  1. It is almost certainly the ketones that you are smelling.
  2. While ketones are often associated with very high blood glucose levels, there are a number of situation where ketones, even dangerously high levels, can occur with normal bg. That can get very tricky to manage, because the insulin needed to reduce the ketone level will also lower bg to unacceptably low levels. It is also possible to have quite high bg (400+) without having ketones of any significance. As far as sick kids, the ketones occur because of not eating enough. Not considered dangerous in and of itself, because non-diabetics produce enough insulin, even in times of fasting, to prevent the feedback loop that leads to dka(diabetic ketoacidosis).
  3. Someone can have pretty high levels of ketones without being in dka.
  4. Ketones. It is a metabolic byproduct of burning fat instead of glucose for fuel. Some describe it as similar to acetone (nail polish remover) and some as a fruity smell. Non-diabetics can have ketones on a very low carb diet and also when fasting. ETA it is due to a relative lack of insulin. For Type 1 diabetics when not enough insulin is delivered either by intention, neglect, or when the body requires more such as in times of illness.
  5. I agree that you should tell her whatever will lead to the least stress.
  6. That stinks for your neighbor. Our back to back neighbor had a tree fall on their house in a probable tornado, and then a few years later, another tree fell on a car in their driveway. Really rotten luck.
  7. It helps lower blood pressure. My mother was able to come off two of her blood pressure meds after adding magnesium.
  8. I like the raspberry lemon. Haven't tried the orange.
  9. Speaking of buildup... I applied it about 3 times a tear and di not notice buildup. Removal is always a concern I have. For those noticing buildup, how often has it been applied?
  10. I have used it with great success also! Love the product.
  11. For car interior windows I use denatured alcohol and 0000 steel wool. Nothing else I have tried gets the film off.
  12. Also sending big hugs and comforting energy.
  13. Dh is a veteran. I think there has to be some military connection.
  14. We priced USAA which would have been cheaper for dh and me, but the extra for teen drivers? Forget it. We got the best rates from GEICO.
  15. Ds is dual enrolled and his spring breaks do not line up. As he is a senior and really wants to go to Florida with high school friends, he spoke with his college profs and is going to take the week off from his college classes, two weeks after the college spring break. I am kind of surprised they are okay with that.
  16. IIRC DST officially starts at 2:00 am Sunday morning, so overnight Saturday to Sunday.
  17. Argggghhhhh I have an early call on Sunday, too. Not quite as early as you, and I definitely don't have to take any kids.
  18. The time doesn't change until Saturday night/Sunday morning. So you should be good for Saturday!
  19. It makes me appreciate the "fall back" one so much. That's all.
  20. My heart goes out to you and your family. Sometimes life really sucks.
  21. Would you say that rises to the level of an obligation? What if the issues did not include false teachings?
  22. For those recommending discussing it with leaders: have you ever personally witnessed this approach having any effect at all? I ask because I have not. I left a church one time for very specific reasons. Hand delivered a letter similar to what FaithManor suggested to all persons directly effected by my resignation. Gave a complete explanation to a few friends. Neither the minister nor anyone else in leadership ever enquired as to the exact reasons.
  23. Based on my experience with being given the runaround, It's time to escalate at DHL. Ask for a supervisor, then ask if the person has the authority to solve the problem right now. If not, ask for a person who does have that authority. Accept nothing else. Prepare a one or two sentence summary of the problem and only give that until you talk to someone who has authority to resolve the issue. Don't waste your time giving a detailed account to each person you talk to. Don't accuse anyone of lying. Calmly state the issue and how it needs to be resolved. Recontact the person at OnePlus and state that DHL is giving you the runaround, that the problem is not resolved and no concrete steps have been taken to resolve the problem.
  24. I have had a claim paid out of network when it should have been covered as in network because it was an emergency admit. The first phone call I was told it was covered correctly. I freaked out and posted here and the knowledgeable hivers informed me that one of the provisions of the ACA was that emergency admissions be covered at in network rates. When I took that little nugget of wisdom back to the insurance people, they were like, "Oh, it was an emergency? Well sure, that should be covered as in network." The difference between what was paid initially and what was ultimately paid? $33,000. And only because I sought out answers and presented them to the insurance company. They would have been happy for me to be on the hook for that amount. Grrrrrr.
