  1. If this happens again, I would have the 2nd and 4th grader do whatever they could do without me.

  3. Busy working & homeschooling mom here: I am a midwife. I'm often at a class, or a conference, or a workshop, or prenatal appointments, or a birth... Thus, we have a babysitter that we employ for the days that I'm not home. I assign the kids' schoolwork, she sees that it gets done, and I do the homeschooling on the days that I'm home. You can be busy and have your own interests and still homeschool. The catch being that you do actually have to plan work for your children.
  4. Have any of your children taken the CLEP test for College Algebra? My oldest has completed Saxon Algebra 1 and is currently working on Saxon Algebra 2 and Saxon Geometry. I am thinking about having him take the algebra CLEP at the end of this school year. Any advice? What did your child do to prepare?
  5. My seven year old liked the Magic Tree House books. Has he read those?

  7. I think addition, subtraction, multiplication and division when I hear "math facts."
  8. It doesn't sound like the OP was offered payment.
  9. Yikes. Her children didn't break the table. We had something similar happen years ago. One of ds' friends sat on our Lego table and broke it. His dad came over and fixed the table. No one told me I should have known not to buy it.
  10. They don't have to care for the child if it's too much for them: http://www.bethany.org/main/down-syndrome http://www.chask.org/
  11. My little brother had a college roommate who smoked weed pretty frequently, probably in the dorm. I think he was stuck with him for about half the year.
  12. Did you do the recent Learning How to Learn course on coursera?
  13. Don't go with cultures/geography instead! Story of the World 1 covers that and so much more. I am gearing up for our third go round with SOTW 1 (this is our 9th year homeschooling and doing history) and I am ready to dive into it again.
  14. I finally just opened History of the Ancient World, and am planning to use it for history for my oldest this year. For those of you who are assigning it and using the study guide, how much are you assigning per week?
  15. Does anyone have a link or reference for lining up the History of the Ancient World with Story of the World: Ancient Times? My youngers are going to be doing SOTW and my oldest is ready for something more like History of the Ancient World.
  16. He sounds a lot like my 6 year old (small for his age, wants to be indoors, would rather be at home). He has just started going outside a little bit more, but it's not his preference.
  17. I have dh's ringtone set to "Talk Dirty to Me." I wish I could find that instead.
  18. Having read your post #14, that doesn't sound like a fun playdate at all. I wouldn't use that one experience to assess your dd's behavior.
  19. I sure do! It's usually not planned; it's usually me sending an older kid to help a younger kid with something when I'm busy.
  20. Have you told your dh this and explained that this is why you need his help in keeping the peace?
