  1. I don't really mind it - I'm getting treated to a BEAUTIFUL light show from all the lightening!
  2. On the NE side of San Antonio here, near Windcrest. I have a 5 year old DD, and would be interested in park days or the like. My DD is a Juliette Girl Scout, and if we could find another Juliette at the Daisy or Brownie level to work on projects with she would be thrilled.
  3. I'm here too - gotta stay awake I'm on tornado watch
  4. I'm a total newbie at lapbooks, but DD likes arts and crafts type things and making things, so we're going to try some lapbooks for 1st grade when we start back in a week. So - spam me with your favorite free and cheap sites to get lapbook templates and kits?
  5. No, But I have a combo adult bedroom {Mine}, office and homeschool room though. It mostly works with some privacy for me too.
  6. Sounds interesting - in college I would have been all over this lol. Now I'm too busy to devote the needed time to it - besides it would take away from my fanfiction addiction;)
  7. It can be done, but it is hard. You have to find ways to let go of structure and teach when you can. I did this the last 2 years caring for my dad with Alzheimer's who had a feeding pump and hourly medications. Will you be home schooling all of them? Or is it possible in your area to send them half day for therapy and trade off so you have one on one time with each for education?
  8. Haven't read the book, so I have no idea. But I just do what I like, fits my budget, and works for DD.
  9. I hate the new timeline pages - I'm resisting as long as I can on changing it. Unfortunately I do a LOT of things via facebook, so I can't just delete my account
  10. FWIW, according to the national office you can CONTINUE with the older books / patches if you want, but they will not be continuing to make them so they will be hard to find. National recommends you switch to the new program, but the rule is that ANY girl scout patch, regardless of WHEN it was designed / produced, is an OFFICIAL patch and may be earned by a girl of the same AGE level it was designed for. Note they say AGE level NOT GS level - this means that with the age changes for the levels Daisy's can earn Try-its as brownies used to start in 1st grade. I think there may be some overlap in the older girl ages too but am not sure. This is what we plan on doing for Brownies - I have the new handbook and we are disappointed with it too. As a Juliette {scout not part of a troop} almost every activity in the Daisy book requires a group to complete. Brownie is much the same way. Not a good thing for us at all. All I get from the National office is that the Council should offer opportunities for girls not in troops to work together for projects - well our council doesn't except in summer, and I can't afford the $100 camp fee for her to go do that. Plus with her ASD she doesn't do well in groups, and all-day events are a nightmare because of her multiple food allergies. Same thing with the Journey projects. I'm a little peeved at the council right now anyways - we missed out on selling cookies because they insist the paperwork be submitted through the service unit {set up through the public school system} prior to selling cookies. Paperwork is due in November, cookies sell in February. It took be weekly emails from August until December to finally get a hold of anyone in the service unit - they changed the meeting time and location without notifying me. So I have one very sad little Daisy scout who had been looking forward to selling cookies for the last year and working towards it, only to be told now she can't.
  11. Soup and sandwiches - normally canned chicken noodle with grilled cheese.
  12. I buy year-round when I find it super cheap. I mostly thrift shop and use amazon, so really it's just when I find it at a rock bottom price.
  13. So - how is everyone doing so far today? What have you accomplished? We have the schoolroom halfway cleaned up, still working on the other half. Got the mail before it got soaked in the rain, and DD is writing a story on her computer.
  14. At one time or another I have bought all of those things used - doesn't phase me. Wash it in hot water if you can, scrub it with lysol if you can't. I do normally draw the line at buying underware for sizes past puberty used - not to say I won't, but I'm a lot more careful about doing so.
  15. We're both right - Word Caper used to be titled Talking Words Factory 2: Code Word Caper :D
  16. Not familiar with doing it for martial arts, but I just give pass/fail grades for things locally where we need a report card like free pizza day and such.
  17. The Leapfrog DVD - Word Caper teaches all about them, set to music so it's easy to remember. It worked great for DD, as did all the rest of the learning to read leapfrog series.
  18. I would, but first I have to tackle DD's room - It became the dumping ground when I cleaned out the school room lol and it's getting pretty deep.
  19. If you can find a copy of it there is a reading rainbow show about mummies I think - would be a good extra thing to watch.
  20. :iagree: I used to complain about having to cook dinner for the family every night from age 10-13, until one day we went to a 4H event fixing Christmas dinners and wrapping gifts for needy families. I was the only one there out of 50+ teens {and several adults} who knew how to cook something other than mac & cheese. I ended up having to teach everyone how to make gravy for the dinners. After that I went home and thanked my mama!
  21. I can take it over if y'all want - I'm normally up in the mornings and on here anyways. Only hard part will be coming up with questions really.
  22. Before you pay - go check the shelf at the local brand where you returned them to see if they are there. I've had the library insist several times that we had lost the books, searched the entire house, only to find that they had been returned and just not checked in. Otherwise, I'd split it 50/50 between you and child in question.
  23. I'd go for it - even if she never competes, it's a valuable skill. And fwiw, when she is a little older she could easily get a summer job at most girl scout camps teaching basic horseback riding - I know our council has 2 camps and has trouble finding teen or college age girls to teach the little daisy and brownie scouts how to ride.
  24. We have this one, and the $1 spot one from Target too. I prefer this one - it's sturdier and the spacing is larger. We use it all the time!
