I had gestational diabetes as well when I was pregnant with my second child. Some of the things I did:
Cut out all pasta, rice, and white bread
Ate LOTS of peanut butter (helped with sugar cravings)...to this day my son won't eat PB at all...probably because I ate so much when pregnant with him :D
No juices/softdrinks/smoothies etc at all! I only drank water & milk
I regulated my sugar snacks strictly (1 serving of gingersnaps or nilla wafers a day) this helped me ease into the strict diet and allowed me to have a "treat" everyday.
After following the above I found that I actually felt better, only gained about 20lbs that pregnancy, and actually couldn't stand the taste of things high in sugar (co-workers threw a shower for me and insisted that I have a piece of the cake they bought me :glare:) I had one bite and couldn't eat anymore it was so UNBELIEVABLY sweet.
I wish that I had stayed on that diet after giving birth. I have a big sweet tooth and it is hard for me to stay away from juices, sodas, desserts etc.
Best wishes for you and a healthy pregnancy!!!
