  1. I LOVE the episode 'Endgame'!! No matter how many times I watch it I always tear up at the end. It would be an excellent episode for different leadership styles, but it is a double episode. The other episode you're talking about is 'Year of Hell' it is another double episode. I think Voyager and DS9 would have the most varied leadership styles. Those series have a more varied interaction with different cultures. An episode from the last season of DS9 would have many different cultures coming together in quite a few of the episodes.
  2. Actually he is 10, but I guess it is time I put on some pants.
  3. He requested that I no longer teach in boxers or my bathing suit bottoms. He says he can't take me seriously. DS also requested I lock up the 4yo during lessons since he can be a distraction, but I'm not giving into that one.
  4. I took DHs name without even thinking twice about it... till about six months later when I started wishing I had hyphenated. 14 years later I am starting the process to legally change my last name to my maiden name-his last name. DH is supportive, when I finally brought it up he said he always wondered why I hadn't hyphenated in the first place.
  5. Thank you so much for this! I have wanted to go back to school for years but I am so nervous about being able to do well. I am quite sure this will help me prepare myself!
  6. I receive poor customer service at many places. I can't say that I have ever received poor customer service at the PO. Maybe a little indifference, but never outright rudeness. I have never had a single problem with mail/package delivery. The PO would be fine financially if Congress would left the required amount they are forced to contribute to pensions. I am in no way against pensions, but the fact they are required to put money away for future employees is ridiculous.
  7. I love my Vitamix, even though I make more aioli in it than green smoothies:tongue_smilie: When I do make green smoothies I put half a cup of coconut or almond milk in, I think it makes a smoother texture.
  8. I will never participate in another co-op. Over the last 2 years we have tried 3 different ones and the drama that comes along with it is so not worth it. I will stick to park days.
  9. I understand when you say its more like an honor to be the team mom than a need. I was room mom for DDs first grade class. I didn't need to be it, but I was honored when asked. It is near impossible to win with a person like this. Have you been asked for the upcoming year? While I think the best thing would be for you to not work with her again. I don't think you should go quietly away. When giving your answer say something like "You know, she seems to think its a competition and doesn't let me do anything. It makes me uncomfortable. I think I am going to pass this year. But if you need me for anything in the future, I am here" in a very laid back way and leave it at that. Your not complaining about her, you are just stating your feelings and not expecting him to anything about the situation, but you are making him aware of it. Then do not contribute for the gift, give your own. Or casually mention to the other parents while sitting in the stands that you think a gift certificate would be a great gift this year. Get other parents on board with it. There is no way to hide how much money is spent on a gift certificate. Just make sure you pick up the card and have everyone sign it.
  10. I tried contacting the admin. but did not get any response. I guess I could start another name, but I am pretty proud of those 108 post (109 now) And my level 2: nurse bee. I also have a ton of subscribed threads containing info that I think I need. I just want a different name!
  11. Say if I no longer wanted to be MollyAnn, is there a way to change to something different?
  12. As with all scouting programs it all comes down to the individual troop and leader. Girls Scouts is a tradition in my family, my daughter is 5th generation and I have been her leader since the beginning. She will be starting her 8th year this fall. I love Girl Scouts, but I will be honest and say I am not that thrilled with the current program. I work mainly out of the older books. We stay with GS because of the tradition I mentioned above and also because they are so recognized and there are so many oppurtunties beyond badges and current program. As the girls get older they start working on the big awards: Bronze, Silver, and Gold which teaches them to reach out to their communities, find needs and ways to help. Awards are also earned by helping their councils, helping out at events and leading younger girls. The Gold award opens up scholarships and also allows girls to enter the military at a higher rank. Then there are the Desinations, Girl Scouts is world wide and there are trips available to every corner of the planet! DD is saving money to travel to Paris and Costa Rica. It all starts as Daisies and Brownies doing crafts and small service projects like cleaning up a park. I will say if you want the hiking, camping, and outdoor skills you might have to volunteer to be the leader yourself and find the older Girl Scout books. You can find them at online used book site. I have quite a growing collection. Also look at Boy Scout books. I really enjoy being my daughters leader, I have a lot of fun on the outings too, most recently we did a Zoo Overnight. Girl Scouts provides trainings and there are monthly leader meetings so you are never alone. Some of my best friends I met at the leader meetings. There is always a need to leaders, if you wanted to become the leader you will have no problem finding girls to be in your troop. After saying all that, there is a new program called Frontier Girls. They started in 2007 and they look pretty well put together and their program is based on the outdoor skills. They aren't very big yet, there are no local support systems so you are pretty much on your own. They are not religious, but they do stress patriotism. They are worth checking out.

  14. My favorite Barbra Kingsolver Book is 'The Bean Trees' I have read it so many times. 'The Handmaidens Tale' still haunts me and keeps me up at night thinking about it. I didn't see them mentioned and I know that they are the "cool" books to be reading right now but I thought The Hunger Games trilogy was an incredible read. I was so caught up in them that it took me weeks to stop obsessing about them. I found it so hard to get into another book that I had to read the series again. If you like something lite but entertaining Susan Elizabeth Phillips writes good chic lit, and Jennifer Crusie's 'Agnes and the Hitman' had me laughing all the way through it.
  15. I read about that guy putting the baby on the floor and fleeing. I told DH I give that relationship a month. There is no way to come back from that. I think we will start hearing the hero stories soon.
  16. I couldn't even make it through the sample pages, the writing is horrible!! The reviews were great!!
  17. Just googled it. Read way to much. I don't care what they call it, it is mental and physical spousal abuse!!! Talking about spanking, prolonged adolescence of girls (and only girls), failed attempt at equality. Nonconcentual consent, so in the middle of an arguement a woman can't say no to the punishment her husband decides to give her. It's disgusting!!! An attempt to put women at the same level as children. Where is that brain bleach???!!!!!
  18. I know there are a ton of bag/purse makers on Etsy. Some will even do custom so if have an idea of the perfect purse but can't find it, someone could make it for you. Most of the prices are very reasonable.
  19. That is the same one we have, from the same place. They have worked out great.
  20. You can only have one instant streaming queue, but if you can have two DVD queues. I have a second one set up for the kids.
  21. That's wonderful! Congratulations!! I am from West Michigan- the situation there is why we currently live in Texas. I would love to go home.
