  1. These are two other options for mood. You might pick one and try it for a while; I wouldn't use both at once: http://www.sourcenaturals.com/products/GP1053/ http://www.sourcenaturals.com/products/GP1254/
  2. Does your Vitamin D have calcium in it? While calcium can contribute to kidney stones, there's no reason Vitamin D would. http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-and-supplements/news/20131017/study-vitamin-d-supplements-may-not-raise-risk-for-kidney-stones The research that was done that indicated that Vitamin D could raise the risk was done on raising both calcium and Vitamin D: http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/247284.php
  3. I'm going to start using QuickBooks for my business accounting, instead of this "stacks of paper" method.
  4. I have a Pure Romance consultant friend I could direct you to...
  5. This is a well written article on acetaminophen overdose: http://health.cvs.com/GetContent.aspx?token=f75979d3-9c7c-4b16-af56-3e122a3f19e3&chunkiid=519878
  6. Do you charge enough for tutoring that it's worth doing? Does the parent know what the child needs to work on?
  7. Not really. I grade tests and quizzes, but then they disappear into the abyss.
  8. I voted 1-2x/week. Tonight I made turkey chili in the crockpot.
  9. I expect them to drink plenty of fluids, take the vitamins that i hand them, drink some tea, and lay around the house.
  10. We do 5-10 minutes of handwriting with our kids that do it. If you do it every day, I don't think you need to spend 25 minutes on that. Other people have already addressed the math issue, but I'll add in here too. Unless the math time is being driven by ds, unless he's the one wanting to do so much time, cut it down to 45-60 minutes a day, even if that lesson doesn't get "done." Pick up where you left off the next day.
  11. What is the texture of her stool like?
  12. We bought SWI-B and it took me a while to get started on it because I was a little overwhelmed and didn't know where to start. I found the schedule/syllabus in the binder and sat down with the kids and did it. I'm a fan! My oldest really likes it, and dd is willing to do it. Ds is not a fan of writing and relates to a lot of things that Andrew says on the DVDs. Dd likes to write a lot, but I think that this will help her start learning to structure and polish her work.
  13. My kids 8th grader - 60-90 minutes (Saxon, Coursera, Khan) 6th grader - 45-60 minutes (Saxon, Khan) 2nd & 3rd graders - 20-30 minutes
  14. We have Student Writing Intensive B and have used it a couple of times, are trying to be more consistent with doing it. I really like the teaching style and (when my youngest is napping and) we do it, the big kids do well with it. What other IEW things do you have? Do you like them? What have you gotten use out of?
  15. The kids did a good job on schoolwork with our babysitter yesterday. I'm home this morning. I've read them our chapter in Sassafras Science and had them do their page in the Scidat book. Right now, three of them are working on math and 7yods is reading to our youngest.
  16. I'm a midwife and am doing a bunch of Coursera courses that seemed applicable: Childbirth: A Global Perspective Teaching and Assessing Clinical Skills Gut Check: Exploring Your Microbiome Abortion: Quality Care and Public Health Implications (not my cup of tea, but I felt like I should take it) An Introduction to Marketing Health Literacy and Communication for Health Professionals My BIG goal is to pass all (most?) of them, not to abandon half of them like I have in the past. I occasionally spend a few minutes on khanacademy for math, and would like to do more, but am not trying to fit that in right now.
  17. I'm curious to see what other people are doing for self-education. What are you studying? How did you pick what to study? Do you have a schedule you follow?
  18. Today I: Finished listening to the recording from yesterday about birth work (with Aviva Romm) Watched three videos from Abortion: Quality Care and Public Health Implications (Coursera)
  19. An alternate view is shared in this book that I just read, The Smartest Kids in the World: And How They Got That Way. I got it at the airport when we were on vacation. The author follows American teens who are exchange students overseas, and investigates the education systems in those countries and why they're doing well. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13259960-the-smartest-kids-in-the-world?from_search=true
  20. Today I: Watched two videos from Gut Check: Exploring Your Microbiome (Coursera) Logged into Herbal Medicine for Women for the first time! (Aviva Romm) Watched welcome video in Herbal Medicine for Women Read p. 1-11 in the Herbal Medicine for Women lesson 1 PDF Started listening to a recording of Aviva Romm titled "THE WORK OF BIRTH: HOW, WHY, AND WHETHER TO BECOME A MIDWIFE, DOULA… OR EVEN AN MD!"
  21. I meant him taking classes at the community college. Here it's a program that the high school offers and the teens can take classes at the CC and the high school pays for it, as long as it's a class the high school doesn't offer. Though some of them are classes at the high school that they can get credit from the community college for taking, and homeschoolers here can do part-time enrollment in public school if they want to.
  22. Assuming he does well enough in the classes, why wouldn't you want him to get credit?
  23. ETC does have an online option.
