  1. My dh prefers relatively long hair, too. He doesn't like it as much when it gets more than half-way down my back, but likes it no shorter than an inch or two below my shoulders. He thinks (and I don't necessarily agree with him on this) that short hair makes women look fatter and often looks like helmets!
  2. We have six kids in two bedrooms. Thankfully, we have an even split: three boys in one room, and three girls in the other. I like the idea of using the garage as the playroom. That way, all the kids need in their rooms are beds and dresser(s).
  3. The verdict is in... I made them without peanut butter, boiling the stuff until the soft ball stage. And now there are none left! They were a hit. I personally would have liked them better with peanut butter. But that's fine, since I'm not supposed to be eating them anyway. The only problem was that they turned into cement in the pot because I didn't wash it right away. Now it's soaking in the sink. Hopefully it will come off!
  4. I am this way, too, except I'm 32. My thyroid is now under control, but my metabolism is still low. I was gaining weight, even while running 20+ miles a week. A couple of weeks ago, I started counting calories & I have lost about 8 pounds. It was suprising to realize just how many calories I ate - and not junk food, either. I'm now around 1200-1500 calories a day while continuing my running and I'm still losing. It is hard, but nice to finally see some results!
  5. Yes, it is definitely worth it to take someone with you who knows what to look for. We purchased a used piano a few years ago. It sounded fine, had held its tune well and to me, the inside looked practically new. However, when I had it tuned this past summer, the tuner was unable to tune the top octave because on that end of the piano, it was actually pulling apart! I hadn't noticed! Now, it can't even be tuned to universal pitch (I think that's what its called).
  6. I knew she was sick earlier, but now she really sounds bad. very hoarse, noisy breathing. Pediatrician is open tomorrow morning, pray that she makes it through the night w/o an ER visit. :(
  7. Leftover curry w/rice. Also need to make stromboli for a quick lunch tomorrow.
  8. My boys do all the typical stuff (legos, playdough...). Their favorite past-time is building with the couch cushions. Today, of all things, they've decided to start sewing. I guess after watching their sisters make things they wanted to try it to. My 5 year old made a pillow (sort of). And the 7 year old is cutting out shapes and sewing them onto a piece of fabric. The 4 yr old just liked the thrill of handling a needle and sharp scissors. (Oh, and he also enjoyed cutting fabric into millions of tiny bits.) An idea I haven't used yet, but sounded nice, was to fill a large container about 1/4 of the way with macaroni noodles and let them play in that with trucks, spoons, etc... I've done this with sand in the past & it was hard to clean up. The noodles would be easier.
  9. That sounds good! A lot of bang for your buck. I don't have any big meal recipes, yet. For lunch I had 4 baked corn torillas with a little bit of cheese sprinkled on them and served with a lot of salsa. That was about 240 calories & was crunchy, salty, yummy. Any low caloried snack ideas?? (Besides popcorn) I've lost 8 pounds in the past 2 weeks, by counting calories (in addition to my regular exercising). 12 pounds to go!
  10. Lately, I feel like all I notice from them (ages 7, 5 and 3) are the loud noises and the big messes they make. Help me appreciate them. Any articles, Bible verses, "they will turn out okay" stories, etc... would be very helpful! Cheyenne, mom to three greeks and three barbarians!
  11. That is so true! We stock up on meat when it is on sale. For instance, turkeys were recently on sale for $.69 a pound. Fresh pork roasts (which make wonderful barbeque, among other things) are often on sale for $.99 a pound and go a long way. Most stores have their sales flyers online, so you can plan your grocery list and menu strategically.
  12. These are ones my five year old has remembered and told me (numerous times). Why did the Silly Billy put his pillow in the fireplace? Because he wanted to sleep like a log. Why did the Silly Billy tiptoe past the medicine cabinet? So he wouldn't wake the sleeping pills.
  13. No tomatoes or strong flavors, like herbs or peppers. Cheese is good. ?? Thanks!:)
  14. This is really easy and really cheap. I usually double it, making a batch at the beginning of the week, every other week. It is a recipe for crockpot refried beans. It is a little runny, so I spoon it into bowls, sprinkle with cheddar, and serve with chips. All six of my kids love it. Dh and I usually like other stuff with it, like salsa and sour cream. http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Refried-Beans-Without-the-Refry/Detail.aspx
  15. Yes, I'm waiting, too. I've already prepared my typed acceptance speech. LOL, j/k... My title was "Junior, fearing for one calf nut at a time." :)
  16. I'm crocheting a rag rug right now. This is the website that got me started http://vintagechica.typepad.com/the_life_and_times_of_thi/2006/10/rag_rug_tutoria.html It is my first one ever and it is turning out really cute. I'm using old sheets and dollar fabric from walmart. If you ask me a question, and I don't respond, it's because I am still figuring out the new board. :)
