  1. My mother in law would totally say she couldn't babysit because she wanted to go TOO, but even she wouldn't be self centered enough to say she wanted to go INSTEAD. And she has crazy ideas about what is appropriate. I'm in Alberta and I'd watch your baby if you're in my area.
  2. I would if my inlaws weren't nuts :001_smile: Atheism wouldn't be a concern at all. He managed to raise your (presumably) devout husband just fine.
  3. Duck tape and duct tape are both correct. Duck tape is actually more correct. Duck-duct tape was originally made from cotton duck (a woven fabric similar to canvas) and it was waterproof like a duck. There is a brand of duck-duct tape called Duck tape. The tape used on actual ductwork is like sticky aluminum foil. Using duck-duct tape would not work very well because heat is the main weakness of duck-duct tape.
  4. He's precious! And I agree with everyone, he does look like an Oliver. Oliver is a great name.
  5. IME non-organic potatoes are treated to prevent growth. They will still grow roots, but never enough leaves. When the roots have grown as far as they can from the nutrients in the potato, the whole thing dies. The most I've ever got was 4 leaves. If they're organic they're good to go though. You can just pop off the root pieces and eat the potatoes anyway. That's what the cheapskate in me always does.
  6. Chocolate totally works on me. And could be why I've gained ~60 lbs since marrying DH, although some of that could be the two kids.
  7. I don't know if you could. Miquon is meant to be grades 1,2 and 3. So all of it would be review. IMO, the value of Miquon is playing with math. It's not the same game when you know the answers (from another method). There might be some value to it. There are other c-rod resources intended for older kids.
  8. :iagree::iagree::iagree: Pretty much exactly. Wanted it for years, got one over the holidays, it's a super blender and the tamper makes nut butters so much easier. The only difference is I never had an immersion blender.
  9. Halfway between Red Deer and Calgary, just off hwy 2. You're moving south of Calgary though, right?
  10. When I was a (fat) kid I didn't float. I tried and the best I could do was about half my face above water and everything else "floating" under the surface. I passed whatever level it was that required floating by being able to tread water. Floating is a survival skill, and so is treading water. I would survive just as long as the floater. So they ticked it off on the checklist. It was an issue when I learned the backstroke though because it's a lot of resistance. But I outgrew my non-floating ways by becoming fatter :glare: and then it wasn't an issue any more. Neither of my kids float. We're just dense.
  11. The android market has about half the apps. Most apps are now made in both iStuff and android versions. I have an Asus netbook (the orginal Eeepc in fact) that I love. I personally would get an Asus rather than a different android brand. But I'm neutral on the ipad vs android tablet debate because google is skynet (If you type "google is" into the search, the first autofill suggestion is '...skynet') but apple is iNet. Same thing under a different name, in a prettier box.
  12. My husband made the man cry when he phoned us. My husband thought it was an actual phone call from microsoft because that's what they guy claimed and we had just bought our first (and last) windows computer. If microsoft is monitoring his computer for "errors" and then phoning to harass us during dinner to fix them, that is breaking all kinds of laws. He is big on privacy and limits on corporations, etc. So he was not gentle.
  13. We are house hunting and were preapproved for 4.6x DH's income just a couple of months ago. We can afford about 3.5-3.75x maximum. I was absolutely shocked that the bank would want to lend us that much.
  14. I think it has to do with personality. My youngest has just recently began reading at this level because his older brother just started reading aloud at this level (Older has speech issues) Little has a strong desire to do everything Older does. And he's stubborn and determined. Etc. Older was more laid back at this age (though he is still intense. Little is just >!INTENSE!< and in more/different ways). And he (Older) may have been reading and we didn't know it because he did not speak well. The typical range is pretty much everything that your poll covers though. I know kids that learned later (7 or 8) and caught up as soon as they took an interest in reading.
  15. For some reason I always thought that "noon" being when the sun is highest in the sky was a biblical concept. Whether on not it is probably isn't relevant when considering the bounds of time zones are man made.
  16. :iagree: In the middle of summer it's not properly dark until 11 here.
  17. I went to the website. All the grade three math problems seem to be tasteless. Like this gem: I expected a collection of more morbid questions, and then normal ones. Not sure why. There appear to be no normal questions.
  18. Is it wrong that my first thought was that I could/should go download them for my kids? They'd love them. But then I'm not a school teacher for a reason.
  19. I wax between my eyebrows (long line of unibrows) but pluck to get the right shape. This is mostly because I can tweeze with glasses on but the same cannot be said for waxing. I can't see well enough without my glasses to trust my waxing. Professionals give everyone the same eyebrows give or take. The measurements are if you drew a straight line from the side of your nose through the corner of your eye to your eye brow, that is the inside limit. Draw a straight line from the corner of your mouth through the corner of your eye to your eyebrow, that is the outer limit. The peak of the arch should fall somewhere between the inner and outer edge of your iris (this depends on your eyes/face shape, but if you're not sure further out is probably better or just get a professional wax and see where it is and keep it there) The rest is a matter of preference and fashion. Thin or thick, pointed or curved, etc.
