  1. It might be easier and cheaper to take the file to somewhere that prints things and have it printed there - I've done mine at office max and fedex office stores for a small fee - less than the ink would have been.
  2. Good Morning Everyone! I saw that no one had started the thread yet for today, and since we are without a leader I thought I would go ahead and fill in for today. We're doing a early spring clean today of the school room, then tomorrow's plan is to put away everything so it's ready to start classes on Monday. What's for breakfast/lunch today? Breakfast for us was scrambled egg tacos and pop-tarts. We ate late so will skip lunch. Where are you going today? We're not going anywhere - it's storming here and expected to worsen through the day so home we stay. What are you looking forward to today/tonight? Sleep :D Well that and hopefully a clean school room. How is everyone else doing today?
  3. I would not - not to mention the safety issues {no idea which way the fire could jump, etc} the air quality issues are enough to make me say no way. Especially if it's a commercial building burning it can release a LOT of contaminants into the air.
  4. Oh I didn't realize she'd had another! Will have to tell my DD when she gets up and show her the cam
  5. Really you're not tied to the rotation unless you want to be - you can do your own thing. Change it up a little, take a year and do Geography or something similar as a break. If you're in the US, you could take this coming year and focus on Government and how it works - it is an election year and would be ideal for it. For us - we're doing World history year 1 {ancients to as far as we get} for 1st/2nd, then finishing up to present day in 3rd grade. 4th & 5th will be US history and state history, with additional study in native american history.
  6. Is the object learning to sew or just learning to use a needle and thread? You might could do an easy craft with yarn, needle and plastic mesh - there are millions of options out there. They are cheap too - I've done them with my 5 year old DD for girl scouts.
  7. hmm - she might be ready to move on to these ones: Happy Hollisters Bobbsey Twins {get the old ones if you can the reading level is higher} Slightly more adult - these are teen books but I read them about her age: Trixie Belden Nancy Drew Hardy Boys {I know many girls who read them too} Cherry Ames Meg Mysteries
  8. Same here - can't stand them. I don't even like to go in the snake house at the zoo where they are behind thick glass.
  9. I try to tidy our school room area {where most of our bookcases are} while DD is working on schoolwork. I'm right next to her, but not constantly sitting with her so she learns to do it on her own, IYKWIM. One of these days I'm going to finish inputing all my books into librarything, and be able to find the books I need without having to sort through multiple bookcases and re-shelve them all!
  10. Maybe Math Facts Now! Would work? I don't think it's timed
  11. I'm the lone one out - I use the old plan. I have all the materials for both, and found that I lost better on the old plan than the new one. However I have a thyroid problem so that is likely why.
  12. We do the opposite - watch the DVD but don't use the books! I use them as extra science supplement for another program though, we don't use sonlight.
  13. I'm looking for these too, and the flag stickers as well. Would you mind telling me the name of the book you found with all the flag stickers?
  14. Home Learning Year by Year by Rupp - I consult this book constantly to do lesson plans and see if I'm missing anything for the year.
  15. About the same here, I've gotten used to it. It's not the worst place I've lived for sure! I make sure to be home by dark and pay attention when out and about. If things look odd or tense in the neighborhood I detour and come home another way.
  16. celiac maybe? I'd ask for another thyroid test too - often they only test TSH which is not a good indicator of how the thyroid is really doing.
  17. drat - I was hoping we could just use the student pages and wing it. Guess that's out. Why is it that every history program for this age level ends up not working for us for one reason or another? Thanks for answering my question everyone!
  18. Very different here, but we can all get along. Practicing Muslim, former religious mutt and PK I am 27 Single mama, never been married. No boyfriend in the picture either. Had to drop out of college 1 year away from finishing 3 degrees when I got sick Children - DD age 5 my miracle baby Not active in church {but it's not a requirement either}, actively studying my faith and practicing My DD is a little homebody, but it's due to her ASD and multiple food allergies. We don't do much of anything with others as a regular thing - we do drop in at Morgan's Wonderland {the greatest special needs park on the planet}, and places like the zoo and such. We don't do video games really - never been into them. And I'm a 2nd generation homeschooler - I was homeschooled myself from 4th - 9th grades.
  19. this will sound really gross, but the only way I've been able to really get rid of roaches is to use lizards. We're in San Antonio too, and the house next to us is a rental. They spray it every 2 weeks, and all it does it make the roaches move next door - i.e. my house. Using pesticides doesn't work for us due to allergies either. I discovered this by accident - I had one of the little color-changing lizards get into my kitchen and decide he wanted to stay a while back. No idea how he got in, but within a month the roaches were GONE. Haven't seen a bug in months. We did end up with maybe 5-6 lizards total in the house {babies of the one I think} but I'd much rather have lizards than roaches. The lizards stay out of sight unless it's late night, and pretty much move back out when there isn't food for them anymore. Easy as can be, and all natural lol.
  20. DD is a young 5 {but in 1st grade} and while I don't bring it up, she often watches the news with us and ask questions. I was about her age when I can remember watching the Berlin Wall come down on TV and knowing it was a big deal.
  21. Does anyone here use k12 history for 1st or 2nd grade? How did you like it? Was it fairly balanced and secular? I am considering it, but wondering if I can teach it from just the student pages I can purchase off amazon, or do I need to subscribe to k12 for the online content for those courses.
  22. Would you mind telling me what brand the corn dogs are? I've been looking all over for all-beef ones since I quit eating pork, and I haven't found any!
  23. We've never done any - they just aren't my cup of tea. I might try some this year with DD, we'll see.
  24. I have it on my right hand, but not the left. No diagnoses related to it either. DD doesn't have it on either hand.
