  1. This is one of the reasons I like it better than any other recipe organizer I have ever used is because of the ease of importing recipes. It is just so easy to use. Also, the drag and drop feature for menu planning makes is far easier than any other program. I haven't used AllRecipes.com, but I have used a lot of other different online menu planning and none of them are easy to use as PTE Joy
  2. We have several of the Samsung Galaxy 7 tab and love them.
  3. Just got back from being gone a week, so waaaay behind. Joy
  4. I have had the first one for about 8 years and it is still going strong. I use it almost daily and I love it. Joy
  5. We love this recipe: http://www.food.com/recipe/cube-steaks-baked-in-gravy-286395
  6. If you join the SWR yahoo group, there is a ton of games in the files section. Also, the book "Games for Reading" by Peggy Kaye is a great resource.
  7. Maybe you could consider something like megawords if you want to stick with the workbook reinforcement.
  8. We use Atelier and really like it. I have heard good things about Home Art Studio, but it looks like it only goes up to 5th grade. Could be a good program for your younger 2, but probably not challenging for your 14yo.
  9. I agree with this. This book was so helpful in explaining the process of narration, copywork, and dictation. There are a lot of articles online that you might find helpful. Search for copywork and dictation. Here are a few to get you started. I found this article by SWB: http://www.welltrainedmind.com/why-do-copywork-and-dictation/ Another article you might find helpful: http://a-pilgrims-heart.blogspot.com/2011/04/using-copywork-to-teach-grammar-and.html
  10. For this reason, I won't even call about car repairs, safety inspections, etc. The "good ol' boy" network is still going strong.
  11. Once, when we lived in a duplex, we shared a driveway with the people in the other half of the duplex. We had a couple of incidences with our neighbor and we eventually ended up in small claims court. One, my son left the trash can sticking out right behind the neighbors van and when he backed out, he hit the trash can with the side mirror on the drivers side of the car and damaged the mirror. Two, my daughter (age 8) left her bike further up the driveway, but still in his lane for backing out and he backed over it. Now in both incidences, I knew my children had been irresponsible, but I felt he was backing up recklessly. The trashcan was just to the side right behind his van, and he backed up with enough speed for the mirror to be broken off after just accelerating a matter of feet. The bike literally could have been a child and if he had looked in his rear view mirror before backing up, he should have seen it. Both families had multiple small children at the time and the driveway was often a play place for scooters, big wheels and such, so he should have been more aware. Long story short, our insurance would not pay for his mirror, so he sued us in small claims court. He won the mirror repair. Our daughter did not win a new bike. In the case of the OP, I would either offer to pay for the half a new bike or fix it if possible as her dh has done. I think both parties should accept some responsibility, especially for the sake of family relations.
  12. Our mortgage is about 21% of our take home pay. Basic utilities add about another 8%.
  13. For scrapbooking, I buy Ad Tech brand adhesive at Hobby Lobby. It is about $3 for the holder and $3 for a 2 pack of refills. It comes in permanent which is very sticky and the repositionable which becomes permanent after awhile, but is adjustable in the beginning. I use the permanent. Wal-Mart used to have this exact same product with a different name and packaging. I am not sure if they still do. For school products, the only glue stick I will use is "Scotch permanent". It is a red and white glue stick and has a black and yellow "Scotch" label. I buy mine at Sam's. They come in a 24 pack for about $7.
  14. I use frozen fruit from Sam's. I put any combination of frozen strawberries, blueberries, mango, peaches, mixed berries that I have on hand. I buy spinach at Aldi. I add in chia seeds, coconut oil, and a scoop of protein powder. I don't eat bananas, but I do freeze them to add to smoothies for my kids. My kids wanted to try my smoothies in the beginning and then they got hooked, too. My husband on the other hand won't even give it a try with the spinach in it. He does make orange julius type of smoothies. Just nothing green. Lol.
  15. When I respond to a sellers ad, I try to be clear with my intention to buy. If I have questions about an item. I say in the email that I would like to buy the item if ...question. I try to only ask questions about the condition of the item, not engage the seller in why they are selling or how they liked the item. I also state that I can pay right away with paypal. If I respond to a FS ad, I watch my email for a response and respond back quickly. Sorry you are experiencing frustration. Joy
  16. Congrats on your new machine. I just wanted to mention this book really helped me with my whole wheat bread baking. It really explains the process and has recipes to make really great bread. It has ideas for all kinds of variations on a basic bread recipe. http://www.amazon.com/Bricks-Successful-Whole-Grain-Bread/dp/061525330X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1361341867&sr=8-1&keywords=no+more+bricks+by+lori+viets
  17. One thing that really helped my blood sugar during my last pregnancy with GD was to walk after every meal. I would walk a 1/3 of a mile after almost every meal. I didn't even walk fast. Sometimes it was pretty slow, but it really seemed to help with the the numbers. Numbers were always higher if I hadn't gotten that little bit of exercise in, especially after the evening meal. I also got to meet a lot of neighbors along that route. :001_smile: Joy
  18. Mine is usually acute pain for about an hour, then tenderness for about a day after. It is usually in the middle. Joy
  19. I like the blender. I mostly use it for smoothies and it works great for that. Joy
  20. I think the difference here is that he is not coaching a sport, but he is a PE teacher. Kids play all sorts of games in PE. I don't really have a problem with him playing the game with the kids. When I was in school, we had a great time when the teachers played games with us during recess or PE. Just plain fun. I think the OP's problem is that the teacher has suddenly become unfairly aggressive to her son which is not OK or fun. Joy
  21. They probably are being over protective. I would just humor them and next time you cook, I would use the oven. :001_smile: Joy
  22. I live on the suburban MO side. We love it. Lots of active homeschoolers and homeschooling is very easy in MO. Gas is cheaper than it is in KS. Overall, I think it is cheaper to live in the MO suburban areas than Johnson County, KS. I would avoid the Independence and Raytown areas on the MO side. Liberty and Lee's Summit both have quaint downtown areas with lots of history. They also both have a great parks and shopping.
  23. I have no advice for the incident that happened, but I would like to suggest to the OP that maybe getting her ds involved in a sport would be a good way for him to work off some excess energy. Also a team sport could help him with learning how to relate to others. It could be a bonus if it was a sport Dad is also interested in. My oldest son was very high energy and could really push people's buttons, but being active in sports gave him direction and focus.
  24. Here is a similar recipe made in the crock pot. http://lakelurecottagekitchen.com/2011/08/30/crock-pot-teriyaki-chicken/
  25. We also have always bought Canon. We decided to buy a new a camera with our Christmas money and went shopping for a Canon Rebel. The guy at the camera store convinced us to go with the Nikon 3100. I haven't had it very long and I can only use it on the auto settings so far because I am a very amateur photographer, but I love the pictures it takes. JMO, Joy
