  1. :lurk5: I've purchased TWJ (currently reading), PW and some old Arrows... and I already own MCT Island (my DS is loving Grammar Island atm). I also already love FLL & WWE so I don't know how I'm going to make it work yet :S Ugh!! If you plan on purchasing Brave Writer you might want to have a look on Homeschool Buyers Co-op as they have some great deals (that was my excuse...)
  2. I second the DORA and ADAM tests. You can purchase them from the Homeschool Buyers Coop at a reduced rate: $15 (each) for the first test and $12 for additional tests (to be used by a different student or by the same student at a later time).
  3. Ooh I had no idea there was a language option - thanks for sharing! Shame they don't offer a French option; they only have Spanish or Brazilian Portuguese.
  4. I think you'll get more responses posting on their forum http://www.movingbeyondthepage.com/forum/ or emailing them directly for advice (we've always had great customer service from them). We use the already printed curriculum (so we don't have any sheets to print) along with basic spiral notebooks. We store projects in a folder, if it's something big in size (posters etc) I take a photo and store them in an album on my computer (I could print them to add to the folder but that would involve more effort lol).
  5. These are the ones we've tried: Math IXL - allows you to work on any chosen subject but doesn't teach. I find it great for drills. Khan Academy - teaches but it can be a bit dry for younger kids & there aren't sufficient early elementary maths videos. I use them for introductions to new topics (if a video on the subject is available). Dreambox - you won't be able to pick and choose what to work on, there's a lot of repetition (can be frustrating to some kids), it's "cute" and appealing to young kids. They do a free 14 day trial so you could always give it a try. My 5yr old loves it. EPGY - again you can't choose what you want to work on, there's very little repetition so it's great for kids who understand concepts quickly, teaches and it's very straight to the point (not cutesy), moves fast.
  6. Ugh, I hope their leave is temporary! I ended up purchasing TWJ, some old Arrow issues and PW - I really hope we'll like BW!! I've been pondering about TWJ for the past few months so I'm glad I've finally gone ahead with it. I'll probably want Jot It Down and the Wand issues for my DD soon too but that's way too much spending for one night already...
  7. I think the key is to start with the basics then add on if you find you have the time. There's no point starting with a busy schedule as you'll quickly feel overwhelmed! Personally we do language arts & maths in the mornings (1-2hrs), then if the younger ones are being cooperative we'll attempt "extras" in the afternoon or on the weekends.
  8. It might just be the additional 600 points offer which ends. I haven't seen a post about HSBC no longer providing BW products - is it written somewhere?
  9. Our favorite by far is on "C'est pas sorcier" which is aired on France 3 http://c-est-pas-sorcier.france3.fr/ I need to buy the DVD collection at some point. It is aimed at older kids than mine so it would probably be good for your kids. France 3 has the most documentaries in general, though we haven't explored them yet http://programmes.france3.fr/documentaires/ There's probably better tv channels out there by now, I'm only familiar with TF1, France 2, France 3 and M6.
  10. It's in the email she sent out and on her website: coupon code MAY2013 for 25% off all products. HTH edit: guess I was too slow lol
  11. Don't forget to check your library or InterLibrary Loan :)
  12. We've only used the 6-8 Culture concept so far so I can't comment on the 5-7. So far my DS has really enjoyed MBtP so we'll be doing a 7-9 concept this summer. Have you seen the new 4-5 level that's being released in July? http://www.movingbeyondthepage.com/curriculum/age4to5.aspx They say it can be used for Preschool or Kindergarten level (aligned to Kindergarten Common Core). You can view a sample here http://www.movingbeyondthepage.com/samples/4-5-sample-curriculum-a-i-for-musk-ox.pdf My advise in any case would be to only purchase one concept to try it out first to make sure this curriculum style suits your little one.
