  1. Because of our economy in the states..our dollar is worth less here in Europe. The euro rate for housing and all the extra expenses we pay for here are killling us. We make extremely good money, but I can't imagine the younger couples living here. It's really expensive to shop on the economy for just the basic things they don't have on post. Definitely doing things a little different in our house.
  2. I know exactly how you feel. Hang in there and eat chocolate and cry and then buck up. ((hugs)):)
  3. I'm curious because I've only read 3 of the 888 books for this year and I'm doing Reading the Bible in a year also. I feel like I'm so falling behind. Plus...I got all my new school stuff in for 5th grade to put together everything for next year and I just keep eyeballing that stuff. So how much time do you get to read and when do you do it?:D
  4. I've finished 3...I'm basically waaaayyyyy behind. Hoping for some reading time this weekend.
  5. Stephanie..I'm praying for peace and a good outcome for your son. Please try and take care of yourself. ((Hugs))
  6. I take my potatoe and cut it in half, thin slice an onion and stuff it in there. Close it up, wrap with tin foil and cook for 2 hours on 350*.....when it comes out add any fixings you want..yum!:D
  7. I'm going to be finished in early May with A Beka 4th grade. I save his work, but I usually pass on the teachers guides to my friend. She's leaving next month and isn't homeschooling anymore. What do you guys do with these...I've never sold anything like this, so I'm curious about pricing and such. Thanks!:D
  8. That sounds awesome to me. :D We've had little to no snow here this year...send me some. ;)
  9. We don't pay our children at all. Our 20 year old pays all her own expenses, she works full time. Our 18 year old will graduate in May and is going back to work full time then, she part-time now. She pays all her own expenses. Our 9 year old is expected to help out gladly. We take the kids all out to dinner at least once or twice a month, when I go shopping I usually buy each one something they might like or want..which is usually once a month.
  10. They will do great. My girls are 2 years and 3 months apart and they often surprised me at how well equipped they were. I would leave them around that age for several hours and they did beautifully. I always left them with the expectation that I expected them to do beautifully as well. If you know what I mean...;)
  11. All my kids like healthy, home cooked food. They would rather eat at home than out and don't really care for the traditional junk food. I thinks it's just because it's all they have ever known. I like cooking from scratch and the food just taste really good.;);)
  12. When my girls were that age they went to bed at 9:30 with lights out by 10pm...they were up by 7:30am.
  13. This year was 1000 per child. I've already ordered next year for my 5th grader and I'm well under 1000. When we move he will be doing sports/music lessons...so that will be a factor in the fall.
  14. I read: World Magazine Southern Living Christian Women Today Guidepost Angel
  15. Nope..I live in an awesome home that have shades that go down on the outside of the house we close these every night. We have 2 sets of secuity doors and a brave border collie. I feel completely safe here...more so than in the states.
  16. I just unloaded 150 books in the past 2 weeks. Boy my shelves look so much better.
  17. Here's our schedule in a nutshell: Bible with music which is hymns Reading Penmanship Grammar Spelling Power Math History Science PE...running with our border collie, trampoline, walking 2.5 miles The only class that is occasional is art at about once or twice a week. Our school day takes 6 hours and he's in 4th grade. 12th grader: Business Math Econ English 12 with Vocabulary Spanish II Marine Biology Every subject, everyday. She finished up Speech last semester.
  18. Here in our little house if you don't do your school work without complaint..you do manual, hard labor. You can either work with your brain or work with your hands...either way..your going to work. It usually takes one day of hard labor--cleaning grout with toothbrush, hand washing the floors, etc. You get the picture. I don't tolerate complaining, whining, fussing with me. I do things I don't feel like doing everyday and don't complain and so can you. When the kids were small..this was reinforced often and it's never been a real problem. I just when through a little bout with my 9 year old...he prefers working with his brain...now that's all I have to say. Brain or Hands???:D
