  1. Hi Debra...welcome! I am sure that there is waaaay more interesting about you then where you live - although where you live does sound interesting and exotic. :001_smile:
  2. Just repped her. I really respect you for making things right!
  3. 23..They call it PMS because Mad Cow Disease was already taken.:lol::lol: These are very clever...thanks!
  4. Check online for already made schedules for the materials you are using. I needed to schedule R&S English 4 and went to google and found another homeschool mom's blog and she had posted her schedule for this to share. What a blessing. I found a few schedules online for the materials I'm using and made one for the rest. It took me a few days to get it all together but it was worth it. Now we know exactly what pages we have to do when. Also, as others have posted, try to combine your subjects as much as possible and teach both dc's at the same time. Also, your 4 yo needs to be occupied. Check out this site: http://www.redshift.com/~bonajo/preschool_activities.htm (go to the Dolly's Ziploc bag activities link) The idea is that you make up ziploc bags with different activities in them...enough so that they can be rotated. Hopefully these will keep your little one occupied long enough for you to get through lessons. And, it's good for the little ones to know that they have to wait patiently for their turn with mama. It just takes a little patience and training...patience on your part and training on theirs! ;) HTH!
  5. Hanna is very social! She just came to play with my children as well. My oldest dd is outside fully clothed (why can't she just put on her bathing suit??) and dh is still puttering around outside doing yard work. She just got here so we'll see if she's a good guest or if she'll throw a tantrum.
  6. I was home, just seeing dh off to work when my neighbor came out and told us what was going on. Dh's employers lost someone, my best friend lost someone...it seemed like everyone either lost someone or knew someone who did. Very tragic. My dh used to work at the towers at Windows on the World. I am so thankful that he no longer did!
  7. I guess I'm very spoiled here. My library (both branches) are open from 9:30 am to 9 pm Mon-Fri, 9:30-5 pm Sat. and 12-5 Sun (Sunday only during the school year). We pay for it big time though through our taxes...our property taxes are insane.
  8. I have to come to Oak Knoll Mom's defense here. On page 2 of this thread Pam said that according to the rating on this thread, some folks think Colleen's choice is terrible. On page 3, Oak Knoll Mom responded to Pam with her opinion that the low rating was not due to that, but due to the way Colleen worded the title to her post and found it misleading. Others agreed with Oak Knoll Mom and said so. Out of 9 pages there are only a few that posted their agreement with Oak Knoll. I think they are entitled to their opinion just as Colleen is to hers.
  9. Last year I gave the Entertainment Book to my brother/sil and they loved it. Will probably do it again for them and maybe for the parents as well.
  10. This is a really good book...not so much a how to book, but it will really help you find the right products for your dd. The author has done an amazing job of reviewing and rating all the cosmetics that are on the market and breaking down the ingredients that are in them. You would be shocked at some of the stuff they put into cosmetics. This is the 7th edition so it is current. http://www.amazon.com/Dont-Cosmetics-Counter-Without-7th/dp/1877988324/ref=pd_cp_b_0?pf_rd_p=413864201&pf_rd_s=center-41&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=1877988308&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=01DN9SPERPSBY35JRE1Y
  11. I agree that is in very poor taste. Most definitely used poor judgment there. I have to confess that we all enjoyed watching the beach volleyball and enjoyed Walsh & May-Treanor as well as Rogers & Dallhauser. Neither Dh or I noticed any attitude from either team. Having said that...we definitely didn't care for the skimpy bikini's - at all. But we didn't let it stop of from enjoying the sport. I'm happy that they won.
  12. The Firm workouts are good. I was also going to suggest the Turbo Jam workouts.
  13. This site will give you lots of great info for cooking for large groups! http://www.hemlockhillsgatlinburgresort.com/large_group_recipes.html
  14. Get yourself a good, age appropriate book on the real reason for Christmas and also an age appropriate book on St. Nicholas and his origins. After reading them, just be honest with them. I can't think of a book suggestion off the top of my head but I know that there are many of them out there. My opinion would be to tell both dc's at the same time, not just the older one. And I don't think you need to approach it from the pov that you've bee lying to them. Just that St. Nick was a real person but over time his life turned into a myth that people have repeated over time and sometimes the real meaning of the holiday gets hidden. I don't know, I'm sure you'll be able to explain it better! :)
  15. Gifts in a jar are always nice. Here is one site: http://www.geocities.com/giftsinajar/ But if you google "gifts in a jar" you'll get a bunch of different sites.
  16. That's so great! Definitely take it slow and have fun!
  17. I think you used the word assume at least 4 or 5 times so that tells me you are just guessing at reasons and motivations. IMO it's time to sit down with your pastor with your dh and ask him directly: 1. How does he feel about homeschooling? 2. Is he prohibiting the use of the space because of his views on homeschooling? 3. Has dd been denied use of the youth room because it involves homeschooling? These issues need to be discussed openly and honestly and your Pastor needs to know how you feel. If you don't tell him, it will fester in your heart and he will be clueless. If he doesn't agree with homeschooling, it doesn't make him a bad pastor it just means he doesn't agree with it and you and dh would then be better prepared to see if you want to stay. So I say talk to your Pastor! :001_smile:
  18. Man, it's amazing how he won. That guy is phenomenal!
  19. The one thing that bugs me about homeschooling? Well, that would have to be the whiny, "I can't do it" from my oldest. She just doesn't like to try and if she can't do something perfect the first time (really, who can?), then she starts with the I give up and can't do it attitude. No amount of encouragement helps. The reason this bugs me is because it's only with me she does this. Any other adult she would continue to persevere and try. But because I'm the one teaching her most things...well, you can guess :glare:
