  1. Early and often. I correct our neighbor kids all the time. Though I wouldn't have told them that they can't tell adults they're wrong, because well, sometimes adults are wrong.
  2. No, you are not allowed to pump your own gas in Oregon. It was weird not doing it when we moved here, but now I'm (mostly) used to it. Because I'm a midwife, I know not to go to bed without gas in the tank, since you can't always get gas in the middle of the night.
  3. Has anyone made their kids a college admission/scholarship portfolio? I'm starting one for Patrick now, after hearing about it at the medical school and would love to hear about yours'.
  4. First one to say it.... I encapsulate placentas in it.
  5. My skinny dd wears long shirts and leggings.
  6. Honestly, it's been a long time since people have asked me stupid questions about our homeschooling.
  7. Did you give the 30 day notice in writing? If so, you only have to pay your rent for 30 days from that point, assuming you're on a month-to-month lease.
  8. I don't see it on Netflix. Did you rent it?
  9. The "risk" is that it's not going to work as well.
  10. We spend about 2 hours a week on each chapter. Lately that's meant having another family over on Friday mornings and doing it together.
  11. True story. I am finishing midwifery school and the time required is basically my waking hours. Everything else doesn't get done like it would, including my schoolwork, which I could focus on if I didn't have to feed children, watch the baby, educate children, etc. Forget taking care of the house. At this point, I basically leave that up to dh and the kids.
  12. My 12 year old son, who is normally a great kid, managed to get himself in enough trouble yesterday to be grounded for the next month. He is allowed to do schoolwork, chores and attend church with us (but not Sunday school since he likes it). I need chore ideas to take up the next month of his time, since that needs to be about half of his day. Any suggestions for jobs around the house, things outside of the normal cleaning that I might not think of?
  13. Since moving to Oregon, we have gone to the capitol building in Salem twice for the midwifery lobby day. Dd got to go to the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry with friends. Dh took all the kids to the Oregon Zoo the day they dropped me at the airport for my trip to Haiti in June.
  14. We are in a similar situation. We are in a 3 bedroom house with dh, myself and our five children. I've been looking on craigslist every day for something bigger that we can afford to rent, but its tough.
  15. That's a beautiful chart! I need you at my house.
  16. My oldest isn't really a teen yet; he's going to be 13 in October. He has Boy Scouts Monday night and plays with friends on our street most days of the week, but is in for dinner.
  17. We started Story of the World book 4 today. I read "Victoria's England" (from ch. 1) to all of the children and now my two oldest are doing the outline page for that part of the chapter. If time allows today, we're going to go to the library and try to find books for the first three chapters and I'm planning to try to get some movies for ch. 1-3 added to our Netflix queue.
  18. If you're homeschooling today, what are your kids learning about today? Any cool books they're reading or projects you're doing? If not, what are you all up to today?
  19. Do you have any health food or vitamin stores in your area?
  20. I like Saxon Math 3, the homeschool kit where the kid works mostly independently.