  13. Actually a lot of ppl here supplement MCT with WWE. That's what we plan on doing next year :)
  14. I ordered an ebook on Critical Thinking with my $10 - no shipping fees so it worked out free :D
  15. I'm not sure about the CDs but as far as I know the CNED curriculum can only be purchased via http://www.cned.fr/scolaire/ecole It will probably be under "cours par matières."
  16. Have a look at what the kit contains - personally there wasn't much we didn't already have & I was able to find the items we were missing for cheap at Michaels.
  17. It's now hit the 30% off mark :D I've loved using Level 2 with my kids this year. I'm not the artsy type and art wasn't getting done 'til we started with Atelier. The supplies are cheap and easy to set up - then pop the DVD in and the kids just follow along :) The instructions are clear, the teacher demonstrates everything and they show different examples of other students projects too. It also comes with a teacher's manual (it's very detailed!) which we like to use as a quick reminder of a project's instructions when the kids want to re-do an old project. Overall I highly recommend it :D
  18. I just paid on on Mamapedia and I was done (no voucher to print/send off or anything). They will ask for the shipping address at checkout then it's all done automatically. I've done two other subscriptions through Mamapedia in the past and never had a problem :)
  19. Wow this thread is old but since it's been bumped here's for future refence: I'm not sure about full audiobooks but for those seeking foreign music/stories on MP3s: I've noticed in the past that when I wanted to purchase a French MP3 on amazon.fr (ie: the kids love Henri Dès), I was able to search for the title on amazon.com and purchase it directly from there even though they're in French. So it's worth checking amazon.com (if you live in the US) for foreign MP3s.
  20. I've seen a few threads in the past asking for recommendations for magazine subscriptions - well this is an awesome one! My kids love this magazine so I'm thrilled to see it at such a bargain price! Basically it's an educational magazine that covers science, history, geography, reading etc. It's aimed for ages 7-12, my younger ones love "reading" through it too though as they contain great photos. The $10 deal is for a one year subscription (12 issues) on Mamapedia: http://deals.mamaped...scover-magazine You can see old issues samples on their website: http://www.kidsdiscover.com/ and they also have Teacher resources which include free lesson plans :D
  21. Only half of my order made it, the rest was cancelled :(
  22. Alex et Zoe is aimed at kids age 7+ who are not fluent and the CNED starts with Grande Section Maternelle (Kindergarten age) so again he's probably too young for that too. I have no experience with Skoldo and Tatou le Matou so I can't comment on those. Personally we used Hattemer for Maternelle at that age http://www.hattemerdistance.com/net/accueil.php?strMenu=smenu1_1 It's aimed at children (& teachers) who are fluent in French. We did Maternelle 2 (there are 2 levels: Maternelle 1 & Maternelle 2 http://www.hattemerdistance.com/net/fonctionnement_maternelle.php?strMenu=smenu2_2 ) and my DD aged 4 at the time loved it. Everything was saved via PDF (I think can you opt to receive the physical books too) so that will make it easy to send them off by email to his grandma.
  23. Have you looked at this chart http://www.homeschoolart.com/choose-the-right-curriculum ? If she's never done an art curriculum then I'd start at Level 2 & if she has then start at Level 3. They basically go deeper in techniques/details as they move up a level. The curriculum you receive (DVDs and Parent Manual) are non-consumable so yes you can use the program with other children. HTH!
  24. AAR Pre-1 is fun! You could start at age 3 and skip the more "meaty parts" (lessons on rhyming / syllables) and come back to them later if he's not ready for them yet. We're using it with a 5yr old, she knows all her sounds and basic CVC words but she's learning quite a bit from those meatier sections so it's working great for her. I'll start my youngest on it when she's 3 at a more gentle pace :)
  25. When we used MM1 I found that using hands on materials like a Base 10 and an abacus useful for introducing new concepts. Online videos can be useful (there are basic adding/subtracting on Khan academy for example) and DVDs from your library could help (Leapfrog, School of Rock etc). More Starfall http://more.starfall.com/ was a fun supplement too (it was around $30 for the year I think).
