  1. So I ended up just neglecting everything else and reading the rest of Gatsby straight through. Wow. I loved it! So far in 2013: 1. Lady Almina and the Real Downton Abbey **** 2. The Great Gatsby ***** Next up: The Night Circus (thanks to the positive reviews here)
  2. I'm halfway through The Great Gatsby, and I'm starting to get a little annoyed at all of the mundane tasks that keep pulling me away from it! I just want to keep reading until the end...
  3. Yesterday I finished Lady Almina and the Real Downton Abbey. I enjoyed reading more about Almina, the castle, and the early 20th century. Can't wait to get back to the show tomorrow! Next up, The Great Gatsby, which I somehow have missed reading until now.
  4. I was skeptical of the Vicks on feet suggestion the first time I heard it, but it really does work wonders!
  5. Jen, I agree 100% about the parental responsibility. I believe that my husband and I are responsible for ensuring that our children get a good education, regardless of whether we homeschool or send him to a brick and mortar school. My son is currently in PS 1st grade, and we look at it as a chance to learn some new things and practice what he already knows. I am well informed about what he is learning at school, and I supplement some subjects or, in the case of subjects that aren't taught at PS, like history, I teach them myself at home. I see his teachers as partners with us in his education. His teacher has commented on how obvious it is that we do lots of learning at home, and she says that is unusual in her experience.
  6. You could be describing my son at that age. He was constantly in trouble at daycare, and we eventually pulled him out. He is in 1st grade now and still has nothing in common with his age mates, but he has learned to coexist with them. I would say that 2.5-4 was the worst period. We talked a lot about emotions and did quite a bit of role play to practice how to react to frustrations. I feel your pain, believe me! It was the most stressful time of my life.
  7. I love my kindle, and I use it every day. It was worth every single penny.
  8. Thanks for the tip! I've been wanting to try Audible while I'm on the elliptical, and this gives me the perfect excuse!
  9. The Christmas episode that just aired is from season 3. If you saw Season 2 and last year's Christmas episode, you should be all set for Season 3.
  10. This book terrified me. Actually, it still terrifies me. I passed it on to my mother, and it terrified her too. Pillars is one of my faves of all time. Not as crazy about the sequel though.
  11. I'm reading Lady Almina and the Real Downton Abbey while I wait for Season 3 to start on Sunday.
  12. Aquaphor worked fairly well on DS. He grew out of it at around age 3, but unfortunately grew into a peanut allergy. Apparently there is a strong correlation, so careful with the nuts.
  13. Our PBS station didn't air it. Instead they showed Downton reruns :(.
  14. I check ereaderIQ (http://www.ereaderiq.com/) for free and cheap books. The free non-classic books are mostly terrible, IMHO. Also check the Kindle Daily Deal and monthly specials on Amazon.
  15. Have you tried posting on the Kindle help forum on Amazon? There are some true power users there who make great suggestions.
  16. Ooh...I loved Wolf Hall and Bring Up The Bodies. Can't wait for the third installment!
  17. Kids have been doing this forever. It's just more high-tech now.
  18. My 2 yo daughter loves Dora ABCs and Team Umizumi Umi Numbers.
  19. My 2.5 year old loves all things Dr. Seuss. She's also a big fan of Our Animal Friends at Maple Hill Farm and The Year at Maple Hill Farm.
  20. My husband and I are both introverts, so we limit the outside stuff. Right now we use our little kids as an excuse to spend Christmas at home. My parents came over for a couple hours, but otherwise it's been just us. It's been heavenly!
  21. No way! It's all mine! I'm going to use it to kick off 52 books in 52 weeks :).
  22. I felt both of mine way before 16 weeks, and I'm definitely not skinny!
