  1. I can't imagine beginning a claim process so soon after the expected arrival date, but then I'm in Australia and dealing with international shipping. :) Honestly I don't even know the exact expected date, I just keep a list of things I've ordered and if something hasn't shown up after awhile I look up the dates. I usually give several weeks extra in the hopes that something will turn up before I start the claim process. Sometimes it does turn up. Once I started a claim sooner than that, the bookseller sent me another copy and then the first one turned up. Oops! Recently had to file a claim on an OOP and hard to find book, sigh, I gave it a whole extra month but it never turned up. Wondering if you would have had better luck ordering directly through BWB? Usually their third party books are also on their site (at least that's true of abebooks- if it is from BWB it will also be listed on the BWB site). I've always had great customer service from BWB.
  2. If you follow the link through to the ABS, there is no mention of those types of questions or jail time. Today Tonight is tabloid tv. :)
  3. Are there samples of this anywhere? I'd love a glimpse inside the book!
  4. Also wanted to add that ETC has been surprisingly independent for my 5yo who isn't really reading well, just learning. I sit next to him to help him with any questions or quickly correct him, but often if I get distracted I'll look over to find he's completed a whole page correctly without any help. Once they are familiar with the format it's simple for them to work through as long as you are nearby to point out anything confusing...like yes, that's a baseball glove but in this picture they want you to use the word 'mitt', etc.
  5. Another vote for AAS. But I'd start with ETC and see how she does with that first, it would probably be enough for awhile and then look at starting AAS in first grade. It is expensive, but you'll be able to reuse it for your younger ds, and if you want spelling to be more independent you may only use the first couple of levels of AAS before switching to something else. In the meantime it's a wonderful fit for youngers.
  6. It's the Home Education Association in Australia. I just looked at their website and don't see Mathletics listed, but I'm in Victoria and HEN has it at the school rate.
  7. Telling God's Story would probably tick those boxes. I like Grapevine for the stories, several times a week, and TGS for the big picture, once a week. Plus reading extra devotionals and character books.
  8. I can't remember which is which, but I bought the grade level series and wish I'd bought the other since I just use it as a supplement. I'd rather be able to just look at say, subtraction, and find what I need for extra practice than have to find the subtraction pages in each grade level until I get to what I'm looking for. So if it will truly be a suuplement get the topic series, but if there's a chance you'd use it as your main curric you'd want the graded series.
  9. Is this PMDD? Google for symptoms. I experienced this for awhile when my menstrual cycle started up again after my last child. Magnesium helped, by itself *not* with calcium. Helped tremendously actually. I tried the evening primrose oil but it didn't help me, however I'm not sure if I took enough of it or for long enough for it to work, I did have several people recommend it to me. But the magnesium worked right away and it was very noticeable.
  10. I hear you, I can only get to the .au site unless I use tunnelbear to make it look like I'm in the US. I did this once just to see the difference in price, a regular-priced subscription was like $40 more here. Crazy.
  11. I don't know if these count as curriculum, they are workboooks...but I'm ordering these Garfield books soon for my 8yo, he looooves Garfield... http://www.rainbowresource.com/product/sku/027640/d97217978e38ff0852debafc There's a vocabulary book, a geography book, and a math book.
  12. Natural Structure: A Montessori Approach to Classical Education at Home http://www.nsmontessori.com/ They used to sell printed copies of this, I have one somewhere. The link takes you to the home page, click the Natural Structure link on the right to take you to the 'book'.
  13. Found an old thread that gives some great details on the revisions... http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/468971-sotw-1-need-the-revised-ag-or-not/page__hl__+revised#entry4907982
  14. Search these forums for 'SOTW revised' and you should be able to find out the differences, this question pops up regularly but I don't remember the specifics.
  15. Well, I only have the free version, but I created lists for each AAS step based on the word lists in each step. I saved each list with the name of that step, so Step 14 List 1 for example. Then I just pull up that list and let DS choose whatever he likes. For us it's just an easy review and I don't require it for every step, just if I notice he's having difficulty with the words/rules in a particular step. I'd let them play and get an idea of the different games, then if you notice words in a particular step that really needs reviewed you can require specific games that you think would work best for review.
  16. You can buy the manipulatives individually on their website. The trouble is knowing which ones you need for just that level. I'm not sure if the required manipulatives would have changed with the new edition, but you can look at the first edition level A kit to get an idea of what you'd need. You can probably also contact them to find out. The new edition is new enough that not many have experience with it or have had time to go all the way through it yet. Annoyingly, the manipulatives list is not even in their sample on their website. I think it was a mistake for them to package the new level A this way. Who wants to buy all the manipulatives for all the levels when you are just starting out with the first level? What if RS doesn't work for you! IMO they should have another manipulatives kit for just that level so you have the option.
  17. Mine shows as a littke green icon/button next to the address bar. Click it and it opens Feedly in a new tab. HTH. So wishing GR wasn't going away!
  18. Um, no, missed that one and can't access it. I checked and don't have that one saved. Have you seen the video links blog? It links to youtube videos...might help you some. http://sotw-videolinks.blogspot.com.au/
  19. It says I don't have permission to read the link on your blog. Are you talking about History Odyssey by Pandia Press? They combine Usborne, SOTW, CHOW, along with maps, booklists, and projects from Days of Knights and Damsels. I'm currently debating whether I want to use the SOTW AG or HO. I'd rather have the AG or HO as a jumping off point than put together something on my own from scratch, even if I ended up rearranging it all. :) Another resource- Passport to the Middle Ages by Homeschool in the Woods. I'm planning to use this along with SOTW2, looks fun.
  20. I'm not having a problem with the links, but maybe I'm not looking at the right one. I only see two that refer to movies and they are both working for me. Neither link goes to a particular file, one goes to another website and the other goes to her own blog.
  21. Sounds like you've already worked out a schedule! What you've outlined sounds perfect. Give it a go snd see how it works for you. I've done 6 weeks on/1 week off and it worked well for us. You might find six weeks is too long or too short for you. We take a longer break over Chistmas/January because that's our summer. Friday is our homeschool group day and we've tried no school/projects/half-days on that day until we found what works for us. Doing one day of just projects/activities with a K'er sounds lovely. We also take off anytime DH has off work. This is the perfect year for you to experiment with your K'er, so go for it!
  22. Another vote for HWOT, my 8yo is doing great with the 3rd grade book. Very easy to follow instruction and completely independent. I haven't yet required cursive in other subjects but I am seeing him doing it on his own, sometimes in his other schoolwork and sometimes in his drawings.
  23. If it's truly just catching up on things that didn't get done during the year, then 1-3 hours should be plenty, along with whole days/weeks off. That should be plenty of time to catch up. I don't know the ages of your kids, but 3 hours a day is a full regular school day for young kids in many families. I hear you on Daddy time though, I don't attempt any schooling when dh is home! And late nights mean no school until noon around here, I need the late start as much as they do.
  24. And there is no reason that someone else using your ipad should be posting as you. They need to log into fb as themselves, you need to make that clear to them if they are ever allowed near your ipad again.
  25. Hmmm...thinking about labeling just some of the main categories, maybe that would work better. I guess all the books we use 'officially' for school as opposed to every book in the house. So a lot of the picture books and whatnot would not get labelled, they could just all be piled together on the shelf. But science, geography, history, readers, etc. would be labelled. In other words all the books I am always trying to find that seem to jump around the house. :D
