  1. I've started reminding my son that if he does not show his work I can't give him any help figuring out where he went wrong. Then I drop it. A few times of having to redo the whole problem has convinced him that writing it out is worth his time.
  2. I've accepted that there is a ton of people, places and things I know nothing about but there are some things I think every American should know. My husband has never lived down asking me what Benjamin Franklin did as president. :001_huh: His reasoning? He's on money so he must have been president. My little history major self almost passed out right there. Otoh, he does know more than I ever hope to learn about computers.
  3. I've tested both INTJ and INFP. I'm very introverted.
  4. He takes them at least once a week. They take turns picking where to go for dinner, get ice cream somewhere for dessert, and go to the Dollar Tree to spend a little of their allowance. I'm home for two and a half glorious hours alone.
  5. I'll take a look at FLL2 and 3. I'm sure after I look at samples it will become clear what would be better. The older two have been doing a typing program and I have been toying with th idea of having her do it, too. I don't want to make too many changes at once, though, or she might get overwhelmed. She is taking dance, art, and a science experiments class at our local co-op. She is in piano lessons and goes to a homeschool open gym at a local gymnastics place. She is in the choir and handbell choir at our church and also participates in Word of Life there. She is still bored. This child likes her life planned out for her. She spends her downtime irritating her siblings instead of playing with the hundreds of toys in the house. She needs to be challenged.
  6. Language Smarts looks good and adding in geography would be fun for her. Thanks for the suggestions!
  7. I guess I need to buy FLL 2 now. Your friend's plan for CLE seems like the best option for us. I asked her if she liked what we are doing in school. She said yes. I'm guessing it's because she doesn't have to work at it at all. I want to challenge her but not frustrate her.
  8. Thanks! I'll look into those. AAS would drive her nuts. It's perfect for my fourth grader, though. I do have all of the books for CLE. I'm afraid if we just skip whole books we'll miss something so I think I'm going to take the suggestion to do a few problems in each lesson to make sure she gets it. We will probably be in book 5 or 6 in no time. Is MEP on the computer? I'm not sure what that is but I've been looking for some math games to reinforce concepts for all of them. Would that work for a 4th and 5th graders, too?
  9. I know AAS. We use it for my fourth grader. What are LOE and WRTR?
  10. What spelling program would you recommend? I thought we should go over phonics some because she taught herself to read and I wanted to make sure she understood phonics. It seems like she does. School only takes 30 to 45 minutes for us to get through everything. I feel like we're not doing enough. I forgot to mention Mind Benders. We're working through that as well.
  11. Help! She's six and a half and has been in first grade for five weeks now. We're using Explode the Code(she's on book 2, lesson 46), FLL 1, CLE Math Grade 1(lesson 63), HWT Grade 1, NOEO Chemistry, and TOG Year 1. I feel like it's just busywork for the most part. History, science and handwriting are fine. FLL is moving slower than she really needs. She only has trouble in ETC when we get to the page where she has to spell the words and even then it's just one or two words with a double letter turned into a single. Math is so incredibly easy for her I'm not quite sure why we're doing it at all. Do I switch curriculums, grade level, speed up and rush through what we have until it is challenging for her, or??? Any ideas?
  12. When we went in April we went to World of Coke, the Georgia Aquarium, and Olympic Park all in the same day. We did not feel rushed at all.
  13. Two of my three students are done and have been for hours. My third has forgotten every math fact from first grade to third. Joy.
  14. This happens a lot with Katherine. I'll introduce her as Katherine and the person will say, "ah, Katie!" I just tell them they can call her that if they want but don't expect her to respond.
  15. I would be bothered by this, too. Our ex-church wanted to show the crucifixion scene from The Passion of Christ. I raised a stink about it. The kids were going to be in there for it and I didn't think it was appropriate.
  16. This may not apply but my six year old comes up with some of the silliest reasons for things. These reasons are never the real reason why she doesn't want to do something. I would assume there's more to it than having to smile. She's obviously feeling stressed and giving her a break might help her figure out how to tell you what's really going on. Then you can decide from there how to handle things.
  17. When we went we saw so much. I loved it! WWII Museum Cafe du Monde Laura Plantation Oak Alley Ghost tour of the French Quarter Tour of the Garden District (includes some graveyards) Eat some turtle soup somewhere. It was yummy. I'll post again if I think of more. Have fun!
  18. Same for me. I shower when the baby sleeps. He is being stubborn lately so I sometimes don't get him to sleep until bedtime.
  19. I can't really help with it not being fully charged but I wanted to let you know that my iPad says "not charging" every time I plug it in. It always charges anyway. So the fact that yours says that may mean nothing.
  20. We are purchasing a computer for the kids to use for school. We have a typing program but I'm not sure what else would be good. What software/websites do you find fun and educational for your children?
  21. One thing to check is how long you can have the loan. We were planning on doing this and found out the loan would go for ten years and no longer. Make sure it will actually be for twenty years.
  22. Jack gets called Zack. Anna gets called Hannah. But my biggest annoyance as far as names go is when I introduce Katherine as Katherine and people then proceed to call her Katie. That's not her name and she won't respond to it.
  23. I was checked with all my babies because there were inductions planned for each of them. Whether or not I was dilating made a difference in how my doctors wanted to proceed.
