  1. Definitely not mean. But I understand why you are worried about it. I'm an introvert too and so many people who have known me all my life just don't get it. At all.
  2. This week I finished: 17. Outlander-I read this many years ago, but this time I listened to the audiobook. It took me forever to get through it, but Davina Porter is so great that I didn't mind. I started on Dragonfly In Amber, also audio read by Davina Porter. 18. History of the Ancient World-I learned so so much from this book. I'll start on History of the Medieval World tomorrow, hoping to finish before History of the Renaissance World comes out. So far this year: 1. Lady Almina and the Real Downton Abbey (****) 2. The Great Gatsby (*****) 3. The Night Circus (*****) 4. A Study in Scarlet (****) 5. The Red Pyramid (***) 6. The Throne of Fire (***) 7. The Perks of Being A Wallflower (****) 8. The Serpent's Shadow (***) 9. D'Aulaire's Norse Myths (****) 10. Odd and the Frost Giants (****) 11. King Arthur and His Knights of the Round Table (***) 12. A Storm of Swords (****) 13. Robin Hood (***) 14. Started Early, Took My Dog (*****) 15. Redwall (****) 16. Life After Life (*****) 17. Outlander (****) 18. History of the Ancient World (****)
  3. Tim Tebow hasn't been a good QB in the NFL. Then again, you could say the same thing about Sanchez and Garrard. Garrard can be a teacher though. No idea how they decided between Sanchez and Tebow. Coin toss? Definitely not anti-Christian bias.
  4. I'm in NC and I always have to pay tax on Kindle books. I thought everyone was taxed for those.
  5. I was bullied at school for being smart. I was always the first one to finish tests and quizzes, and I can remember sitting at my desk pretending to still be writing so I wouldn't be the first person to walk up to the front of the room to turn in the paper. I agree with Rosie though. What I experienced at school was nothing compared to what I went through at the hands of extended family, who would constantly make fun of me. For having a brain. I still don't get it.
  6. Easy to Love, Difficult to Discipline by Becky Bailey has really changed how I interact with my son, and the results that I get.
  7. My son is in 1st grade in PS. He can read pretty much anything he picks up. He's definitely not the only one in his class, and the teacher is absolutely accommodating. In his class, when they do "read to self" thy choose from books based on their current reading level. We are also allowed to send books in if we want.
  8. My son is in 1st grade at what is considered in this area to be a good public school. They spend 4 hours out of the 6 1/2 hour school day doing reading, writing, grammar, spelling, and math. The other 2 1/2 hours are spent on science, art, music, PE, or media (each once per week for 1 hour) and lunch and recess (1 1/2 hour total). He brings math and spelling homework home on Friday and has to turn it in by the following Friday. There isn't much, and the math is way too easy, but that's OK with me because it gives me more time to afterschool with a more challenging math program, along with history and science. We also do tons of reading (both to each other and to ourselves). I look at PS as a great place to practice all of the things that we are learning at home :).
  9. I'm a few weeks behind on posting, but I'm still keeping up. In the past few weeks I've finished: 13. Robin Hood (Green) (***): I read this one aloud to my son. He loved it. 14. Started Early, Took My Dog (*****): This is the last (for now, hopefully not forever) in Kate Atkinson's Jackson Brodie series. I adore Kate Atkinson and love this series. I hurried to finish this one before the release of her newest (see #16 below). 15. Redwall (****): Another read aloud. Both my son and I enjoyed this one. 16. Life After Life (*****): Kate Atkinson's latest, and it was just as good as I had hoped it would be. Very clever premise, flawlessly executed. Life After Life (*****)
  10. When my son was in K we did math, reading, history and science.
  11. I would start at the beginning. Daniel Craig is good, but he's no Sean Connery. Start with Dr. No and go from there.
  12. I'm continuing the theme with Robin Hood (reading to my son) and When Christ and His Saints Slept by SK Penman (rereading to self before picking up the newest in the series). What can I say? I'm a sucker for smiting :).
  13. This week I finished #11: King Arthur and His Knights of the Round Table (Green version). Lots of smiting going on in that one. Also #12: A Storm of Swords. Even more smiting. Loved it. So far this year: 1. Lady Almina and the Real Downton Abbey 2. The Great Gatsby 3. The Night Circus 4. A Study in Scarlet 5. The Red Pyramid 6. The Throne of Fire 7. The Perks of Being A Wallflower 8. The Serpent's Shadow 9. D'Aulaire's Norse Myths 10. Odd and the Frost Giants 11. King Arthur and His Knights of the Round Table 12. A Storm of Swords
  14. I really enjoyed the first book, and I just grabbed #2 and 3 and preordered 4 with today's deal. They are definitely worth 99 cents each, IMHO. Of course, I'm a huge historical fiction/mystery/crime fan, so YMMV.
  15. Best fast food customer service ever! And best nuggets too.
  16. This week I finished #10: Odd and the Frost Giants. I'm noticing that my list is heavy on read-alouds. I need to find more time to read my own books! Odd and the Frost Giants
  17. Total time suck. But my 6yo loves it.
  18. My 6 yo loooooves SOTW. He likes to listen to a chapter, then act it out with Legos :).
  19. My 6 year old has enjoyed: Harry Potter series Rick Riordan books (all of them) D'Aulaire's Greek and Norse myths Odd and the Frost Giants King Arthur (Green version) Mr. Popper's Penguins Fantastic Mr. Fox
  20. This week I finished #8: The Serpent's Shadow and #9: D'Aulaire's Norse Myths. Couldn't wait for #8 to end. Wish #9 was twice as long. D'Aulaire's Norse Myths In progress: 1. A Storm of Swords 2. History of the Ancient World 3. Sense and Sensibility 4. Outlander (audiobook) 5. Beautiful Creatures
  21. My home state's motto is "Mountaineers Are Always Free", which I've always loved. The motto of the state I live in now is "To Be, Rather Than To Seem". Huh?
  22. I bought the Stay Smart Workbook because it was much cheaper than her others. I haven't used it yet though, so I can't review.
