  1. :grouphug: I just listened to SWB's Literary Analysis mp3 for high school and was encouraged about how simple it can be. Maybe you can do her suggestions with the literature being read to give variety? If you print out the notes it gives suggestions on different types of papers to write. I think she said there were a lot of discussion questions for literature in The Well-Educated Mind
  2. I'm glad it is going well for you! At the very last minute ( day before school started), I decided to have my 9th grader do WHL with his older brother rather than AHL. It has worked out very well so far. The discussions are much more interesting with the 3 of us! We have also watched some historical movies together and talked together as a family. The younger kids are doing RTR.
  3. My older dc could continue no problem, but I have a 5th grader, kindergartener and 18 month old too. Something to think about!
  4. :iagree: My son is dyslexic and I allow him to take as long as he needs on the writing assignments.
  5. Yes I was referring to Vocabulary Workshop. thanks! Do you need the TM for Vocabulary Workshop? Do I start my ds at grade level or begin at 9th grade? I have a ninth grader and tenth grader that are weak in vocabulary.
  6. Please help me decide which vocabulary program to use with my 9th and 10th graders. Pros? Cons?
  7. I saw on their website that WWW will be augmented soon. Does anyone have a release date?
  8. http://www.virtualhomeschoolgroup.com is free and is accepting new students for module 9 which starts in Oct. Biology modules can be done in any order except for modules 5-8. MFW also has nice plans, but my dc have found the online class to be much more interesting. They began with module 4 and will stay in the class until they complete all 16 modules.
  9. I am using WWS with my dyslexic son and so far he is doing well with it. I really like IEW, I used it for my oldest 2 in middle school. Now I am doing WWS with 10th, 9th, and 7th graders. I plan to have them do IEW's Advanced Communication Series after WWS.
  10. Yes AG works well after FLL. My ds did FLL 4 in 5th grade and did AG in 6th-8th and did fine. My 3rd ds went from ALL to Hake 5, but he has mild dyslexia so I didn't want to overwhelm him. I think most students could do Hake 6 after ALL, especially if they complete the entire sample.
  11. send an email to executiveassistant@welltrainedmind.com I think you can still get in. They only emailed the first 2 weeks so far.
  12. I didn't finish the sample after realizing it wouldn't be completed on time. I switched ds to Hake. My older 2 did AG but didn't do ALL. I think you could go straight to AG from ALL.
  13. WHL for New Testament/Church History, English, and World History Biology with http://www.virtualhomeschoolgroup.com Algebra I Spanish and Speech with local coop Baseball and Soccer
  14. My boys love http://www.virtualhomeschoolgroup.com Biology has continuous enrollment and I believe will be accepting new students for Module 9, which begins in Oct. (only modules 5-8 have to be done in order). Lectures cover the content in the modules, so you only have to read the book to study for tests, which are online. The lectures are interesting with a lot of visual aids and teacher and student interaction. There is also a lab day, game day, and biomystery day for most of the modules. Final exams are taken online.
  15. AG is a good choice. I did that with my older 2. With my 3rd born we went from ALL to Hake. It was a good transition.
  16. email them at executiveassistant@welltrainedmind.com
  17. his is mild, mostly affects spelling and writing. He was able to retain the material in Hake, the exercises were just mentally exhausting. Based on what you said, I think I will just stick with Hake.
  18. I have a dyslexic 7th grader and can't decide if I should continue with Hake Grammar 6 (he did Hake 5 last year) or try Easy Grammar Plus. He hated Hake 5 last year and had to work hard at it, but he retained a lot and aced his standardized grammar test for the first time in his life (only missed one out of 55). Should I stick with it since it seems to be working? I was thinking about doing Easy Grammar Plus as I thought it might be less overwhelming for him as he has a lot of hard subjects this year. But my mantra always has been if it is working, don't change. I am so confused. I just sold my EG Plus and bought Hake 6, but now I am second guessing myself. A friend told me that EG Plus is for kids who naturally get grammar but wouldn't help those who struggle. Having never used it, I don't know what to think. Lori
  19. 7th grade dyslexic son MFW Rome to Reformation Apologia General Science Saxon 8/7 WWS Hake Grammar 6 AAS 6-7 Caesar's English 1
  20. Apologia's website it is an 8th or 9th grade course. Public schools here do Physical in 9th unless you are on an advanced track. My oldest son did it in 9th, but my 2nd ds did it in 8th.
  21. I also read on this board somewhere that if someone was having trouble with WWS to do Paragraph Writing Made Easy first. Their recommendation was to do WWE, then the paragragh book, and then WWS. I am doing WWS with my 7th, 9th, and 10 graders. If they don't know it, they need to learn it. It's better to start with basics and succeed, than to flounder and fail trying to do something that it too difficult.
