Unfortunately I can't figure out how to link. I did a google search with" earthworm dissection youtube" several choices. We picked the one by Macorganisms2. Really good. I actually was a bio major for a while. Never had the worm turn out that well! She has others. You can search by her when in youtube. Hers are mainly big things like a shark.

Sleep number bed question--King size
mumto2 replied to Ottakee's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Just wanted to add that you need go to a store and try one if possible. DH and I spent a couple of hours playing with them first. The staff was very patient with us. I was a huge skeptic. I had no intention of buying one but my back hurt a lot. I was newly pregnant and heading for a bedrest pregnancy -- I lost the baby eventually. DH begged me to let him buy the bed so that I would be comfortable. We have never looked back. We love select comfort. I really think you will know instantly if it feels like an air mattress to you. I was shocked that it didn't. -
It is a really fun core. We did it in 2004 so probably the same one.

I used to keep a couple of pairs of ballet flats in my desk drawer. That way I didn't have to wear boots all day. -

Sleep number bed question--King size
mumto2 replied to Ottakee's topic in General Education Discussion Board
We love our sleep number bed. Still in great shape after 11 years. I spend alot of time in the middle--I am a snuggler. It doesn't bother me but we sleep on similar settings--one 45 the other 50. -
We are also doing apologia biology. Dd14 and ds12--both with very different learning styles. I have found that the worksheets at the biologycorner.com are helpful. Non artist ds is able to label the parts and color. There are also dissection worksheets which I plan to combine with virtual labs on youtube. We are dissecting but with a group -- this way they keep moving.

How rose colored are your glasses?
mumto2 replied to Jean in Newcastle's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I think we a definately wearing rose colored glasses. Like you I had many friends along the way -- most were not long term. Some moved or I moved. Some went to different junior highs. Some changed (drugs and boys) along the way and I didn't as much. I really think my children's friendships are honestly not that much different from what my own were if I am honest. They don't function as part of a "pack" like in school but they do have a "best"friend who considers them to be the same and a few other friends for activities. I am only in touch with 5 childhood friends(defined as K through 12). One is Dh so I see him frequently. Other than him it is xmas cards and very occasional phone calls. It was that way before we left the US too. I did start home ed with one of these friends but when her dc went to public school our contact became far less. Our moms are best friends still and she is 4 years younger so she probably doesn't count as a school friend. Last week my mom had me busy googling " where are they now " for my school mates. We were having great fun until I discovered 2 girls who I really disliked growing up are living where I did before moving to the UK. One even goes to our old church. I had a panic attack -- then I calmed down because I am not moving back there ever. I could not believe that a 48 year old could be that upset because of an old tormenter. My mom could not believe that school was that bad for me -- I actually had a pretty active social life. I obviously was not as well adjusted as she thought! -

How can I make the best of this situation?
mumto2 replied to craftymama's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Just remember the whole time that you will not have to do this again. Keep the food simple. Do not decide to make things you have never cooked before. Announce to mil that it is simple so that everyone can enjoy the visit. Planning time away is a great suggestion. For you and the children. This visit is all about DH let him run the show. You are simply support. -

When we are in the states we are regular attenders at a large church -- two services with roughly 1000 total in attendance. They list the budgeted amount for the prior week's services and the amount collected. They also list the year to date figures. This is part of the notices given to you as you enter the church. The minister has mentioned when collections are far below the budget. Personally I like this method but it only works in a large church. Donations do seem to come in to make up for the deficits. In our 35 person church I hate hearing about finances. We give a budgeted amount monthly no matter where we are, direct deposited. We are willing to donate more for special projects that We want to see completed but not for the general fund. We would have to tell them up front if we were lowering our giving level because we are part of a small number of families which give monthly support. They use this for the main budget.

Cambridge Latin questions
mumto2 replied to Julie of KY's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
We are using it as a supplement. I was able to buy several years worth of Cambridge Latin textbooks really inexpensively. We do not have the student book or teachers guide which you definately need IMO without other background or resources. They are well prepared. I have been considering buying them because they would probably make my life easier. I am lazy and tired of preparing my own tests. Before buying anything go to the Cambrigde latin website and try it. Most of the text is right there. You really do not need anything else. After a couple of units you will have a good idea of what you need in order to complete book 1. Quizlet also has plenty of vocabulary Cambridge I practice for free. We have always used Memoria Press and Henle. I bought Cambridge as an inexpensive supplement to help prepare for the National Latin exam which requires more Roman culture and geography then Henle has. If we actually go ahead a do the exams is another thing.
