  1. What does that make you? Cool and skilled, I say! I wish I were more two-handed.
  2. Horton, that is messed up. I'm sorry that happened to your husband. (Why, oh why, can't I make this thing stop underlining!)
  3. Have some bean dip. :grouphug: (I don't know why it is underlining, and I can't make it stop. Dang it.)
  4. I think some unfortunate military personnel met with a self-promoter with a really aggressive agenda, and then said self-promoter told the internet he was consulted by the government, and now all the Public Affairs personnel are cussing up a blue streak. Religious bullying in the military is a huge abuse of power and an ethical breach. That should be obvious; I was taught that. When I was in the military myself, I was able to stop a few instances of abuse, and it was not common. However, the guy my Facebook friends are all scared by is a straight-up nut, in my ever-so-humble opinion. Wow, I feel snarky about this! But as a veteran, this kind of uninformed pot-stirring reporting makes me nuts.
  5. We love Music for Little Mozarts and began it around that age. It goes very slow, and is easy to teach a 4-6 minute "lesson" each day. We had fun listening to the CD (which is sold separately) but never used the "Activity Book" at all. All we use now is the lesson book. Good luck!
  6. I hope you've found threads with answers from Ellie. She's the rock star on Spalding. I think you can search by her name. :)
  7. I don't know anything yet about high school credit assessments, but have you guys read Carry On, Mr. Bowditch? That's what I think of when I see that topic! So inspiring. Your idea sounds like a neat study. I look forward to seeing answers to your question.
  8. I heard a smart guy say to call the landlord PRIOR to the most recent/current one for the truth. Their current landlord might be trying to move them out... into your property!
  9. We are loving Miquon. My kid is getting math and enjoying it!
  10. We use OPGTR, and though I don't usually read all the text now that we are half-way through the book and I'm comfortable with it, my daughter has started asking me, "What does THAT say?", pointing to the scripted lines! If I don't just read it to her, she now stops and reads the teacher's part to herself. I think she's checking up on me. Also, I guess she is really learning to read! :D
  11. I think that is a good question! :bigear:
  12. This board is SO informative! I'd never heard of a Creaclip! Off to google.
  13. We got a flat set of wooden rods first, and then had to buy the small group set of 155 because we needed 10 ten rods. You can't make 100 with only 4 tens. I got both on Amazon, I think. I wish I'd bought the larger set first!
  14. I made it through Don Quixote! Now I like it and am laughing over the jokes as I start my second pass. It is FULL of puns, slurs and wisecracks. However, I could understand starting somewhere else. It was a lot of work and took me about 6 months of erratic reading. I'd recommend SWB's History of the World books along with any other reading. I'm learning things every single chapter, and I was an undergrad history major. :o
  15. Wow! Sounds like you have some smart kitties. I'm glad they are ok.
  16. We are reading Farmer Boy as a read-aloud right now, so..... :tongue_smilie: I feel pretty lax in the chore assignment department. I second (or maybe third) the response, "Why do you ask?" Then smile and wait silently until they respond.
  17. No brilliant ideas for a fever other than the above, but when I'm trying to push fluids, I notice that my kiddo drinks more with a straw than just an open cup. I hope your daughter feels better soon, for your sake and hers!
  18. (Disclaimer: My kid is not super gifted but is bright... I just saw this and thought of her, too. For whatever this comment is worth....) I'm finding that praising my daughter for hard work is FAR more motivational to her than acknowledging her achievements. I read a book called Mindset by Carol Dweck which was recommended on the boards here and it changed my approach significantly. She loves to hear "Wow, that was hard, huh? You kept trying! Good for you. You are learning."
  19. I have removed asbestos tile in my own house while remodeling, and I was VERY careful and thorough with the process and the cleanup! I'd be livid in your shoes. Perhaps your brother was misinformed? I'm trying to leave room for doubt here... but I'd be really mad if I thought he was just using your guys for labor and deceived them. Man, oh man.
  20. Oh, I'm so sorry. That is rough!
  21. "Like" isn't quite it.... but you made me chuckle! I agree about the age. They are now capable of so much more than before, but seriously lack common sense.
  22. I also grew up with the KJV, and all my memorization was from KJV. I'm having my daughter do her memorization in it, too. However, I really like the Holmans CSB right now. The new translation slows me down and helps me get past my earlier impressions. It may or may not have an evangelical leaning in some of the word choices - I'd be interested in others' opinions on that. If you don't mind tearing up over a kids' Bible, try The Jesus Storybook Bible - it is so, so beautiful! :blush5:
