read them but some people have commented about the sexual content in their reviews: http://www.amazon.com/The-Sirens-Surrentum-Roman-Mysteries/product-reviews/B0044KMVW2/
  10. Today's the last day to back her second book on Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/breadpiginc/great-adaptations-a-childrens-book-about-evolution
  11. I've fixed the link, think it messed up as I'd originally copied/pasted it from facebook.
  12. Found this pretty neat: Rinkidinks It includes a free ebook (which can also be downloaded as a PDF) & includes a lesson plan with worksheets. The author is currently working on another book, info on NPR: http://www.npr.org/blogs/13.7/2014/03/10/288656421/
  13. If at all possible I'd highly recommend Invisialign instead... it's much quicker, less painful, less visible. If you shop around you can find them for around $2800 for the whole treatment which includes retainers (look on Groupon for example, you can call the dentists directly and see if they'd do the same price directly through their offices so that you can use your insurance too - that's what I did :P).
  14. I've never seen an option for online registration, we registered using the form Quark posted.
  15. A different documentary - but I also highly recommend watching The Cove (dolphins). You can view it online too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KRD8e20fBo
  16. Nope, only the entire book contains the lesson plans.
  17. This PDF is the entire book (lessons + student pages): http://peacehillpress.com/history-geography/activity-book-1-revised-edition-the-story-of-the-world-ancient-times-pdf-download/ And this PDF only includes the student pages: http://peacehillpress.com/history-geography/student-pages-vol.-1-revised-edition-pdf-download/ It sounds like you wanted to purchase the entire book in PDF form, you might want to contact Peace Hill Press to explain you bought the wrong item.
  18. Alfred's Kids Guitar Course - worked great with my son. http://www.amazon.com/Guitar-Course-Complete-Enhanced-Alfreds/dp/0739058894
  19. Last year it was 30% off everything if I remember correctly.
  20. We haven't used the online classes so this is probably not going to help much, but my son did have Cybershala's owner as a JrFLL leader last year and I highly recommend her. She's a very nice lady, patient, and great at keeping the kids engaged.
  21. New American Cursive. Book 1 is secular, as for book 2 you have the option of a secular version and a scripture one.
  22. ^ same here. We aim for one step a week but we did get through Level 1 faster.
  23. Disney Nature documentaries are great too. They also have free activity & educational guides available on their website.
  24. We use Dance Mat Typing: http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/typing/ It's free and my son loves it.
