  1. I like mine most of the time. It's a little more common these days than when I was born in the '70's. One of my professors mistakenly called me Cherokee (a couple of times) and one of dh's bosses called me Iroquois. :glare: I do have a teency bit of Native American in me, but not enough to warrant my name. My mom saw in on a Chevy pickup and liked it. My family (including dh) has always called me Chey for short. Chickenpatty (a.k.a. Cheyenne)
  2. My mom is 48 and her middle name is Lynn. I can't remember how she spelled it - her maiden name took its place when she married.
  3. My house is pale yellow, too. We opted for no shutters and have yet to paint our door. If we could afford it, I would get a solid wood door - with a natural/medium stain. Otherwise, I'm considering dark blue or black. :)
  4. Heeheehee! I am dying with laughter here. Good thing the kids aren't close by.
  5. So cute! What kind are they? How many did you get? I remember how much fun it was to pick ours up from the post office. They were making quite a racket & I think the postal workers were glad to be rid of them. :)
  6. Mine is four years old and has a few scratches, too. That is a bummer. However, I can get it to look nice again by using Soft Scrub (the kind with bleach). The scratches are still there, but it looks nice and shiny white.
  7. I won't be running a race anytime soon, but there is one coming up in November that I may do. It's marathon, 1/2 marathon or an 8k. I can't decide between the 8k or the 1/2 m. If I do the 8k, it would be just for fun, no pressure, and I may be able to convince some girlfriends to run with me. If I choose the 1/2, I'd have to get serious and would have to run alone. However, running a 1/2 has been one of my life-goals, so it'd be sweet to get it done. I dunno... ? (And then there's the thought in the back of my mind that I might be preggo by then, too. But that's a whole 'nother issue.) Any thoughts or advice?
  8. First of all, I think a 53 minute 10k is awesome, and now, thanks to you sharing that, I am experiencing PCD! That's a full 10 minutes faster than my 10k. :D I do know what you mean - when I ran my first 10k in March, it was killing me to see people pass me, especially older or heavier people. :glare: :001_smile:
  9. I wouldn't change just because 2 kids don't like tomatoes. However, I remember wayyy back when I was in elementary school, and man came and showed us how to cook omelets. It was the coolest thing. You can have all kinds of fixin's to go in them, and customize that way. :)
  10. At ds4's first dentist checkup 3 weeks ago, it was discovered that he has 3 large cavities, one of them possibly needing a root canal. Our dentist referred us to a pediatric dentist, because he thought the ped. dentist could do all the work while ds was "under" and he wouldn't be traumatized and all that. Three years ago, ds fell onto asphalt and broke his front tooth. He has never had any pain or discoloration in it. Our regular dentist said it didn't pose a problem unless we weren't comfortable with the way it looked. We chose to leave it as it was. Today, we saw the pediatric dentist, and in addition to 3 pulpotomies, he says that the broken front tooth needs a pulpectomy and a strip crown. He says that it he would like to do it, because the break is close to the nerve and could get infected and abscess. But, I am thinking, it has been fine for 3 years, and will fall out in another 2-3 years, so do we really need to do anything? (Also, besides the three pulpotomies, he also has 4 small cavities in between some teeth.:scared:) Should I seek a second opinion? What do the dental experts here think? I would really appreciate your thoughts. I promise we brush his teeth regularly and he rarely has juice or sweet drinks!!
  11. I've worn contacts for about 15 years, and I still have a hard time with anyone else doing anything to my eyes. I really struggle with keeping my eyes open for that shooting air test, too. However, when I put my contacts in, I am in control and that is all the difference. It did take a little while getting used to putting them in, but it wasn't bad at all. My dh got them last year after years of wearing glasses & he did fine, too. :)
  12. Get a bottle of Goya Mojo sauce from the store. It's in the mexican food section. Shred the meat & pour the sauce over. Serve with warm tortillas & cheese & sour cream. So good! Someone here recommended it to me a while back and now we love it!
  13. I would tell my boys, and we'd take them deep into the woods and have a blast throwing & exploding them against trees! Seriously! :D For some reason it is so satisfying to throw an egg and watch it splat! :tongue_smilie:
  14. I like to make soup - either chicken noodle or vegetable beef, homemade bread, and brownies. The soup reheats well & I almost always have the ingredients on hand.
  15. Mmmm! I LOVE that stuff! After reading all these delicious responses, I see a trip the asian grocery is in order. Have you ever had chapche? The noodle stuff with bulgogi in it?
  16. Oh, I forgot about this recipe! A filipino friend gave it to me years ago. She called it adobo. I've made it with wings in the past & it was really good. I may end up using this one! I do need to bring more than one dish, though, so more ideas would be greatly appreciated!
  17. I've brought bulgogi and a mexican bean dip type of dish in the past. I'm looking for something simple, but not boring. It also can't require any exotic ingredients, because the nearest store that might carry them is 50 minutes away. Any ideas? Oh, it also has to taste really good. :D
  18. We're listening to the audio version of it in the van. So, all of my children (ages 1-10) are hearing it and enjoying it. Even my 4 yr old asks me to turn it on before I can get the van started. It's one of our favorites!
  19. LOL! We're having a new drainfield installed today, so my boys are in heaven! Well, actually, they're kinda miserable because I won't let them off the porch.:D There is a huge backhoe in my backyard and it's digging a series of 6ft deep trenches. My 7yr old ds was chomping at the bit to get into one of those trenches! Poor dh is at work, but has requested that I take lots of pictures for him. :001_smile:
  20. Same here. I only remember reading excerpts of books in my Literature textbooks. I'm making up for lost time now, though.
  21. I like to make turkey or egg salad and have it with tortillas. Fruit and pretzels or popcorn might make up the rest. We like bread and lunchmeat, too, but lol, i consider that a luxury item. Good deli meat can be expensive!
  22. My dh is an "acts of service" and "touch" kinda guy. So... very recently I started doing a few extra things for him. They don't sound romantic (or spicy) but they do reinforce our love for each other, which leads to spicy-ness. :) I've started (with the kids) serving him breakfast in bed on Sunday mornings. He really likes that (as do the kids). Another is that I will cook breakfast on weekday mornings that he can take with him. He loves a hot breakfast! Another is that I've started taking the trash out for him (meaning loading it in our van and driving it to the dump!). :001_wub: Oh, and I got a new spicy outfit (for his eyes only), which he really likes. That certainly helps.:001_tt1: :coolgleamA:
