  1. Anyone BTDT? LegoMan is a natural speller but now that we are into level five I feel like this would be a bad time to abandon it as he does need help spelling complex words. On the other hand, he doesn't need the sheer level of practice and reinforcement. We need the rules and the phonograms. Is there a good formula for condensing the content down? Is this the moment I should regret not having gone with LOE instead?
  2. 8's new writing program released yesterday: www.treasuredconversations.com
  3. Anyone know off the top of their head what the new website URL will be? I'm having issues with Yahoo groups and I'm not seeing anything on the publisher's website.
  4. I read it a while back and don't remember anything about CC.
  5. Exactly. I've gone with the "profoundly" add on a few times. It sure does make it simpler.
  6. I believe it's meant to take 9 weeks and I think that ends up being around two pages of problems a day.
  7. Could you take the money you'd spend on private school and get a babysitter or put her in daycare and then homeschool kindergarten in the evenings?
  8. Whoa. Well I can for sure keep Book Shark off my 'things to consider' list. Thanks for linking Courtney!
  9. I just used Grammar Revolution and it worked great for a crash course. HSBC was running a deal.
  10. I feel like it's a complete program and would have no issues using it on it's own...except for that tiny issue of the release schedule.
  11. Italian for sure. Take full advantage of the immersion. I'd be tempted though to speak only Spanish at home (or have one of you speak only Spanish and one English if you're worried about English regression) and then aggressively immerse them in Italian. Latin can wait.
  12. Depending on the state employing contractors can be a very dangerous game to play. If you can't clearly prove a number of requirements the fines usually add up quickly. I would let the IRS sort it out. If they are following the rules they'll be fine. If they aren't, that isn't your responsibility.
  13. I gave in and ordered LOF chem. He will love it and even if most of it is over his head, it never ceases to amaze me how much he absorbs (consequently the LOF Econ book seems to have been misplaced by mommy).
  14. We started the year 7/7 and I'm toying with 5-6 days a week until May 1st (we'd take maybe 3 days off for Thanksgiving, a week off for Christmas, and two 1-week periods off when I travel to two big conferences in Sept and March for work). May 1 until we finish we'd do a science project (a la Ruth) and probably do brief review each day of math and Latin to maintain our skills. Then whatever time we have left (probably 2 weeks) until the beginning of July we'd take a break.
  15. I found at that stage for sure we needed to do it almost everyday to really cement the phonograms and rules.
  16. 19 originals, another 118 written later plus 21 "special" books. Should keep him/her busy for awhile :)
  17. I'm listening to it for self ed as I commute to work. It is of course far more in depth and complex than SOTW. They also discuss murder, rape, etc. which would make me more wary with very young children. I would think maybe 12 and up for a typical kid?
