  5. our closest TJ is 75min away and I was going to pick up some extra's because it's much cheaper there than locally but refrigerator room is limited, lots of freezer though.......can we freeze it and thaw it? Thanks Emily in il
  6. her video and found it very helpful, wished I'd had it in had 17 years ago with our middle son and school might have been alot more fun. A friend has implemented lots of her ideas cheaply from the dollar store and garage sale items and set it up in her home for 3 of her littles, the older ones help out. hth emily in il http://tacklemedia.com/Home_Page.html

  10. I second that recommendation, it worked well for us.
  11. http://www.recipesecrets.net/blog/recipes/copycat-applebees-walnut-blondie-with-maple-butter-sauce/ I've made these and they're yummy, also substituted with vanilla extracts and no maple and they are more like a blondie, so you can do them either way. Think maybe that's what I'll make tonight................
  12. We're doing General with 7th grade son - 3rd time going through it, oldest did 45-60 min a day - he's an engineering major now, second son struggled more with the reading of a text format and we did the Knowledge Box Central lapbook with it to help reinforce the reading. This time, we're doing it 1/2 paced, first 1/2 of the book this year with mom and the lap books and some living books thrown in to supplement, 2 days a week, history on the other 3 days - his choice on this one this year. Then next year we'll finish up the General coarse hopefully with him more on his own, leaving Physical for 9th, Biology 10th, Chemistry 11th and Physics for 12th, or an elective or junior college if science isn't his bent. I've worked with Donna Young's schedule and her vocabulary bookmarks and have like the pace it was layed out as. JMTC Emily in IL

  16. i like our dyson/animal purple one, it's probably 5 years old, and held up the best of all of ours in the past - kenmore, hoovers; it amazes me the amount of dog hair and cat hair this thing keeps getting up. jmtc emily
  17. I too would say Rod & Staff Grammar, probably Level 5. I have a friend you did this with 3 of her olders, 9th grade, 7 grade and 5th all together - worked well and gave them all a foundation. JMTC, but do any of us use diagramming in real life ? If any of your children are bent in the direction of literary, fine arts, english majors than yes go more in depth. If they understand the parts of speech and can write well - some have a knack for it more than others, more of us need reminding that a sentence needs to have a subject and a predicate together 8). We've used R&S 5th-9th with all of mine ( kinesthetic to audio to visual) learners and they've all grasped the idea without difficulty using the R&S materials - and they're not expensive. HTH emily
  18. based upon Pilgrim's Progress, you might want to check that out. I'm looking at it for doing next year during school. HTH Emily
  19. gusto bowls here are fought over 8) chili, spaghetti, stew and soups, the one that comes with the set we use for leftovers, salads, cereal ect....definately the ones with the coffee mugs and not the teacup/saucer.....white works well with everything, we do eclectic, and have a set of each of 12 different colors, i really like the new brown and cream colored ones together though....for serving we have a square one, platters and the oval serving bowls that are used daily here. hth enjoy the new dishes emily in il
  20. wash with tiny spots that look like oil stains. Now, I'm hard enough on my clothes with cooking, but it's my good ones that I purposely don't have on while cooking so I can go out sometimes. We use Gain liquid and oxiclean, everything is dissolved before placing in clothes, and we use dryer sheets....any idea of the culprit or cause and the cure? Thanks in advance. btw we've also done the home made laundry soap with the water, borax, phels napa, washing soda - can't recall if we had same problem then. thanks
  21. so sorry, been there done that, 3x actually - we have an appliance lock/ like from infant/toddler section of the store on our deep freeze after three incidence; Hamburger; i've made meatballs and patties, cooked and refroze in freezer ziplocs, thaw when ready to serve/heat in sauce and the patties when thawed i place in a big pot with some water and heat them up, they stay moister and not so dry the rest of the ground meat i've browned up and then have ready for taco salad, spaghetti sauce, chili, casseroles, soups Roasts; Crock pot, borrow a neighbor or two if you have several, cook up and shred for casseroles, italian beef, shredded bbq/pork, beef n noodles the bacon, cook on the cookie sheets and refreeze as someone suggested not sure on the ham, but you could cook it up and dice up for casseroles and guess what's for dinner the next few nights fish i pitch, fruits usually don't refreeze well, so we baked a couple batches of muffins and froze them up hth emily
  22. Check out the video at www.tacklemedia.com, she easily shows you how to incorporate montessori at home, low budget from the dollar store and garage sales. Definately not all inclusive but works on specific skills for development, i wished i'd seen it 12 yrs ago and it had been there when my middle one was starting school. Definately a kinestic learner and at the time we were doing sonlight with his older brother and i pushed the reading and such, should have waitied a year, he was no way ready for it all - hind sight is a wonderful thing isn't it. my ds is great with handy, mechanical things, but definately not a reader, unless it's a World magazine or hunting magazine, study manual for his hunting license. He has other strengths and quality in character, but definately not a love of learning or reading, which i feel we squelched early on with doing school too soon and not accommodating his hands on needs. try to find a way to work with both your points of view. jmtc emily in il
  23. typing instructor deluxe from Timberdoodle.com is what we used, boys enjoyed it more than mavis beacon, we even had a mario brothers one that i found when they were young emily in il
  24. I second Geography Songs, my 20 and 18 yr olds still remember them and pull them up from memory when a region comes up in question, youngest learned them be osmosis from his older siblings doing them and now when he did geography last year he already knew the songs/tunes, just had to find the locations.
