  1. I have a different fitting issue- straight, narrow hips, flat saggy butt and a BIG waist, but differ enough from the norm to make jeans fitting likewise impossible. I also relate to the practical, not fashionable shoe issue. So I can't offer you any suggestions, but I will commiserate with the whole jeans non-fitting experience! Where is the jeans-fitting fairy when you need her!
  2. Chocolate no bake oatmeal (gluten free) cookies. Fudge. Jelly candy ETA Walnut stuffed dates rolled in sugar
  3. If you might have put it in a drawer, look behind the drawers. Sometimes things get swept out into the abyss that is behind drawers.
  4. There may be hypothyroid going on even if your numbers are in range. Did I miss it if you answered what your typical temperature is?
  5. What is your typical temperature? I'm thinking with a resting heart rate that dips below 60 and if you have a lower than 97.8 temp, I would investigate thyroid further. Despite having an in-range TSH, you may be hypothyroid. It would not explain everything, but might be a place to start.
  6. http://finestsreweavers.com/ Never used them, but this is what a search brought up.
  7. Hot and sour soup from the Chinese place. Mostly veggies, some tofu.
  8. I know I am an empty nester now, but I sure can JAWY. Ice storm and lose power for three days and home by myself with a baby and toddler and no heat? While dh is in sunny Southern California? Check Dh out of town and dd floods the bathroom and garage? Check Dd diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and is hospitalized while I learn how to check blood sugar, count carbs, give insulin shots? Where else would dh be? Dh's frail mother, who lives with us, falls and breaks her pelvis while having a heart attack? You think dh would be in town??? Hahahahaha I think you get the picture. So yes, I will be more than happy to sympathize with you. We lived to tell the story, and you will too. Hang in there. Just wait until your dc are young adults. Let the good times roll. 😳
  9. I would do hand basting just inside the seam allowance. I don't think taping would work very well.
  10. I would use compressed air and a vacuum to do a general dusting. Then operate the hand wheel, turning it toward you, to gently pull some oil through the system. After several revolutions, add a drop of oil. Do you know where to oil your machine? Run the machine at high rpm for several seconds. Put in a new needle. Review the threading and bobbin instructions. Most sewing problems are due to threading or bobbin error, or a needle with a burr or bent. And use good quality thread. Cheap thread is never worth the savings IMHO.
  11. I second Barkeeper's Friend for the tile and add a pumice stone for the toilet. Actually, I just looked up availability of the pumice stone and the one at WalMart advertises as for toilet and tile. Who knew?
  12. If you have a front loader, you could get another of the one you have, then wash them together. I can't wash one bath rug at a time, but two works fine.
  13. Another Georgia person who sees monogrammed clothing every day, all day. And purses, and boots, and backpacks, and blankets, etc. Pinterest has ideas for what to do with all your monogrammed stuff, like making quilt blocks. Even though I own a sewing machine that also embroiders, I did very little monogramming for my kids because I just couldn't see not being able to pass down clothes.
  14. I really think asking the landlord is your best plan. If you were the owner wouldn't you be happy to be asked rather than someone doing something that might degrade the finish?
  15. There seems to be a trade-off between cleaning off organic dirt (think high pH and detergents, Murphy's Oil Soap) and having a non-dulled finish (low pH, vinegar and water). Water alone is a great solvent, but will not have the cleaning power of a high pH detergent. Vinegar will aid in rinsing, and reduce mineral deposits from hard water, but will not be more effective than plain water in cleaning organic dirt. I have settled on routine maintenance with non-ammonia window cleaner (I buy a concentrate from a janitor supply store- a gallon lasts years-- helps reduce streaking) with occasional deeper cleans with a neutral pH cleaner, also from a janitor supply store. What seems to help the most is following any water based cleaning with drying with old towels to pick up the dirt loosened by the water.
  16. Put a foam topper *under* the mattress to get some cushioning without changing the feel of the surface?
  17. An air mattress like a backpacking pad?
  18. The officer and his immediate superior were not following policy. There was an agreement in place between SLCPD and UofU Hospital directly addressing the circumstance of drawing blood from an unconscious person. The officer was clearly wanting to act in direct violation of that agreement.
  19. We sent ds 1/4 into 8th grade. Looking back, 7th would have been better. Our local middle school offers a number of courses in 8th grade that count for high school credit--physical science, math, English and health. Ds was able to get two, but not all 4. It made a difference in the end, because all the students who were ahead of him at graduation had had all 4 in 8th. So not having all those courses cost him the opportunity to graduate at the very top of his class (he ended up 7/240 with a 4.0 unweighted/4.4 weighted gpa). If ds were not so academically motivated, it probably would not have mattered that much. Socially, it would also have been better for him to start earlier, but that was very likely individual to ds, as he was in the process of morphing from a shyer homebody to a highly social guy. Edited for typo
  20. Dh wears underwear from Duluth Trading. His opinion- worth it. He used to wear Jockey brand, but the quality steadily declined over the decade and a half he wore a particular style. Even though they are less than half DT, their (increasing lack of) comfort and durability make them *not* worth it.
  21. Yikes! I would be contacting the insurance company about the situation.
  22. I can't imagine them being offended. Every time I have tipped a worker, delivery person, etc. it has appeared to have been gratefully received with no awkwardness.
  23. I would have no problem supplying a credit card. I do not routinely use debit cards, but do use credit cards and pay them off monthly.
