  1. http://serc.carleton.edu/microbelife/yellowstone/viruslive.html From a quick Google search, it appears there is some controversy.
  2. It is all text. That doesn't seem to happen in the classes. If a student consistently gets and sends in the answers, their answer will get posted at least a couple times during class.
  3. we liked it a lot. Well, there is an online class 1x a week for 1.5 hours. Questions are welcomed. Also, before the class you are to read through the chapter, doing some of the problems to get a general idea of the material. Message board problems are posted after class to practice the material covered. Any questions about these can be asked on the message board. If you have trouble with the problems, you can also do more of the problems in the textbook. Challenge sets are due every three weeks. These cover the previous three weeks' material and detailed feedback is given on these. Yes, they correspond to the textbook. Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 both use the Introduction to Algebra textbook. The classes do move fast, probably faster than most would if using the books at home.
  4. I think 9th grade is way too much. That's 10 credits and almost all of them look like very academic and time consuming credits. That would mean something around a 12 hour school day at least! Also, do you realize that CLEP is basically the same as AP? That's nine credits of very heavy classes. Still a lot, IMO. Nine credits. It is a hard schedule. Eight credits. All but one of these are AP or CC. That's a lot! Overall, it is a heavy schedule. 10 AP's + 6 CC classes is a lot. Will your dd be happy with eight to nine classes every year? What about hobbies and extracurriculars? What about electives following her interests? Is that what the CC elective slots are for? To me, this looks more like an Ivy prep education, than a top state school.

  6. I just want to intrject that I would be horrified if my church leaders were eating live animals. :thumbdown: :sad: We normally do pie in the face...
  7. Also, 6/5 is 5th grade math...generally people go by the lower number. So, he actually tested one grade ahead.:001_smile: I don't know exactly how he did on the test, but he might be able to go into 7/6.
  8. :001_huh: You've never heard of Al-Gebra before? :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

  10. I just wanted to say thank you to you, for your service.:patriot:
  11. Thank you for all the suggestions. I have ordered some of the books from the library.:001_smile:
  12. I agree. Make sure it is a very nice note. Killing them with kindness...:D
  13. Thank you to everyone for the suggestions! Keep them coming.:001_smile: Hmm...I suppose I'm looking for an overview of the basic beliefs in laymen's language.:001_smile:
  14. Does anyone know of some nice introductory books that covers the basics of Catholicsm? Preferably 300 pages or less. Oh, and I would also be interested in the same type of book for Eastern Orthodoxy and the Lutheran Church. Thank you!:001_smile: ETA: I know there were some in the thread, but I am looking for something a little shorter.
