  1. We started with Dance Mat and then progressed to Typing Instructor Platinum. I think I paid $10 from Timberdoodle and it has been a big success at my house. Shannon in NC
  2. We have used the Pentime program with 3 of our kids and they have done well with it. If there were too many loops in a particular letter, making it difficult, I would change it and move on. Simple to implement and eventually they can do it independently.
  3. I really like the English Handbook from Christian Light Education http://www.clp.org/p...sh_handbook_767 While it is meant to be used with their LA program, it is a great general resource for any grammar program. Shannon in NC

  5. I would figure about $1000-$1200 for myself to purchase for those ages but like others have said, it truly can vary greatly. Shop around, ask to borrow from others, buy used, etc.. to cut costs, if necessary.
  6. Thank you so much! This will be helpful for Christmas!
  7. Thank you for asking this question and for all the responses. I have been wondering the same thing for my kiddos. My kids last year did PL (2nd, 5th and 6th grade) and this year the 2 olders are doing LC1 and the younger is repeating PL with the intention of better retention and really understanding this year. I now feel confident in skipping LC2 and moving into FF1 with the olders once we are done LC1. Thank you for giving me "permission" to skip a level :001_smile:
  8. Thank you for this thorough review. We will be using this after completing Horizons 6.
  9. Thank you all for your responses. Yes, I guess I was thinking of a graphing calculator but only need the scientific one. If I had done some research, I would have figured that out eventually. I am glad to know that this will be a rather inexpensive purchase. In looking at the Horizon's Pre-Algebra teacher's book more closely, the calculator is mainly used for exponents and calculating compounding interest. I can find maybe a 1/2 dozen times where it is actually used. Not a big deal overall. Sometimes I put the cart before the horse and get myself all worked up over something so simple. Thank you again!
  10. I am looking ahead and need to purchase a scientific calculator for my son to use with Horizon's Pre-Algebra program. Does anyone have any recommendations of good calculators and which (if any) calculators to avoid? I don't want to spend a fortune but also want this calculator to get him through the next several years of math and even possibly be passed down to siblings. Do such calculators exist on a budget? Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
  11. I am thinking of making my own laundry detergent but am not sure if I should do the powder or liquid form. I am used to using liquid, store-bought detergent so that would be familiar but it sounds like a lot more work to make and the quantity is so large. Any thoughts from those who make your own detergent? I have the Duggar's recipe for the liquid detergent and then this one, http://www.diynatural.com/homemade-laundry-detergent-soap/ for the powder version. Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated. Feel free to throw me some of your own suggestions to improve, change the recipes, etc. if you have found something that works really well. I have 5 kids that like to get dirty! Thank you!
  12. Sam's Club. Best prices I could find around here for large quantities.
