  1. You can also find lesson plan ideas on their Yahoo Group page http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/MCTLA/conversations/messages. Once you've joined, click on "More", "Files" then "Lesson Plans".
  2. Building Thinking Skills, Balance Math & More, Mind Benders.
  3. Last call out: the fall session starts the week of September 16th (and they're still offering the 50% lifetime discount) :)
  4. My kids' favorite apps: Brainpop Jr, Dragon Box (both versions), Stack the States, Math BINGO (by divmob), and my younger girls also enjoy Starfall Learn to Read.
  5. My shopping cart currently has (though it's more like a Wishlist...): Intelliglobe Deluxe Draw Write Now, Book 1-8 ThinkFun Solitaire Chess ROCK ON! Geology Game & Rock Collection Ant Farm Revolution Liberty's Kids - The Complete Series
  6. We have the 5+ and love it. My 7yr old completed it in a couple days (I was hoping it would last longer) but my 5yr old is still slowly working on it - she keeps on having to start from scratch as she forgets the rules...
  7. Easy Peasy is free and can get you started: http://allinonehomeschool.com/
  8. We use Hannah's Homeschool Helps too http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Hannah_hs_helps/
  9. We like the Moving Beyond the Page literature units; we're using Charlotte's Web atm. I don't know if you'd class it as above grade level though. If you're looking for simpler things you might just want to google "discussion ideas (book title)", "comprehension questions (book title)" to make your own mini lit guides for free. Some books also have their own websites with free teacher's guides that can be helpful.
  10. I'd recommend using a French curriculum written for francophone kids instead of materials written for kids learning French as a 2nd language. We enjoyed the CNED, you can do just French or you can pick other subjects along with it too. It includes online activities for pretty much every lesson: http://www.cned.fr/scolaire/ecole or Hattemer http://www.hattemerdistance.com/net/fonctionnement_primaire.php?strMenu=smenu3_2
  11. This was just announced on their Facebook page: "Now through July 29th, You can literally "Pay What You Want" on over 4,000 homeschool resources at CurrClick!" http://www.currclick.com/cclick_pwyw.php Does anyone have any publishers recommendations? I'm tempted by the "CRAFT Kits in a Bag ebooks" by Activity Bag.
  12. We use both. I like having a physical copy of the book for my DS to read & learn the spelling of new words he comes across (countries, rulers etc). The CDs have been useful for review, on long road trips etc. If I could only have one I'd pick the book, you can always check your library to see if they have the CDs. Everything written in the books is on the CDs apart from the photos/maps, the maps are in the activity book though.
  13. I plan on using Song School Latin with my 2nd grader.
  14. You don't *really* need the student packet. It includes the flashcards which you can make yourself (what is written on these cards is also written in the parent guide). The student packet also includes 5 (I think?) little tokens but you could use little objects like coins for that. You can easily make your own progress chart & certificate. You could also make your own letter tiles, it's just time consuming. The CD is only useful if you're not sure of the sounds yourself - though you can probably find a youtube video or something to teach yourself. Basically you should be fine with just the teacher's guide :)
  15. We're not there yet but plan on moving over to MCT. From previous threads I think the popular answer was Rod and Staff 5.
  16. Review written by another family in my son's Chessology class: http://craftknife.blogspot.com/2013/07/chess-classes-from-chessology-will.html It's more detailed than my quick recommendation :)
  17. There's an online directory of secular materials that will probably help : http://www.secularhomeschool.com/content/217-secular-homeschool-curriculum/
  18. Spreading the word: Chessology is now offering classes to homeschoolers (& they are currently offering a lifetime 50% discount). My son was a beta-tester and loved the program. Coach Ian is very energetic and awesome at keeping the kids' attention. "The logistics of the program are as follows: A one hour weekly class. We cover all levels of game play from beginner to advanced tactics and strategies. Ages 5 and up are welcomed Classes are streamed in 1080P HD for maximum clarity. We touch on conflict resolution, critical thinking, algebra and meta-cognition. Classes are presently discounted 50% off at $60 per three month session of one hour weekly classes. 19. from their faceboook page: " If you are not able to get through for your free subscription today using code freemagazine (http://www.hedua.com/magazine), please email customerservice@hedua.com. They will submit your request by hand over the next couple weeks before the new issue ships. See, they've got your back! Please remember, this is for NEW U.S. subscribers only. Thanks for your patience!"
  20. That's what we used alongside SOTW 1 and we found it great. I got my copy from http://www.rainbowresource.com/proddtl.php?id=018005
  21. If your daughter will be attending a brick-and-mortar school for Kindergarten then I strongly recommend you stick to crafts/arts & read alouds over the summer. The problem if she gets too ahead of the class (in reading and maths) then she's likely to be super bored in Kindergarten. That's just from my experience. If you plan on doing extras throughout the year then I recommend you checkout the After Schooling section of the forum.
  22. It would work on your computer through the Kindle app (http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?ie=UTF8&docId=1000426311) but it won't work on your Nook as far as I know.
  23. I'd contact RightStart - they may have dealt with this kind of situation in the past and could have some advice to offer. Or if u're really lucky they may send you another copy...
  24. Currclick is hosting a free "Can't Make it to Convention" event from June 24th-29th. It sounds pretty good :) "Can't make it to a homeschool convention this summer?
