Awana homeschool or Grapevine Studies?
nash_mom replied to ExcitedMama's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
In the last church we were at that did AWANA, we had one family that the commander worked with that basically worked through things at home with some one on one time with a leader for accountability. The one on one time was not often or long and the parent was the other "leader" for signing things off.. That might be something to discuss with your commander. -
Has Anyone Tried Teaching History in Reverse?
nash_mom replied to MeyerWire's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
We did SOTW 1 last year with a 1st, K, and Pre-K. This year we are using Simply Charlotte Mason covering the same time period but we are also adding in a US History. I really like the combo. partly because we have been able to visit Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown a couple of times this year (we live about 6 hours away and got year long passes) I do think the kids have a different understanding of things that happened here. The US history for us has been completely living books that look good to me in a chronological order. I have not been very worried about what I cover or do not cover because I know in a few years we will cover it with a curriculum. -

After the 3 new trucks I have heard in the last half hour, you are probably right we would be too far away to see. I had also thought about the safety issues.

I just heard from a friend that there is a very bad fire downtown in our small town. We live about 5 or 6 blocks from where the fire is. I keep hearing fire trucks come down the major road that leads to the downtown area (just heard # 5 or 6 and that does not include the initial responders). I am sad for the loss in our small community and praying for the other buisnesses that are close by. Another friend that lives a block from us was getting her kids ready (ds-6, ds-4 and dd-2) to go down and watch. I have very conflicting thoughts on this, on one hand their dad is a firefighter and will be helping, the kids are passionate about fires, and it is great as homeschoolers to have the flexability to go during the school day. On the other hand, to me a fire is NOT a spectator sport for anyone, especially so young. My kids are extremely worried when we hear a sieren and want to stop and pray for the people involved. What do you think?

Book a Week in 2012 - Week 3
nash_mom replied to Robin M's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I have been reading, but realized last night I have not posted yet. So far this year I have read Little House on the Praire, His Forever Love, a "dime-store" romance that I can not even remember the name of :glare: and Forever Love this week. I am spending time today reading Hosea from the Old Testament. This coming week I am reading Ahab's Bride: Book One of Ahab's Legacy by Louise M. Gouge The author is the mother of one of my good friends and I bought it when it first came out.:blushing: You all have inspired me to read this trilogy and Moby Dick by Spring. I am also starting Little House in the Big Woods with the kids this week.- 226 replies

What if your younger sister got married right after the older one. When my sister got married in October, they took most of the pictures before and just a few after. What if they had the younger sister's wedding when you normally have a million and one pictures right after the first wedding.Everyone else would just already go to the reception.
