  1. For boys names I wanted Cole, Cade, or Cullen. (It was before I was aware of Twilight) For girl names I wanted Bridget, Bronwyn, or Delia. DH hated all of them. A girl name I have always loved is Ainsley. DH doesn't remember me suggesting it when I was pregnant with DD and swears that if I had, DD would be named that.
  2. Hawaii. I have been there twice and absolutely love it there. I would move there in a heartbeat.
  3. DH's present is the iPad he bought himself last month. I might get him sound reducing earphones for it, he travels a lot.
  4. My DD takes art class from another homeschooling mom who is an incredible artist. We pay $10 per 1 hour group class, $20 for a 1 hour private class. Supplies are included. There is a studio in town that offers four 90min classes for $100 plus the cost of supplies.
  5. They can start showing results as soon as pools close and precincts start reporting. The east doesn't have to wait for the west.
  6. I know this thread is a couple days old, but I LOVE Cary Grant so I have to add my own. Father Goose Operation Petticoat His Girl Friday People Will Talk Mr Blanding Builds His Dream House There is not an actor today who even comes close to the charm of Cary Grant. He was amazing.
  7. What jerks they are!! 12 is not too old! DD is 12 and she went out tonight, already planning next years costume. As long as they are in costume I have no problem giving them candy!
  8. There were tons of kids in our neighborhood; looked like how it does in the movies.
  9. We had the same tradition! Drove me crazy when I was a kid, and now I drive my kids crazy with it! People tell me I am very mean to make my kids eat breakfast before presents, I don't care. It makes Christmas morning last longer! I have broke tradition once and that was when youngest DS was two and just did not understand why he couldn't have his presents and was crying hysterically. It's about enjoying a prolonged morning, not naming everyone miserable! We also have another tradition that drove me crazy when I was a kid but now I delight in. Whenever there is a question about presents or the kids ask for something, we sing "Christmas is coming, tra-la tra-la" That starts tomorrow!
  10. Mine fight all the time. I ignore it till it gets physical or I just can't handle listening to it. Then I threaten chores or I send them outside.
  11. All working together doesn't work here. I have three kids and it never fails that DD does more than the boys. Chores need to be separate for fairness. Something that I have started is when they think they are done they need to have me check it and then get permission to be done. If I find them doing something other than the chore without asking permission, they get another chore. Can't say how it will work long term, like I just said we just started this.
  12. I don't arrange my house to accommodate people who don't live there. My parents visit a few times a year, my parents get the kids beds and the kids sleep on air mattresses. Your MIL doesn't live there, why make your girls live on top of each other while a room sits empty most of the time? If you are determined that MIL has her own room, give the girls the master.
  13. There is a good chance we will be moving to the Denton County area in the spring. Can anyone point me in the right direction for groups and programs for homeschoolers in the area? I really appreciate it!! I know about the Denton County Homeschool Association, I am trying to find something a little more inclusive.
  14. There was a post about making a flip map devise with a laundry cart. I though I had saved the thread, but I can't find it. I want to make my own, but I would like to see how someone else did it. Anyone have any idea what I am talking about?
  15. :iagree: DD is 12 this year and I keep teasing her that it is her last year, but as long as she dresses up she can go. A couple of years ago we were out trick or treating and a car drove up and parked next to us. The driver was a teen girl dressed as a princess and her passenger was a quite tall and built football player. They both had bags and started going door to door.
  16. I liked the Sleeping Beauty books. I had them in hard cover and for some strange reason I donated them during one of our many moves. The lit erotica web site is pretty good, some stories are incredible and others are really bad. I read a lot of romance. My favorites are Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series. The last few books in the series have been bad, but the first dozen are really good. Karen Marie Moning's Highlander series is really good. I don't care for her Fever series at all. For some fun romance Jennifer Crusie's 'Welcome to Temptation' 'Faking It' and 'Agnes and the Hitman'
  17. I use their first names which MIL was annoyed by. I was expected to call her Mrs. Last Name forever.
  18. My kids do TKD; they have been training for 3 1/2 years and recently tested for their black belts. They are in incredible shape, strong. My DS 10 likes to flex and I am in awe of how defined his muscles are just from TKD. They know their self defense too. DH and I mess around with them and however we grab them, they break the hold. At park day last week all the kids were playing some tackling game and I watched DS side step and flip a boy that was bigger than him. He came up laughing "I forgot you do martial arts" The only thing is, it took my kids 3 years do get where they are, TKD is a process that they have to put the effort into. Can't phone it in and get the results. I want to do Krav Maga because I want the know how NOW, lol. I don't have anywhere around me that teaches it though. In my research, most Krav Maga won't take anyone under 15.
  19. I would probably feel the exactly same way as you do if put in a similar situation. However, this is one those times in life where you just have to suck it up and do the right thing.
  20. I didn't wait for marriage and I don't regret that decision. I do regret some of the situations I put myself in in regards to sex and those situations have caused some baggage that I try to work through. I don't want my kids to wait till marriage. I do hope they avoid the mistakes I made and wait till a good relationship where they love and are loved. I would prefer they be graduated from HS.
  21. I'm not trying to bring a mommy war to family affection. I didn't mean to sound accusatory or anything. I truly just think its strange that at some age people would stop allowing kisses on the mouth. What changes at age 5 or 10 or whatever that makes kissing on the mouth no longer acceptable? I should clarify; I don't kiss my extended family or my in laws on the mouth, but that's because I don't like them.
  22. I'm not a Christian and I don't consider myself to be too overly concerned with modesty, but I don't think this is really a case of wanting your girls to be modest. It's a case of not wanting your girls to be sexualized! There is no reason a 4yo and an 8yo need to shake their butts and roll their hips in front of an audience. The fact that out of 40 girls you were the only parent to have concerns is disturbing in its own right. I have caught some of the cheer competitions while channel surfing and in some of those routines there might as well have been poles on the stage. For the girls anyway; I noticed the boys on the squads weren't doing the same moves. I fully recognize that cheerleading is a sport. A lot of hard work goes into it. However, it's not right that girl has to demean herself to be considered good.
  23. I still kiss my parents on the lips. I also kiss my kids (12, 10, 4) on the lips often every day. I find it strange that so many of you find something wrong with kissing your kids.
