  1. I'm brainstorming here (look out!)... Dh and I have about 6 acres of wooded beachfront property about 1 1/2 hrs from our home. I wonder if we could put a yurt on it? And, I wonder if we could rent out that yurt? Does this sound at all feasible? A relative has a beautiful beach house on the adjacent lot that he rents out for big $$. Our yurt would be unseen, so that's not an issue, just some extra background info. The whole area is wooded and virtually untouched. Hmmmm.... Any thoughts? A yurt would be something we could afford. Hmmmm...
  2. I use Glad plastic bags. They are very cheap, and are closed with a twist-tie, not a ziplock.
  3. That is sooooo neat! Did you say that Daisy is preggo? Will she keep producing milk right up to birth? Don't stop sharing about Daisy! It is fun to read about your experience with her!
  4. So far, what we have enjoyed the most as a family is gardening! We have planted tons, and each kid has his or her own little plot as well. We work together in the mornings and evenings. Tonight we dug a few potato plants and we all enjoyed seeing the fruit of our labors. We also like the pool and the sprinkler. We will probably get the ice cream maker out and use that a couple of times this summer.
  5. I totally forgot how prone dd is to getting swimmer's ear, and after only one day in the pool (yesterday), her ear is hurting. Can we treat this at home??
  6. Oh good! I must say I think about your post every time I go to the library now. We've discovered a new one recently, as well. (Well, dh did - it's a block from where he works.) But, ack! - we currently have items checked out from 3 different libraries! I love (most) libraries!
  7. I realized we have lots of sassafras growing on our property and thought the kids might enjoy making s. tea. Anyone ever make this?
  8. We're going camping soon with a couple other families. We're going to take turns making the meals. Any really good (and kid friendly) ideas? :001_smile:
  9. That is cool! What is the texture like? Is it shreddable, or mainly spreadable? What kind of goats do you have?
  10. I pay in chocolate chips. It's funny how the boys take such pleasure in laying out and counting each fly carcass. But, we're dealing with them here and I HATE them! LOL, several times, I have almost come to this board and posted with a subject line only of "I HATE flies!" We have chickens, so I thought that might be the source. ? The chickens aren't close to our house, though. ? Either way, they're nasty creatures and they make me so aggravated!
  11. From what I've read, most pumps are "swimmable" or detachable for swimming. Have you visited the Children with Diabetes board? It has been extremely helpful to me. The address is http://forums.childrenwithdiabetes.com/forumdisplay.php?f=3 :001_smile:
  12. I was wondering - do any of your type 1's have a pump? And what kind? I think our endo will tell us more about it at dd's next visit. From the snippets we have heard already, dd really wants one. Dh, on the other hand, is opposed to it. I think he will be okay with it, though, once he knows more about it and how much dd wants it.
  13. Yes - my 9 yr old dd was diagnosed in February. She's doing relatively well, but, well, diabetes really stinks! I must concur with the others, though, that homeschooling is really ideal for dealing with the diabetes. I can't imagine how hard/tricky it would be to send her to school.
  14. Chicken Parmesan tonight. Not sure about the other nights, but I think we'll be having stromboli on Saturday.
  15. :thumbup1: Way to go to you and your daughter! That is great!
  16. Wow! That sounds wonderful! But how do you manage the weeds? My back is killing me from weeding our potatoes this morning!
  17. Can you borrow a goat from someone? We have loads of it all over our five acres, so there's no way we can kill it with roundup. At least one of my kids has a case of it at any given time.
  18. I've tried to read it a couple of times, but haven't had much success. I don't have anything against it - it just didn't hold my attention. It is still sitting on my shelf.
  19. I'm 32 and my mom is 48! My grandmother is 66! I was the "old" mother in my family when I had my first at age 22.
